    Just saw this video, and couldn’t wait to try it. But I twisted it a little bit. I took a two gallon bucket and put some soda ash in the bottom, added a crinkled yard cut of quilt cotton, then sprinkled two colors of dye and more soda ash. Then put another crinkled yard of cotton on top, two more dyes and more soda ash. Then a crinkled tee shirt, more dye and soda ash. Then poured hot water on the top. All three items came out great. Thanks for your video.

    With ash and dye mixing, I use dye to ash ratios as high as 3:1 with dark colors and 1:1 with light colors. Sticky dyes like turquoise no longer clump so badly! It’s not so much about saving dye as it is being able to not have it stick - blue dyes in particular are like stripper glitter and get everywhere. The soda ash helps I think. I’ll admit I don’t mix dye and ash real often, it’s mostly used by people who hot water dye and you can make very elaborate dye designs!
    In containers like this you do indeed get fun crinkles as the dye bonds and mixes with the heat from the water. If you have a big flat dish you can even do VERY tight spirals that have had some interesting effects since the dye has a hard time getting in. It’s fun to experiment and I do hot water stuff mostly in the Winter. It bonds very quickly, need not wait many hours but for sure experiment! So much fun!
    Waiting for other folks to try the stuff I’ve done with fluorescent silk screen ink that’s water based! I can’t find good true fluorescent neon dye so I’ve played with the water based ink. Setting it is painful though 😞

Im really curious about this inknyou speak of! Where can I see your work???

    Hi nice video👍just wanted to say about colouring in the micro oven, I have done it for 30 years, in a bowl with 1.5 liter water. Fix and salt. Colour. We have always used it for food/drink aswell, no problems at all as it is covered with water, no smell or powder anywhere. I used a Whirlpool here in Sweden. Happy tieday🎉

      @@TishTV it’s beautiful! You can try doing folds and stuffing them in too, in a flat dish a spiral can be stuffed in too 🤣 Lots of possibilities and I’ve honestly only scratched the surface! I may try this tonight for some shirts folks have asked for, it’s nice and fast! I get sort of vapor locked for ideas and love to see what others try! I’m usually way behind on the folks I follow but saw you had a video up and watched for ideas - imagine my surprise! 😍 Glad you liked this and it worked so well!

    How do you get your fingers so clean after they were covered in dye??? My nail beds especially really pick up the dye and hold it!

    • @TishTV
      @TishTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on how much dying Im doing. Red and turquoise really stain my skin, so when Im washing out, I wash those shirts first, then thru the day switch to other color combos. I wash a lot in batches, and my hands are in a lot of water. Also, if i use gloves in washout, my gloves fill with water and keep my hands wet and they dont stain as bad. I use a nail brush for my nail beds as well. It can take a couple days for my nail beds to clean up. Plus, doing dishes, working in the yard, my hands are always in a lot of water :)

    • @BLKMGK4
      @BLKMGK4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have Clorox bleach in a small spray bottle at the sink. When my hands are stained I spritz a little in my hands, rub them together, and then immediately rinse. Dye fades right off!

    Could it be done with room temperature water or ice dying? Thanks.

    • @TishTV
      @TishTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ice dying, most likely it would work, prolly have to apply ice several times to get full saturation. With the shirt stuffed in the container, it would be like ice dying in the muck. Room temp water should also work, but the results would not be as fast as using hot water. I would recommend only using one color because the shirt will be fully saturated and cause the colors to be muddy if mixed. Using cold water, and depending on the toom temp would determine how long you let it set. if the room is under 70 degrees F, I would let it set 72 hours or more. If the room is over 70, 24 hour. I hope this helps!!
