I loved this video! As a student teacher who looooves cute things, I dream about my future classroom! I pop into stores to window-shop sometimes and wish I could buy things that are on sale, BUT I need to pay rent first . 😅 As you mentioned, some things aren’t “necessary”, and as new teachers we should be easy on ourselves to buy things we need first.
      Have a great week!

Friendly reminder that smelly things are a no no, many students and teachers are asthmatic or have migraines triggered by scented items. Lost track of how many times that has happened to me over the years because of a co-worker. Teachers figure out the level of organization that works for you, your space, and your grade (high school organization definitely doesn't look the same as elementary organization). Always enjoy your videos, keep up the good work!

About the standards boards....If your school or district is WASC accredited, you're expected to have those posted in the classroom...at least when the WASC visit is scheduled, lol. Love your channel, Mr Cohen, btw. Teacher tool box, I got from Amazon and it wasn't expensive.

When she recently rewatched this same video. I had the same reactions that you did. Oh yeah that would be nice but it’s not necessary! I love Michelle’s content she is also most of why I started my TH-cam channel too.

So, literally this is a critique of someone’s TH-cam video from 6 years ago, why not look at something from this year? Get whatever storage you want first year teachers, it makes you happy keep it.
Final note: DonorsChoose is a luck based system, do not rely on it. I asked for a class set of computer mice, never got a response. Second time for books, filled in three weeks.

And teach in a private school. . .you can’t do a Donors Choose project. (And we make less than the public school teachers.)

Being a teacher in England, the thought of spending lots of money in a classroom is unusual. I've brought things like pencil pots and books here and there, but mostly schools give you the things you need.

If you must have the organization stuff, go on donors choose.
But remember that your organization habits may be different from people you see online. I had the days of the week bins, and it didn't work for me. I ended up getting those starlit bins donated and I use them for mailboxes
I recommend teachers spend money on books and bins to put the books in. You'll 100% use it. No matter what.

I know that for the schools i've been in, it is asked of teachers by admin to have some type of standards board up. For walk throughs and etc. The students aren't really using it..

I agree that the standard board and I can statements are most likely never read by the students to know what we're learning about. I think it is dumb because it's not even meant for the students, it's more so admin if they come into your room. I know I never read any standards on the board even in high school. I had a lot of my high school teachers had us copy the standards on the board unto our planner and I still never read them on the planner. It surely is a waste of time and we can do more effective and creative ways to help students determine what they're learning.

On the subject of posting the standards: I 100% ask the same thing!! Our daily objectives (We will/I will, I Will Be Able To, Know/Understand/Be Able To.... etc.) should reflect those standards in student friendly language, yes, but why should I post "SS.5.4.E: Identify causes of the Civil War, including sectionalism, states' rights, and slavery, and the effects of the Civil War, including Reconstruction and the 13th, 14th, and 15th, amendments to the U.S. Constitution." on my board as well? Granted, I think this is a directive from a state education agency for schools who are in the Improvement Required category when it comes to standardized testing and the grade the campus receives... I don't agree with it, but I grin and bare it.

One of the standards that used to be prekindergarten was order a pizza on the phone. I was questioning this standard. This standard was an old Ohio standard.

We had a discipline clip chart. I still remember crying my eyes out for being bad XD

Also like, it's so unfair, my teachers classrooms are so plain and ugly. The best classroom is French but that's because.. we are learning 3rd grade French so we are.... little kids in that class. And Lit, the decor is pictures of different things we did in that class, poetry posted, etc.

It sounds like you are bashing Michelle’s you tube video because you seem like a cheap person. There are a lot of teachers that do not spend one penny on their classrooms and their classrooms are blah and plain, not kid friendly. Grades K-4 students should work in classrooms that are decorated nicely where it makes learning fun, appealing to their eyes. Michelle was an outstanding elementary teacher. Your cheap mailboxes broke because you bought cheap mailboxes. Common sense should be telling you by now that “You Get What You Pay For”… It would have been more helpful if you would have been in your classroom when you made this video and shown a new teacher what you do instead of kind of knocking what Michelle did in her classroom that you think is wrong. It is 2022 why would you show a classroom tour of a classroom from six years ago. Yes, Class Clip Charts were a big thing around 2016 they are not today, why show that? Michelle was doing what most all teachers were doing in 2016. It amazes me how today teachers are practically begging to receive things from followers and they get complete strangers buying them things they should be buying themselves like you did with the Teacher Tool Box. I watch a lot of Teacher Videos and new teachers today are on point. I am amazed at all the beautifully decorated classrooms that they share with You Tube viewers. All the teachers that are on TikTok/TH-cam today spend their hard earned money on their classrooms and it shows. I predict future educators will be spending their money as well. Then there are those that will not which is fine, that is what makes the world go round. Best of luck to you for the rest of the school year. I retired from teaching in 2019 after 41 years. I changed with the times during my educational career. I also spent my money on things for the classroom that helped my students. I collected a lot of teacher stuff over my 41 year career and a lot of my teacher family who were teachers and my colleagues were given these things that I purchased for my classrooms. Best of luck to you for the reminder of this school year.
