There’s a damn good reason so many horror stories over the centuries have taken place in the woods.

Growing up in Alaska, you spend a lot of time in the woods. Whoever thinks they aren't scary is insane. There is a number of logical reasons to fear the woods and then there's an infinite amount of psychological reasons to be freaked out.

Greetings from the arctic parts of Scandinavia! The climate her in Sàpmi/Norrland is quite identical to Alaska, flora+fauna and all, except we don't get Orcas preying on Moose lmao.
But fully agreed, there is a very primal fear of being far out in the woods (fjällen in my case), far away from civilization and very much in wild animal territory that people who live in bigger cities with smaller forests don't get.
The greatest part of this story is how it is just *barely* supernatural, but nothing that couldn't be explained away rationally. A terrifying situation that I absolutely could imagine myself ending up in, should my mind wander too much.

His story The Windigo is also very atmospheric and nature based.

Planning on writing a story, probably a short novel, about treasure hunting in the woods and mountains of a colombian village called Jardín. Want to read this, in the Mountains of Madness and Annihilation for inspiration. There are myths down here that during the Holy week, or easter week, not sure how its called, you see small lights that lead you to treasure. I hope it's scary, and maybe, if it gets translated, as I write in spanish, you read it someday. Great vid, Mike

Also I don't know about you guys but this story really caused my imagination to run wild. It made it pretty terrifying for me. You almost start to feel as paranoid as our characters.

If you like these old horror stories, Arthur Machen's The White People or the Great God Pan, are held in the same type of regard as this one. Worth a read, for next Halloween.
