I only have base marvel, seraph, vampire, ninja, treant, samurai, and gunslinger. And I just started playing the other day, when I saw your video about it! It was perfect timing for me and my partner looking for a 2p game. My initial thoughts are that the ninja, and scarlett witch are incredibly string and are doing damage pretty much every single turn along with good defense. The seraph and treant both have alot of potential to absolutely dominate however they rely a bit to heavily on good dice luck and upgrades opposed to the other characters. Now this is only my experience after about 2 plays with each character, however its more of an initial impression than an analysis since I definitely need a bit more experience with all of them. I definitely plan on picking some up, potentially santa v krampus if I can find a good price online. Thanks for these videos man, I always appreciate the effort and research put into them, and it's always enjoyable whether it's a review, analysis, or crowdfund countdown. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving 🤙
From many years of dice throne, I think black widow could be a contender for best character. I've had games where I missed 2 complete turns and still won.
Widow is kinda RIDICULOUSLY broken. The upgrade gimmick is cool but they made it just too dang strong. Her board is too easy to roll with how strong her resource play is, her damage is too good, and her status effects are too effective. If she was a little worse at one of these things, she would be much better. But as she stands DEFINITELY the strongest marvel character, maybe the best in the game (in competition with shadow thief and cursed pirate imo)
I feel like there's a an argument for every character which is why I love this game. I one won with Thor with 48 health cuz I kept healing with one of his abilities
I’ve only played Season 1 & 2 but here’s my ranking! (Minus Paladin and Pyromancer who I haven’t played yet at the time of making this list.) 1.) Artificer 2.) Cursed Pirate 3.) Treant 4.) Monk 5.) Gungslinger 6.) Tactician 7.) Barbarian 8.) Ninja 9.) Shadow Thief 10.) Vampire Lord 11.) Seraph 12.) Samurai 13.) Moon Elf 14.) Nyra
Thanks for the video! We are loving Marvel Dice Throne. One thing that may bring up Doctor Strange in your estimation is that Crimson Bands applies to your opponents next roll phase. "Their next Roll Phase" would only apply to their turn. Your opponents defensive roll is actually a part of your roll phase. There is a BGG thread on the topic if you search for Crimson Bands.
Is a summary of his list available? I don't always want to watch a 25min vid :( Appreciate it anyway though! Dice Throne and board games and this channel are lit
My top 5 of the heroes you mentioned (no particular order): Paladin, Monk, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Pyromancer My top 5 including heroes not mentioned (no particular order): Paladin, Monk, Artificer, Tactician, Vampire Lord
Fun video, fun game. Don't have the marvel set, but bought everything else, all at once. (Forgive me, I was young, stupid, and pre Chris George). Anyways, my top 5 season 2 characters are . . . Cursed Pirate: Double sided board! Ninja: Character & dice look the coolest. Artificer: Higher complexity + Cute Bots Vampire Lord: Who doesn't like stealing hp? Tactician: My favorite, set up big turns w dice manipulation.
I don't have a lot of experience with DT yet, we've only played five characters so far. So far, my list would be something like: 5. Captain Marvel 4. Black Panther 3. Barbarian 2. Moon Elf 1. Black Widow EDIT after listening to your first rankings: What's funny is that we like opposite things, I guess!
The only time I played Dice Throne I was the paladin and I was playing against my dad who was the monk. I had to do like 500 damage to him to finally defeat him. The paladin was a lot of fun but the monk looked super cool too!
That's a fun matchup especially with the monk being able to take away CP but the paladin just drowning in it anyway it barely makes sense to pursue that path haha
You're actually making me look at Roxley's shopping page...I don't need it! I have a friend that has S1 Rerolled, S2 and Marvel, and another with S1 Rerolled, S2 and Adventure...But I want it! We play the game a lot, to the point where we played for 14 hours in one day. I mean, the whole set, with sleeves (they are pretty cool, friend #1 has them) and promos (at this point, why not), would be roughly 750 CAD plus taxes. Eugh. If I'd have to give a quick top 3, it would be Shadow Thief, Artificer and Scarlet Witch.
@Room and Board: Crimson Bands is actually stronger than you think because it's on "Their" next roll phase. The defensive roll during your turn isn't considered their next roll phase in this case. Would you update Dr. Strange's ranking because of this?
Replied to this above (someone just liked the comment so I saw that I had missed this, sorry!) Probably dr. Strange would jump over Barbarian but still I think I like paladin more
I completely agree with you on Wanda in the mcu. They ruined her. They also messed up with Dr strange 2. It could have been so much better than a vehicle to introduce America Chavez. Also can't stand Captain Marvel. They ruined her in the comics and I guarantee you that it was a marvel mandate to include her in dice throne. They want her to be a face of marvel like wonder woman is for dc. She's not. She doesn't stick and her movie was awful.
I completely agree. I almost didn't get any dice throne. But then they came out with the Thor, Loki, witch, morales set so I was happy to be able to get some of my favorite characters without the awful captain marvel. I have no feelings towards black panther either so I was glad it was in one set I could just avoid. I really want black widow but I keep hearing she's not very fun so I will just stick with my set of 4 and wait for them to come out with Xmen. (unless they force agenda into that IP as well)
I only have the Marvel set, and don’t think I’ve played enough to have a clear ranking. But if I had to pick: 1 : Scarlet Witch 2: Loki 3: Dr Strange 4: Black Widow 5: Thor 6: Spider-Man 7: Black Panther 8: Captain Marvel
I didn't, I felt the shipping was too much compared to just getting it down the line. Would have cost me like 50-60 bucks when I know it'll likely be sold for 20-30
Here are mine but I don't own the Marvel sets as I have no interest in them. 1. Pyromancer 2. Monk 3. Vampire Lord 4. Gunslinger 5. Paladin 6. Samurai 7. Cursed Pirate 8. Gunslinger 9 Barbarian 10. Shadow Thief
Paladin I did not like when I played it, the dice combos seemed like too many symbols to match with little benefit. I only played him once, but it wasn’t a good fit for me I think.
As a fellow cat lover, I like the Huntress a lot (she's got a sabertooth tiger companion that can take damage for her, but it can makes games go long) , but that doesn't mean you need to get her. Also, Paladin should be higher and defensive Monk is annoying to play against. :)
@@RoomandBoardReviews Defense!? What's that!? But I hear ya, I loved The Others, begging my friends to play it... until 1 of them wanted to be the "1" in "1 vs. many", and I realized, "Oh, this game blows!" (Kind of)
First, you’re just making more work for yourself by doing this before you got season 2. You know you’re just going to do it again 😂 The end of Wandavision was infuriating. “It was Agatha all along!” No… no Wanda still did terrible things on her own… I often play with 3 people and some characters are worse at 3 players… specifically Black Panther can be formidable in a 2 person fight but doesn’t feel like a threat in a 3 player game. Loki and Thor play SO good! The only thing I’d tweak is I’d put doctor strange a little higher just because his card draw is so unmatched
I wanted to love marvel dice throne but I feel they flopped on a few of the characters. Captain Marvel should of been a different marvel character. She's the least chosen one of the bunch and has a boring arsenal. Spider Man, Black Panther and Thor should of had more options or had a more complex arsenal because as popular as they are, they boring to play.
I think thats pretty thematic. Captain marvel always has terrible sales in comics and is always getting cancelled. Shes pretty notorious in the MCU as well so its fitting no one wants to play her. Miles Morales is great. He's easier to play which means my kids are always fighting over who gets to play him and it got them interested in the wonderful spiderverse movie.
Can't help but notice how low you ranked all of the female characters. _Misogyny much, Chris?_ Just kidding, unless the DT designers are deliberately making female characters worse, which I doubt. ANYway, I only just picked up the Marvel base set (cheap!) the other day; sounds like pound-for-pound that's the best gateway into the system. I'm also supposed to be getting Santa vs. Krampus at some point... We'll see if I go beyond that at any point.
I think the base Marvel is a really great entry point. Plus having those extra 2 getting you to six, I likely wouldn't have picked up the Marvel set because I had 6 with season one and feel like that's a great number to feel like you have different combinations without needing to get more. Definitely addicting though! And I guess you're right, you're not the only person to mention it, although I don't see that other comment - I guess my unequivocal love for the patriarchy is showing! To be honest, I have never associated season 1 characters with gender at all, because they're just archetypes, so I don't take much stock in the art. I always feel like I'm the character anyway, regardless of who they are. When i'm playing Dice Throne, it's just me!
Man, your production quality and unforced, honest humor are very fun to watch and you will def make it in what you do! Keep on going
I love your "Mya-mya" (Mjolnir) movie reference! 🤣

Also to add...black widows agility token is kind of OP. Her leaflet says if you have 2 and succeed you will avoid 100% damage.

Huh, I only have rerolled so I didn't know the boards were different before that. Fun vid! There's a lot of fun in that season twooooooo....
Reasoning was amazing, season 2 please!
I would have liked to hear your opinions of the Season 2 characters.
Agreed! And Santa vs Krampus as well!!
haha, I'll have to convince OP or Roxley to send them my way ;)
Barbarian is such braindead fun. I usually play high complexity characters but I love my dumb little barbarian boy.
Thank you much. I needed to know. Now i think i do :)
Crimson bands is removed after your opponent’s ORP. Making it to where they cannot play cards during their ORP instead.
