We locals are familiar with this . The side and back of the house are easily seen because a common area runs along the back and a well traveled path overlooking the ocean . Those gates are stunning in person.
The property mimics European palaces that were essentially manor houses on large farming acreages, designed to create an impression on visitors and the entire region. Without the need for farming or to accommodate distinguished guests making arduous journeys one wonders how enjoyable this home really was for its owners.
Gorgeous mansion! But with this music I could not help but picture myself younger in petticoats and dancing or promenading up and down the room. Was thinking how " That would never have gone well there" lol Gloria Vanderbilt's first marriage was to a cousin of mine, but it was before my birth. Saw pictures and will say, it was a lovely wedding. She was a very lovely bride and my cousin was cute, if I must say so myself. Wish it has lasted and they could have done better, but that is all I have to say on that. Although she was brought up by her aunt and not much closeness with the rest of family as it should have been, still they certainly were family. She was married a few times and the last one was to Cooper. They have lovely homes, and even camps that are marvelous. My son has done carpentry work for one. Love the exquisite chandeliers!
All that space and for one family! Of course there were staff but still it’s excessive. This whole setup made me feel lonely. Give me my small and cozy home any day.
You should see the Vanderbilt mansion in Asheville NC. It's called 'The Biltmore House.' This was just a summer place on the beach and truth be told, the family probably didn't stay at any place long.

No it's not anymore they sold it to the state years ago because taxes and upkeep was ridiculous. That's how the admissions and winery and restaurants and the hotel pay for all the repairs and maintenance on the property and home itself

We live an hour and 15 minutes from Asheville we have annual passes to Biltmore every year and the winery is fabulous

Essentially this is a large, private resort hotel. It was very grand and nice but had a musty salt air smell being right by the sea.
So... who has to dust all of that? Seems a perfect place for a Swiffer product placement.
