  • Here are the three Richard Hudnut cosmetics commercials from an NBC Milton Berle TV Special aired on October 11, 1959, featuring a glamorous 37-year-old Betty White. (The color video is dubbed from the 2" master tape that still exists and still plays back--thanks to our friends at Research Video in North Hollywood, California.)

      Her voice between then to the 1990s didn’t change much. It’s gotten more deep since the 2000s tho. Her voice from Golden Girls (1985-1992) compared from her voice in Hot In Cleveland (2010-2015) does sound different.

      @wellesradio 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Her voice was completely different throughout her early series and changed into what we recognize now going into the 1960’s. If you listen to her voice into her mid-thirties she didn’t sound like the Betty White we know at all. It changed and started to develop that familiar quiver when she was nearing forty.

      @@breakingames7772 although I do believe they didn't mean that, instead it was in reference to the quality of the video. Which isn't restored, simply kept nicely organized and not wrinkled up in this recording. But in terms of quality, 1959 doesn't strike me as a insane moment to see good film, I've seen cinecolor and Agfacolor films in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Florida all in the time of, oh yes and 1 in Washington, all from the time of 1927 to 1934. Yes that's right, all true color, not the fake nonsense. It amazes me that we didn't try to incorporate color earlier than the 50's, it must have been hard to have color shows and many black and white movies-shows-commerials-and cartoons all in usually black and white, then to adjust with some installments using color. Of course you would have to change some of the tubing, and add an a incorporation piece of you wanted a singular addition, and or wait for your Television operator to adjust a color setting to your Television which really was no trouble..but in total, I do wish there could have been another way to do it. The first color television set was 1935, very small octagonal shaped peak-aboo screen border, and had a certain filter over it that properly disturbed color across the cartoons and or shows (usually many shows in France and Germany were airing) and of course Disney was a big hit for the families that could afford the television. My grandmother called it the status symbol of ignoring your children, and always bickered with me about how they looked possessed, in a trance by it...she was very political in terms of changing events such as skyscrapers and books. Even ignored my grandfather when he got his first and second automobile...back in 1901 and 1904. Wrote a whole article in the 90's about how the pointless rise of skyscrapers height from 20 to 30 to 40 to 50 was ridiculous and nonsensical. She was regal, and magnificent. My mother always wore her ruby earrings she purchased in 1873 upon her arrival to Manhattan. Like mother like daughter.

      These were originally filmed on 2 inch video tape, which was quite new at the time being created in 1951, instead of regular film. That’s why it looks like it was filmed in the 80s instead of the 50s

    This had to be taped at NBC's Color City in Burbank. Betty White was based in LA. She's been in TV so long, she was on Channel 13 in LA back when it was still KLAC-TV.

    There's a clip on TH-cam called Betty White: Radio Star, and it's of her acting on a radio show at age 9 in 1930. Gosh, I think my grandparents were toddlers in 1930! Anyway, the timbre of her voice has barely changed in 85 years; she was completely recognizable.

    Her voice between then to the 1990s didn’t change much. It’s gotten more deep since the 2000s tho. Her voice from Golden Girls (1985-1992) compared from her voice in Hot In Cleveland (2010-2015) does sound different.

    Man - dazzling color! The clarity and detail is great! Too bad they did not at least record in color, as it helps those days to not not look so primitive as with black and white material. There were two people who seem as if they would never die - Little Richard and Betty White!

      This was recorded in color as well as the Milton Berle special it aired with, but color videotape was quite rare as it had first been created the year before.....Filmed color shows like Bonanza were starting to trickle in also but wasn't widespread until 1966.
