    Chris the processor is a great tool for the right size wood. I think for what you do the Axis is a better splitter. You have complete control of the size and there is little to no wasted wood. Yes you will need to buck up your logs, but I think it’s a better choice.

    Morning. Chris
    I’d suggest the extra debris may be due to the dryness of wood, fresh may result differently.
    The re-splits I’d say was due to thin logs and some ugly pieces.
    I was going to ask do you still need to remove trees from that property you where at before ( not the last tree removal) prior, you had to clean it up cut trees out.
    I know Tony does it next door.
    That axe and cleaver video would be nice to share on the “Tony Cool Tools” channel😀🇦🇺

    Not sure if you done this before, I see you just make huge piles and sell by trailer load etc etc,
    A guy like me who is small time has 3 one cord wood sheds, and 2 sheds at 1.25 cords ea. And then I have 10 racks out in the yard at 1/4 cord size with a wire tie at the 4 ft mark.
    Always split and overfill them in the winter to early spring and notice by August that the piles shrink quite a bit, (especially oak). Which ya know I make extra wood to refill em up to the top level again.
    What I'm getting at is maybe a guy like you that has many different species could make a video with the different species comparison for the pile shrinkage, percentage and all that. Have like a face cord of each split green, 4x8, all lined up and then after seasoning and settling measure and compare.
    Just an idea. Would be a cool experiment. Compare oak to pine to maple to cherry to ash.
    Could be some wood science class lol

    The 6-way wedge on my processor still makes a lot of debris. Trying to get the wedge positioned just right for each log takes extra time and still you get debris. Better than doing it by hand though and I've found a use for my debris. It seems like most of the logs I get are full of knots. Knots are the bane of my life. Always getting jammed on the wedge and they will disintegrate into a huge mess of debris.

  • @waynetharp
    @waynetharp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Please don't throw in towel on 12 way just yet. I noticed immediately when you started stacking just how much nicer the sizes were,when stacked on previously split wood. I would play with the height setting on processor some more and different species may do better also. I have also noticed that just 1 piece gets jammed or whopper jawed in the wedge and it really starts to making debris. The more ways a wedge is the better chance of this happening. I know you are trying to hurry when processing but maybe taking the time to unjamb as needed would help alot with debris? Have a great weekend and thanks for all 800 videos!👍

    Hello Chris, when it comes to a wedge my go to is the basic 4-way understanding that works with a splitter as you can re-split till the desired piece is acquired. And not so for a processor. Not sure there is a solution for debris when it comes to fast processing equipment. 👌🏻🔥🇨🇦

  • @hondacrm306
    @hondacrm306 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Am sure you will figure it out Chris but as a lot of people have commented, there seems to be quite a bit more waste with the 12 way and also I think the processor doesn’t really handle splitting the small sticks very well as the bed design doesn’t help the stick to keep centred on the wedge. Stacking from the trailer is a big win. Great work as usual. When are the other cut piles scheduled to get stacked?

  • @pauldixon3089
    @pauldixon3089 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good morning Chris.
    Looking at all the debris makes me think there must be a market for it. There looks like some decent stuff still in there that's not worth your while and time sorting it out.
    Would it burn in an outdoor wood boiler, after all it's wood chips, not much different to biomass we use in the UK.
    80 dollars a trailer load (collected not delivered of course)
    You'd then be making a few bucks on what is essentially a waste product.
    Sure in these cash strapped times, someone's going to be looking for a budget fuel source to heat their home through the winter.
    Keep safe, keep cutting. Paul

    The 12 way likes consistent size wood like 12-16 inches. When you have small wood you will have a lot of debris. There’s a reason Multitek has a patent on 16 way wedge. I just got my new 2040 electric and you get a little more debris but zero resplits

    Awesome videos you produce Chris. Seeing your video on the 12 way wedge I seen immediately your issue with the increased debris. There were moments showing a log going through the splitter that was was just the right size that the middle of the wedge was taking 1/2 to 1 inch off the top of the logs. That would amount to alot of extra debris. Possibly try lifting the wedge up a few inches for the medium logs, and back down for the largest

    Are you sure you had a trailer without debris when you started? I thought in the previous video of stacking (few video's ago) you left the debris in and parked the trailer under the processor, so it would explain twice the debris. No doubt you have already used the 12 way again, was the amount of debris just as big as this load? At around 3:50 it also looks like there is already a pile of debris while there's little wood gone from the trailer

    • @InTheWoodyard

    So the giant loaded question is... Does the processor do enough to justify itself, by itself? Without piling the wood with a huge conveyor it looks like it's a save some time to loose a little product, compared to your usual setup.

    I think it's hard to have the perfect wedge set up From what I have seen and have learned from running a timberwolf TW6 splitter with a 6, 4, or a single wedge. I've never own or ran a processor so I'm just going off my opinion which means nothing I think it's just too many variables with the wood on size, how many knots are in it to pick a perfect wedge.

    • @InTheWoodyard

    Hi. I just wanted to say that I'm fairly surprised at the size of the pieces and that your customers want or will accept. Watching you resplit the "bigger ones" into basically kindling almost seems counterproductive. Some of it needed to be split, but overall the pieces look small to me, you're splitting nice pieces twice and three times. The more you split, the more volume there, is, but people don't want to buy air in New England and are fairly aware of the tiny split wood deliveries.
    Your stacking method with the trailer is a great idea for sure. But again, all those tiny pieces of wood need to be stacked and handled. It's all a lot of work. Nice job though and I guess you know your customers. Maybe the customers don't know any better, because everybody does it that way? Not sure.

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My customers are NOT buying wood for heating in a boiler or big wood stove, most people burn wood in a fireplace or high efficiency wood stove and they do not fit big wood plus they like flames to watch while drinking beer. They are a different customer NOT heating people.

    • @jrmorrissey207

      @@InTheWoodyard Understood, however the same applies. There's a difference between match stick firewood and giant unwieldy 1/2 split logs. Somewhere in the middle is where you want to be. Tiny pieces requires more fire maintenance as well. JMO. Have a great day!

    Hi Chris.
    That is very disappointing. How did so many about 30% of the smaller ones get through without being touched.?
    Have You compared the performance of the Eastonmade with the same sized Japa. There is a market for yours if You decided to swap to one of those if they make more wood and less rubbish.
    I would be VERY disappointed with that result. Perhaps look at the video and see where the problem lies.
    Best Wishes.
    David in Oz.
    Edit. I just saw the end of this vid, Chris. isn`t there a speed control on the conveyor. bump the speed and it may land the wood in the front of the trailer, otherwise raise the end of the conveyor and get under further.

    Hey Chris Another AWESOME video! When I was watching you split with the 12 way the other day I didn't leave a comment! So today my comment is more for that day. I am surprised at how much wood you had to re-split. I thought the 12 way was splitting alot of smaller stuff, which you found out today with all the debris in the trailer. My main comment is about the processor! It seems o me that your chair is too low, you are always craning your neck to see into the wedge area & your legs don't look comfortable! Can the control table be raised up so that you can raise your seat up more?? Maybe a redesign by Eastonmade is possible? Again Chris keep up with the great work ethic and awesome videos! GNI
