    Great video , can you confirm whether you increase the tension number, or reduce it to tighten the tension of the top thread and of course the reverse for loosening the tension. Thankyou

      On a Janome machine, the higher the top tension number is, the higher the tension and vice versa. So, if you increase the tension setting to 5 from 4, for example, this makes the top tension higher which will pull up on the bobbin thread more. Hope this explains how it works.

    Thanks, Kim. I have the Janome 9450 which I love. Can you confirm that the tension control on the machine is for the top thread. So if the top thread is too tight, I decrease the tension and if the top thread is too loose, I increase the tension. Thank you.

      Yes, and when you adjust the tension, you are adjusting the top tension.

    How do you adjust the tension in a 9450??? What are the steps

    How do I tighten the tension in a drop in bobbin (Janome) ? I know how to tighten with a case (Bernina).

    • @Chatterboxquilts
      @Chatterboxquilts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't usually need to do this with Janome bobbin cases as they have different ones for different purposes. The blue dot bobbin works very well without adjustment for free motion quilting. The yellow dot is a tighter tension for machine embroidery.

    Good info but didn’t help my problem. I can tell my top tension is too loose because it’s leaving a trail of loops on the bottom but the bobbin tension is too much. But the top tension is maxed out like the spring isn’t working. So I improvised with an extra spring but still not working all the time. Help me please thank you!

      Sounds like it might be time to take your machine in to have a technician look at it. There might be an adjustment that needs to be made or a part that is missing or is damaged.

      @@Chatterboxquilts I know but it’s so far away and expensive. I took the top tension knob off and I think I found the problem. The plastic circle piece inside the knob has lost its grip. Reminds me of me when I get mad. Lol
