Such incidents are on a rise again now and I'm beginning to wonder if a caste census would actually reveal the exact demographic breakdown of dwindling population of Brahmins in our society today. Not that such a ridiculous exercise would really serve any purpose.

In my own experience in the mid seventies, when I was travelling in a bus in Chennai, an elderly gentleman, a brahmin was bullied by a group of people, pulling his tuft, janeu and his panchkachham also. Nobody including the conductor intervened. I got up and stood beside him. Seeing a lady beside him, the trouble makers stopped their act. I could see helplessness in his eyes. I didn't know the Tamil language then, to protest.
Supreme Court now takes such cases very seriously.
Such act must be stopped.

Exactly the anchor said..in Bangladesh the same thing is happening for conversion. In tamilnadu the lowest no.population among hindus were targeted the rest of the hindus were not targeted directly because of vote bank. For the past 60 years., the politicians of tamilnadu not even mention the other caste hindu names in public whereas they scholded the brahmin community in all bad words and they divided the whole hindu community like British teaching all of crooked sense, bad words, critic commands, cutting sacred threads etc . Overall Tamilnadu is equivalent to Pakistan or Bangladesh. The centre must save our land from the dirty politicians.
Any time you find the focus in attack is aimed at Brahmins, I think the perpetrators want to distract the state to mask some other scandal they have done.
What is even more shameful is that the people on TN have the so called divisions even in the so said "Lower Cast" and fight within these divisions among divisions. And the most fucked thing is, they end up blaming the brahmins for these fights. To top it all, brahmins don't even make up 5% of the population, how the hell does this make us the majority? Granted the there are people of different economic strata and I am fully for their uplifting and up-skilling. It is enough of trauma and un-necessary belittling that we have faced. I, personally have faced issues when it comes to my professional and college life where I have been mocked for being a brahmin and haven the surname 'Iyer". Not only Brahmins in other castes also there is the system of wearing JANEU like Skhatriyas,Vysyas,padmashalis,Carpenters,Goldsmiths,Sculptors etc.

Janeu is a dress vastram of a person. it is worn by many castes and NO one has the right to cut others' janeu. it is violation of person. the government - in this case the central govt can intervene and set things in order of not interferring oin another persons private space and privacy.
The perceived threat is not on Brahmins per se. The threat stems from the fact this miniscule 4% is responsible for keeping up the Hindu rituals and practices alive. It's the perseverance of this miniscule minority that this faith is still alive.

This Janua is also worn by Kshtriya and Vaishya. Formerly all had the Sacred thread on their bodies including women, Shoodra. It may be that in time as women and Shoodra were not wearing janua "as obstruction in work" ? A Vaishya toils in field, Kshatriya is in ever Actions can wear it? Some obscure custom may have prevented the last two.
