Just found out that Dawn and Wizzard, prevented Hell Raiser from getting to number one, here in the UK. My eldest bro was a Sweet fan, my twin brother was Slade and I was Wizzard. My sister was Barry Blue and my youngest brother loved GG. We did though listen to a lot of Sweet - Sweet Fanny Adams and their previous release, which was Sweets Biggest Hits. We would have Sweet on in the car, when we went fishing and to the seaside. Really do respect The Sweet.
Us 70’s hip kids never took the Sweet seriously, we saw them as a manufactured Chinn and Chapman band. Over the years I've come to realise that they were quite simply brilliant
Even as a 10 yr old, i preferred the b sides. Im 57 now & still love em. Many thanks Andy scott for many yrs of entertainment. Especially the Musik laden live bits.... there bloody awesome.
I still have the 45. That song is up at the top of my all-time fav 45s from the time. I'ts still a kick ass-blood-pumping ballsy rocker🤩👌. Thanks for keeping the "Sweet" flag flying Andy.
Can't imagine a song like that getting into the pop charts today, somehow! Sadly we have taken a HUGE step backwards and the halcyon days of the 1970s now seem like a truly different age.
Got this single when I was 10, blew my mind then, with Burnin' on the B side, my 2 favourite songs from my favourite glam rock band back then. Got great memories of tearing around on the bumper cars with Hell Raiser blasting out on the PA. Sweet started my love with heavy rock, which still exists today, 47 years later. These 2 songs still get my blood pumping after all this time. Thanks for all the great music and the memories Andy, glad to see you're still cutting it all these years later. Keep safe and keep rockin' 🤟🤟
@@michaelehlert9 oh I see the Midwest. I now get it. I thought you must have been living in Siberia. Lol Check out some of the heavier stuff you might enjoy it if you haven't 😉. Take care🤘
WOW!!!!!! I can't believe just how good this band actually were. I never realized this at the time, although I really liked them but I was barely 10 yrs old. It's so great that this sound as good as it does today when I can appreciate some of the musicianship. Truly wonderful stuff - I would love to hear more. Thanks for this Andy.
This is great rock music and excellent played. Very good rock bands. Relaxing to listen to. Thank you very much.👍👍👍👍👍⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷❤❤❤❤❤🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷❤❤❤❤❤🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Loving these videos. I would say that Hell Raiser, was bang in the middle of the Glam era - a brilliant time in music. I was eight years of age, when Hell Raiser came out.
Hi Andy, Love SWEET! Short story. My grandmother collected stuff that she found walking the park of Long Beach CA. Great Depression era woman. She brought home anything. Playboy mage etc. One day she brought home a 8 track tape of Desolation Boulevard. I immediately popped it into the Buick player and proceeded to burn that tape up. Loved it and still do! Thanks for these new live videos and the song of the month with your sharing . Love, Chris PS. Lost Angels is one of my faves.
I love the breakdown of these songs, really shows how hard they worked to translate from studio to live shows! Glad Ozzy gave them a shout out, since this really is a hard rock song. I notice no Sweet songs sound the same, all uniquely have a different flow.
My daughter said the same thing, about all their songs sound different. Very versatile band! Nice video with Andy explaining how it's done to us non-musicians.
Great video! Love to hear about these things! Would also love to hear about how the band wrote the flip-side - outstanding really heavy stuff like Man From Mecca, Burning and Need A Lot Of Livin'!
EXCELLENT Andy !!!!! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your huge musical skills and knowledge with us all, as well as all the fascinating exeriences surrounding the development and making of the single.
*Below are all The Sweet's singles that I bought and in their chronological order from 1973 to 1978.* Blockbuster! Hell Raiser The Ballrom Blitz Teenage Rampage The Sixteens Turn It Down Fox On The Run Action The Lies In Your Eyes Lost Angels Fever Of Love Stairway To The Stars Love Is Like Oxygen
Fantastic. I wish to have lived in the 70's! I am 17 years old but I imagine as were the great shows. (and Ozzy Osbourne have a excellent musical taste :-) )
I learnt how to play the song of one of your old film clips... about 10 years ago I bought your documentary about the sweet.. when I was a kid I used to dream about to.. be able to play guitar.. but eventually I taught myself. using tablature... picked it up quite well... then I learnt quite a few of your songs... and then I learn how to play Hellraiser... absolutely love play that song on guitar... it's got quite a heavy metal.. feel to it... one of the top songs.. of hard rock metal... would have inspire lot of... it inspired me.... absolutely love your music... had a massive crush on Brian when I was a kid... he was a good looking guy.... who are legend Andy in my eyes
The best "Song Of The Month" yet, Andy! Loved watching this. What I wouldn't give to get my hands on those studio multitracks to play around with at home! I'm so grateful to you for creating this channel and putting the effort in to creating these song analysis clips. Keep them coming, please! And I hope you get into the album tracks, B-sides and ultra-heavy stuff eventually. Any chance of a book/DVD coming out of these in the near future?
I recently heard the full Mike Chapman demo to this and it`s absolutely hilarious!! No wonder Andy was suspecting the influence of "Brandy involved". :D
Excellent, I always thought Hell Raiser was the best single by The Sweet, And it's great to hear about the way it's put together. Keep spreading The Sweet message.
I love very much this song , hard rock very intense; I remember this song is the beginning of the album "live in england" came out only in Italy in 1974 (but you know as the live part of the album strung up) I put in the post a pic of the album. Hello wherever you are.
Andy- Who thought up y'all's costumes? 💖 em!! I 💖 all y'all's songs/videos!! Sweet still rox here in the U.S.A. thu!!! We still 💖 you guys too!!! 👍😁😎😍🎸🐯😘💖
once again, great to watch. "Hell Raiser" is such a powerful recording, after "Ballroom Blitz" my second favourite SWEET-single. Andy, we are really looking for an OFFICIAL DVD-release from one of the greatest bands in Rock-history. Anyway, thanks for the stuff...
My fave Sweet song, thank you Andy. Would be good to see how you play this live as it sounds very much like the record. Also feel sad that Bri is not here whereas Ozzy is, I suppose he had more help.
Great infos Andy, thx for taking the time to have alittle history capsule, I love flashbacks, cause the music scene nowadays is not really doing anything for me
One of my absolute favorite Sweet tunes! But then I always liked their heavier stuff.
Mick Tucker so powerful yet graceful on the drums there. Heavenly!
One of the best ever ! 😃

One of the Best Sweet songs ever! But there are so many!!!
Love this song and performance
The Sweet are one of the best bands ever on this planet!!
can't agree more!
We saw them in Glasgow last week and they put on a great show. Excellent musicians and vocals. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hearing the backstories to all these songs just makes me appreciate Sweet even more.
I see The Sweet 1976 in the Grugahalle Germany/Essen. It's long time ago I was so young😉es war fantastisch👍👍🎤🎸🎵🎼🎶💕The Sweet Fan forever bis heute!
That's incredible ! When they came to Los Angeles they played the Santa Monica civic in 1974...I was too young to go...😐

I absolutely loved Hell Raiser back in the day, and still DO all these years later! Brilliant.
One of my favorite Sweet tunes! But then I always did like your heavier, more rockin material.
Even as a 10 yr old, i preferred the b sides. Im 57 now & still love em. Many thanks Andy scott for many yrs of entertainment. Especially the Musik laden live bits.... there bloody awesome.
This is gold!
Looking at the live footage, the drumming is amazing. All four were fantastic rock musicians. Years ahead of their time.
Hell Raiser !!! What a song. I love it:):):)

This was the first single that I ever bought and ... I still have it in my collection !
This song has one of the coolest intros in rock music.
Brilliant 👍
I love it ♥️

I love Andy's insights he is so giving. As a 60 year old fan I find it rewarding and interesting.

Bientôt 50 ans, et toujours d'actualité!
I’m hearing this for the first time and I’m 55. I’m a big early 80s heavy metal fan..this is really great.
Where have you been. Under a rock 🪨💤💤💤
@@leosword7142 we didn’t get much of Sweet in the Midwest, their first pop hits didn’t bode well for rock and roll fans

Das ist die beste Gruppe die es gibt.
The more I listen to their songs, the more I realize how much they influence Motley Crüe, Great White, Poison and other 80s bands.
As well as Judas priest
And they're still better than all of them...and I was a teenager during the 80's.
Great song, great band, great guitar player, and really great hair ! ✌

Wow this is very interesting
I absolutely love this tune! You can hear each individual musician clearly!
“Realistically you can’t do them all in one hit…Even though I do live somehow” spoken like a true guitar genius🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Fascinating interview & demo, Andy!!! Please keep doing more Sweet songs. By the way, Brian was a great screamer... right up there with Jim Morrison!
Brilliant
