It's funny how New Balance has entered the world of "Sneaker head". In DC, ever since the early 80's, New Balance was always a staple shoe. It was a sign of money. Before there was a sneaker culture, we were setting trends.
The thing that I love about New Balance is that most of their retros can still be used as performance shoes. Nike really puts emphasis on making their retros “lifestyle” shoes which takes away from the shape and comfort.

Crazy how different the sneaker cultures were back then. In the DMV(DC,MD,VA) area people have been wearing these since the beginning. You weren’t cool if you didn’t have New Balances lol. Everyone just recently got into these.
Look up the history of NB and DC drug culture. It goes way back into the 80s. I have numerous pairs growing up. I've even had 5 pairs of 992s throughout high school. New balance is the shoe of DC. They even did a signature shoe for DC with the DC flag
@@jordanporter5833 Those DC 992s are SOOOO sweet! As a Washingtonian myself, you definitely at least owned a pair or 2 of NBs if you grew up in the '80s and '90s here. Even if you only had the grey pair of the 996s (which was the popular model during my HS years), you were set. LOL
Curiosity got the better of me about 2 years ago and I got a pair of NB 990 v5. First thing that blew me away was the quality of the materials. Once I put them on feet the game was changed forever. I have never experienced comfort like that and the 990 has become my all time favorite sneaker after diving into the history and craftsmanship behind it. As someone who’s spent their whole life in Nikes and Jordans I immediately saw the appeal of the NB 99x line after getting a pair. I highly recommend anyone here try them if you value quality!
The 990, 992, and my favorites, 991 (Made in England) are all somewhat different and super dope. All got great quality and I’m glad you reviewed these.
I think for new balance. You really get what you pay for. i have started to love this brand since i bought the first pair of 993. And i also bought Omn1, and realize they dont just make good old shoes!

Due to issues with plantar fasciitis, I bought my first pair of New Balance 1080 v11 earlier this week. Super comfortable, and it was nice to just walk into the store and buy them instead of the sneakers app losses I'm used to lol. Excellent review as always, and I will definitely be picking up other pairs in the future.
New Balance is underrated. The Made in USA and Made in UK have awesome quality. 🔥 The ones that aren’t Made in USA and Made in UK have decent quality for their price. Asics also have good quality materials on them. 👌🏽 Nike, and Jordan brand are taking advantage of their customers with the price that they are asking for the quality of the products that they put out.
I love New Balance, 992, 990V3, 990V5 etc I don't mind paying the retail price because I know I'm getting a very comfortable shoe with awesome build and material quality.
Love the review. As someone with a Extra wide foot and rheumatoid arthritis that effects my feet, new balance has been a blessing for me. Still love me some Jordan's, yeezys, nikes, and adidas but these are my go to shoes when I go out nowadays lol. Plus it also helps that alot of their GR shoes are available and they also have good colorways.

Hey Chris I used to have a little collection of new balance sneakers, especially when the retro runner became popular 8 to 7 years ago.And all of sudden I stop buying it because at that time adidas boost is emerging.But anyway a month ago, I started appreciating them again and I added 12 pairs in my collection in a span of 1 month.And majority of them are the 99x series, it’s crazy!
I always skeptical about this New Balance's "Made In" line ups. I had some pairs of NB, all of them are modern performance running shoes, but never touch the Made In USA. Until last year, I bought a pair of 990v4 and I am impressed. Mad comfort and really nice materials were used.
I'm an x-ray tech at a busy clinic and put in around 8,000 - 10,000 steps a day just at work. I too have always viewed NB's as 'grandpa shoes' and never gave them a second thought. Now that I'm older and wiser, I like the look of the 990's and can't wait to enjoy their comfort and functionality. Thanks for the review!

I got hired on at new balance summer of 2020, and one of the main reasons why the 990’s and 993’s started to get to that 180 price point was because covid shut down the production of the 900 “made in usa” line which also kinda brought out the poachers for resell. so to try to hold the value of the shoe, for not only people who actually want the shoe, but for new balance to try to prevent that resell market they raised the price to 180. Before covid the new balance 993’s would sit in the outlets going for at times 90 dollars or around that market. (also with the women’s version unless you went with the wide, would be slightly more narrow than the men’s) also if it was the new balance in vacaville, that’s the one i was hired on at and i can’t believe i wasn’t there to meet you
Yeah, outside of DC and B-more, New Balances didn't have a great rep in the wider, mainstream culture. I really love their Made in US/UK sneakers. Quality has consistently top notch.
I’ve got a couple pairs of New Balance, and the material and quality is so much better than many of the Nikes I wear. Like the quality of 550s vs Dunks is significantly better.
In the DMV, new balances are a status symbol. It’s pretty simple why. New balances are a versatile shoe that aren’t passed in comfort by even things like ultra boost. Rich people like comfort, they like versatility, and they like status which they’ve always had in the DMV but now around the world. You cannot lose with this shoe.
Nice review of this shoe. I wear a lot of runners for training and casually so I like this quick take. The shoe looks fine, not spectacular. The only thing I would change is the price point. Runners have become quite pricey these days. 😩
I’m a Nike Jordan and New Balance head and New balance has always been 🔥 where I’m from “NY” no one got picked on for wearing NB. But I could see that happening other places. I always loved them and would rock them when I didn't want 2 have the same thing as everyone else. Not a huge fan of the 993 or 992 but great quality none the less. Great video
I like how NB has recently made these classics including the most popular colorways readily available so people can grab a pair anytime they want. I recently got myself a pair of grey 993, and man aren’t they beautiful!
If you never got a pair, find a color in 990 2002r 992 (any of the ones that look similar) that really speaks to you and trust me you will be blown away on of much you like them and how the quality changes your mind on what a good shoe should be.
Favorite New Balance shoe is the 1300’s so comfortable, very good quality. I say keep wearing your China Dunks I’ll stay with my 1300’s. I bought my first 1300s based on your video on the 1300’s Parks n Rec so thank you sir!

I've had 5 pairs of 992s while in high school, a pair pf 993s, 990s, 580s, 576s, 997H and 997S, my most recent pair, the ones with the huge N (which I'm not a fan of btw). NB are my 2nd favorite shoe brand all time

We been waiting for your opinion on this. 990s aren't performance runners anymore. They lean towards lifestyle. Event he recent V5 and soon to be released V6 are lifestyle shoes. The 990 and variants are designed in a way to mimic the 90s look of runners. The Fuel Cell and Fresh Foam NBs are their performance runners nowadays.
I feel like besides a couple collabs, the 990v6 is bringing the series back to serious running. The crazy chunky midsole and FuelCell add to this. I don’t think they’re as suited for casual wear as a 990v2, 998, or 990v4.
New balance is just another quality level, and i am a nike lover. Nike can just dream this quality. Again, new balance mixes colors as no other company does, shoes are colorful but always in the right way. I started with 1500 made in uk, i guess i will buy many others
I really wasn’t a big fan of new balance either until I interviewed Steven Smith on my podcast and hearing how just two guys pretty much set up the brand to be what it is today then add in the quality of the shoes, I’m fully on board from here on out

Dope video, I've owned a couple of pairs of New Balance, and I have to agree, they are so much more comfortable than any Nike product that I've owned in the last 30 years! That being said, I will always have a place in my collection for various Nike and Jordan products because of the story behind some of them, but for walking and running, it's most likely gonna be a New Balance. being from DMV, always wore 990s. any variation of the model is super comfortable. and yes.. the quality is so good esp compared to what we get with nike/jordan 😭
I got past the old man thing with new balance. The colors and materials got me. I rock them. Easy to get. Not like the hide and seek to get Jordan’s and dunks

I ordered a pair of custom Nike AF1’s a short while ago. They were made in Ho chi minh, Vietnam and were sent to me in 4 days… from Vietnam to the UK. That’s pretty damn quick! However, I’ve been looking into New Balance over the past 12 months and they actually make some models here in the UK, which is great, BUT, they don’t make my size in the sneakers I’m after, which is a bit… well… crap. I’m only a UK14 (US15), so it’s crazy to think that they don’t cater to me or others who need this size. Edit: Oh and I forgot to mention that New Balance we’re also known as the old person’s choice in the UK too.
Yes, correct. Mid and outsole are made overseas that's why they strongly opposed the threat to expand tariffs on China. Those parts are not made in the US anymore

Try the ALD collabs. if you liked the 993's you're going to love the 990 V5 because they're more comfortable yet stable and has a slick silhouette. I'm more of a 992s guy 'coz I like my chunky shoes hahaha!!!
Funny my brother convinced me to buy a pair making it my first ever new balance, was the same theory about who wore them when I was growing up the preppy kids lol.i needed to change my shoe selection up and I’m not disappointed I did they are made comfortable and materials 👍🏽. Might actually buy another pair if I can catch one for a cheaper price.

New balance 'made' is such a great value for the money. Anyone into good quality at a respectable price should check it out.

Literally one of the most comfortable shoes you can own. I have my pair from 6 years ago and they are still holding up.

Seems like the high end running shoes either charge so much for the newest tech or in this case, charge so much for the quality materials.

Not a big NB guy but they are definitely nice and comfy. Runners like NB, Asics (gel lyte iii), Sauconys (shadow) are some sleepers.

I really wasn’t a big fan of new balance either until I interviewed Steven Smith on my podcast and hearing how just two guys pretty much set up the brand to be what it is today then add in the quality of the shoes, I’m fully on board from here on out

You gotta get into the New balance niche, there’s some dope colorways out there. It’s similar to those dudes who have 50 pairs of AM 1’s. There are hundreds of dope NB colorways from 990 v3 v5, 992, 993
Dope video, I've owned a couple of pairs of New Balance, and I have to agree, they are so much more comfortable than any Nike product that I've owned in the last 30 years! That being said, I will always have a place in my collection for various Nike and Jordan products because of the story behind some of them, but for walking and running, it's most likely gonna be a New Balance. Thanks again for another great video and storytelling!

being from DMV, always wore 990s. any variation of the model is super comfortable. and yes.. the quality is so good esp compared to what we get with nike/jordan 😭

I got past the old man thing with new balance. The colors and materials got me. I rock them. Easy to get. Not like the hide and seek to get Jordan’s and dunks
yeah in middle school and high school i was big into jordans and nikes but since ive hit college i will only wear new balances

I ordered a pair of custom Nike AF1’s a short while ago. They were made in Ho chi minh, Vietnam and were sent to me in 4 days… from Vietnam to the UK. That’s pretty damn quick! However, I’ve been looking into New Balance over the past 12 months and they actually make some models here in the UK, which is great, BUT, they don’t make my size in the sneakers I’m after, which is a bit… well… crap. I’m only a UK14 (US15), so it’s crazy to think that they don’t cater to me or others who need this size.
Edit: Oh and I forgot to mention that New Balance we’re also known as the old person’s choice in the UK too.

Am I the only one that thinks New Balance 99(#) series has kinda dense foam?
I wear 990s to work everyday, and I don’t consider the foam soft at all.
Good call out that people experience the softness of foam in many different ways.

Yes, correct. Mid and outsole are made overseas that's why they strongly opposed the threat to expand tariffs on China. Those parts are not made in the US anymore
Got the 574, 577, 991, 992, 990v4 and v5, all quality and comfort goodness. Stiffest out of these were the 991 though.

Try the ALD collabs. if you liked the 993's you're going to love the 990 V5 because they're more comfortable yet stable and has a slick silhouette. I'm more of a 992s guy 'coz I like my chunky shoes hahaha!!!
Funny my brother convinced me to buy a pair making it my first ever new balance, was the same theory about who wore them when I was growing up the preppy kids lol.i needed to change my shoe selection up and I’m not disappointed I did they are made comfortable and materials 👍🏽. Might actually buy another pair if I can catch one for a cheaper price.
