That's the best review for mini 3 base I have met until now. I should add this to the comparison with the Pro version: While the mini 3 Pro overheats when not flying, the mini 3 base does NOT!
Looks like perfect companion for air2s, in my scenario of skiing videos, I can carry this in the pocket and use it for selfy style shoots, air2s for more quality mountain landscapes.

I haven't understood the Mini 3 since it came out. Why worry about how small the drone folds down to, if you're sticking with the humongous controllers?
It's not as ideal as the old Mavic Air that worked with your phone (for close range shots while riding), but, the controller does actually fit in my back jersey pocket (most of my cycling jerseys have three pockets, so one for drone, one for controller/random nutrition, and one for phone). Have you got any tips for how to gain confidence flying in real high winds, especially over water, but without your sphincter tightening up or leaking? Been looking for any tips but haven’t found any. Cheers
Haha...honestly, it's just trust knowing that as long as your top wind gust is below the top sport mode speed, you're fine. Also, leaving a buffer of battery to get back. For context, I've killed a lot of drones in my day, but never once in a wind test overwater. The DJI drones are just so reliable when it comes to high winds, there's really no concern.
Agreed, it’s an involuntary reaction whenever we fly equipment over the water! Seriously, though, always fly into the wind going out so that you know coming back, you’ll have enough battery left to make it home. But if worse comes to worse (including if you are in RTH mode) Duckdown flying under 10 feet AGL (or is it AWL lol) to conserve battery energy. Finally, wear extra tight pants and cinch up your belt buckle to the point of pain to provide some relief for your poor sphincter muscle!

Got this for those shots of the fish hitting the bait or even shots from high up 180 around me while I’m fishing. The only thing I’m worried about is the object avoidance not being on this one. I saw those two holes up top on the front and thought I just found a steal deal. But it’s okay I’ll get my practice in and get better at it.
great vid👍😃 did you notice any difference in terms of CE range/stability to 3pro? There were lots of complains regarding this issue. I think they now placed the antennas into these landing legs. Best regards from Switzerland
It's hard to compare in that sense because the Mini 3 (non-Pro) is running O2, whereas the Mini 3 Pro is running O3. That said, in terms of my CE range, I was hitting about 1000-1100m before I saw signal degradation, which is in the same ballpark as I saw for the Mini 3 Pro (both with DJI RC).
When testing the drones around Amsterdam, do you always fly strictly by regulations? First time flyer from Amsterdam and i find it extremely difficult to find a good place to train, since there are so many restrictions (Ijmeer, Natura2000,…always some restrictions). Would be great if you could point out some great locations around Amsterdam to legaly fly my Mini 2, would be much appreciated 😇🙏🏻
I do fly legally, which as you noticed is a solid pain in the butt here. The piers at IJmuiden are good/clear, out towards Abcoude is clear, and Almere are all good places that are mostly easy to get to.
Been kicking around getting a drone. Been looking at the Mavic, but that sort of $$$ is a bit much, but I'm aware at how good it is. I'm really liking the Mini 3 Pro after checking it out...but one thing I've noticed in practically all drone video footage, there seems to be a slight jerkiness or "micro freezes" to the video (I can see it in every example you posted here in this review) Not super noticeable, but it is noticeable. Why is that? To be honest, I'm not particularly interested in having to invest in an expensive video editing suit and going through color grading and all sorts of post shot editing. Maybe if I capture something amazing, then, but in general, I just want it as more of a casual use/toy. I want something that'll take decent video straight out of the drone. From the examples you posted here, the Mini 3 seems to have decent quality straight from the drone, but I'm still concerned with that jerkiness. Probably not a big deal to most people, but it drives me nuts 🙂
It'd be the same 720p feed as any previous drone to be honest. So unless you're on a Mavic 3/Mini 3 Pro/Avata, then all the previous units are Occusync 2. Totally fine for that.
Pricing on the Mini 3 is nuts. (Bear in mind I am talking AUD here). The Mini 3 fly more combo is $1188. The Mini 3 on its own is $674 and the fly more pack is $259... Do the math, how are two separate packs with the same contents as the combined pack so much less expensive???
I'm planning to buy my first drone to make footage of myself while traveling in a camper. Would you guys recommend going for a drone that does have active tracking or would these quick shot features be sufficient? Not sure what the difference is between both functionalities.

Thank you for an informative video. One question lingers for me. Does the drone require wifi/internet access to operate? I understand that downloading the firmware, etc, requires internet access. But does the drone also need it to operate in the field, where perhaps there’s no internet access?
No Wifi/ceullar required (except for updates you noted). In fact, since I use mine with the DJI RC most of the time, I never have cellular/wifi where I'm going (as I don't hotspot it to my phone). Zero issues.
Hi, quick question. after your test and these months after release, do you consider the autotracking good enough for cycling in off season /autumn. Do you feel relaxed using this feature ? Thanks!

This drone bundle is $399 at Costco right now! Standard controller and only 1 battery. But seems like a good price. Would you all suggest this as a good beginner drone?? I’ve never owned one OR flown one. But I want one so bad! Especially before they are banned
This looks like the best value for a drone that does tracking and obstacle avoidance and is still small enough to take on a bike trip. Is there anything else out there like that for bike packing?
Is that red Pier the North Pier in IJmuiden? I live nearby in Amsterdam. It almost looks like the Pier in Wijk aan Zee but I still think it is the North Pier IJmuiden.
Only for short periods. Watch this video here, which shows how it works (it's on Mini 2, but exact same for Mini 3 non-Pro): th-cam.com/video/ibGgvfbPUZM/w-d-xo.html
The mini 3 batteries last 4 minutes longer (38 min) then the pro (34 min), as the extra sensors on the pro are consuming extra battery power. With the "Fly-More-Combo pack" this means approx. 12 minutes longer fly time. And.... if you have a power bank with you, you can charge the first empty battery for more than one hour (2 x 38 min). If battery nr. 2 and 3 are empty too (after 72 minutes flight), battery nr. 1 can be used again as it takes approx. 1 hour charge per battery! Of course the fly time depends on al kind of variables (speed, wind etc), but still, you can fly about 4 times +/- 30 minutes = 2 hours ;-)
Damn dude you didn't talk about the right scroll wheel. I have a Mavic 3 Classic and the right scroll wheel will NOT do a continuous zoom. It does a hard switch in zoom power from 1 to 3 only. Does this with the Mini 3?
Yes. Check out my wind videos, usually shot on 70kph days. Today (100kph) would have been too much for every drone except Avata. But honestly today only happens 2-3 times a year. Most of the time it’s 70 or below on the coasts, no issues there.
Hiya mate, I’ve just got mini 3, I’ve not got SD card yet, I use my iPhone to fly it, I’m recording in 4k, but it doesn’t look as good as other videos I’ve seen of the 3 mini,, is it because it’s straight to iPhone and not using an SD card.?
Yeah, so when you look at the backup recording on your iPhone, it's only at 1080p. You'll want to choose to download the recording from the drone to your phone to get the full-res 4K recording. Check out my Mini 3 Pro (or Mini 4 Pro) beginners guide for how to do that, it's identical to the Mini 3 itself in that area.
Concerning crash avoidance, you should always remember that the pro doesn't have sensors sideways (think about tracking parallel) and if using sports mode, all sensors are disabled.
Hi looking so help I crashed my mini 3 one of the front arm socket broke which I ordered and replaced but now it given me a lot of code can you please tell me what I can do I would try and get the code to you
Nope, you don't need WiFi during flying, except if you haven't downloaded maps and want detailed maps of the area around you (I never bother). The no-fly zones are already downloaded globally either way.
Thank you for making such great videos. I’m considering buying my 1st drone. My decision is toward the Mini 3 Pro (vs mini 2 pro) to get the avoidance system and the auto shots. They are $1000 vs $500 CAD 🇨🇦. Literally double but it seems worth it.
You might know the answer to this as Dji stores here in Australia have no idea. I have the original Dji smart controller first generation with the screen. Can this controller run all the new drones? Dji stores told me that I would need to purchase a new drone to find out. And as you can imagine my response! Not positive. I hope you can help Cheers
Unfortunately no, no compatibility with the DJI Smart Controller. Technically speaking, DJI could do it just fine, but they decided to draw a line in the sand earlier this year and only add new features do the DJI RC Pro. :(
Wow - your production is really top notch. Drone Portfolio? Do not give me bad ideas. Still on an Air1. 14:23 To me 250 extra would worth be to get better active tracking.

This drone bundle is $399 at Costco right now! Standard controller and only 1 battery. But seems like a good price.
Would you all suggest this as a good beginner drone?? I’ve never owned one OR flown one. But I want one so bad! Especially before they are banned
How come the mini 3 is no longer available with the rc-n1 anymore?
This looks like the best value for a drone that does tracking and obstacle avoidance and is still small enough to take on a bike trip. Is there anything else out there like that for bike packing?
You must be commenting on the PRO vid. This is the NON Pro.
It doesn’t look like it, but can you confirm if this can shoot 10 bit?
No, it cannot. :(
Thx for explainer, just bought the mini 3
Looking for a drone for my kid and swore I recognised you, then realised you’re the fitness watch guy! Convincing me to buy various items 👍🏻
If only the mini 3 pro were still available! 😔 It seems that it's never in stock on the DJI website.
Does alle the batteries in the box have the same weight, total under 250 grams?
Can you download apps to the control ie fake GPS so you can choose a different location to where you actually are?
Is that red Pier the North Pier in IJmuiden? I live nearby in Amsterdam. It almost looks like the Pier in Wijk aan Zee but I still think it is the North Pier IJmuiden.
Yup, correct!
No ActiveTrack, but it can still follow you!? Can you explain it? Compare it with other models are useless when you don't know the others.
Only for short periods. Watch this video here, which shows how it works (it's on Mini 2, but exact same for Mini 3 non-Pro): th-cam.com/video/ibGgvfbPUZM/w-d-xo.html
Will the mini 3 work with the mini 2 controller.
Let’s talk 🚀🚀
I have a surprise for you..
@@PinkBike_ no
The mini 3 batteries last 4 minutes longer (38 min) then the pro (34 min), as the extra sensors on the pro are consuming extra battery power.
What a good drone to record riding a bicycle? (Road bike)
Thank you for this amazing video 👍 very helpful. Have a great day
Let’s talk 🚀🚀
I have a surprise for you…
So can this track you? As your video has you riding a bike and it's tracking you
Damn dude you didn't talk about the right scroll wheel. I have a Mavic 3 Classic and the right scroll wheel will NOT do a continuous zoom. It does a hard switch in zoom power from 1 to 3 only. Does this with the Mini 3?
No...its smooth zoom
just a question, did you shoot in Netherlands? is this drone good for the kind of winds in the Netherlands facing lately ?
Check out my Mini 3 Pro (or Mini 4 Pro) beginners guide for how to do that, it's identical to the Mini 3 itself in that area.
i was just listening to this and this guys facts are all over the place
And what facts would those be?
Awesome video! Taking your advice and going for the Mini 3 pro. Better controller and better crash avoidance- I hope👍😊
Concerning crash avoidance, you should always remember that the pro doesn't have sensors sideways (think about tracking parallel) and if using sports mode, all sensors are disabled.
Hi looking so help I crashed my mini 3 one of the front arm socket broke which I ordered and replaced but now it given me a lot of code can you please tell me what I can do I would try and get the code to you
Thanks for the review! Subscribed ✅️
What country did you film this in? Looks like the Netherlands or somewhere close.
Yup, the Netherlands!
Is rhe video feed quality worse than the mini 2 do you think? I was hapoy with the quality on my mini 2 feed so if its the same i should be fine
Fix your spelling please
3:50 it doesn't have hyperlapse?
Correct, no Hyperlapse.
So, this is in the Netherlands, right? Do you need a license/permission to fly one of these?
Does the rc controller have external video output to connect goggles etc
Only the Pro version unfortunately, no method on the regular DJI RC (frustratingly).
Does the rc screen need wifi when your out and about so u can view the screen when your flying the drone.
Nope, you don't need WiFi during flying, except if you haven't downloaded maps and want detailed maps of the area around you (I never bother). The no-fly zones are already downloaded globally either way.
Can you use the controller of the Mavic air 1 for this drone?
No. As far as I know, the DJI RC-N1 came with the DJI Air 2S, DJI Mini 2 (I think also the Mini SE), Mini 3 Pro, the Mavic 3.
@@Dcrainmaker And the Mavic air 1 works in WiFi
@@playingsaint Correct, the last DJI drone to do so (for control)...sadly.
Another brilliant option we have for the mini series. Have to say the Mini 3 is such a good entry-level drone that performs well with a fair price.
Let’s talk 🚀🚀
I have a surprise for you..
Yup, I think it's definitely worth the cost!
I just came from youtube studio in explore topics with an example and i saw your video🤞
Nice, I was just playing with that this morning.
The specs say it can fly 25 km with extended battery plus i would have to seek that
I suspect it could if you were chasing it the entire time to stay within range.
@@Dcrainmaker I’m curious as to see lol
I have seen a video of someone flying one 15 km without moving anywhere with power to spare.
Looks like IJmuiden and the zaanseschans to me in the Netherlands🇾🇪
Yup indeed!
You might know the answer to this as Dji stores here in Australia have no idea. I have the original Dji smart controller first generation with the screen. Can this controller run all the new drones? Dji stores told me that I would need to purchase a new drone to find out. And as you can imagine my response! Not positive. I hope you can help
Cheers
Unfortunately no, no compatibility with the DJI Smart Controller. Technically speaking, DJI could do it just fine, but they decided to draw a line in the sand earlier this year and only add new features do the DJI RC Pro. :(
@@Dcrainmaker thank you so much for responding and clarifying my concerns. Keep up with the great reviews
Wow - your production is really top notch. Drone Portfolio? Do not give me bad ideas. Still on an Air1.
14:23 To me 250 extra would worth be to get better active tracking.
Yup, I agree!
If flying forward is more efficient than hovering. Then I wonder how much more efficient the drone would be if real wings were added to help battery life in forward motion.
Far more efficient, but then less nimbal too. Also, likely more prone to wind impacts.
Excellent video. Thank you!
Update, recent firmware now makes Mini3 capable of capturing 48mp photos vs the once advertised 12mp 😮
really?
