I grew up reading about the sniper matches in the 80s and 90s where it was actually field skills, would much rather do something like this instead of pure gamer shit like PRS.

I shot my first PRS match this weekend in the "Tactical" division and found it was the exact same as the Open but with .308's. I agree that PRS needs to set a max weight for the Tactical division, bipod and one bag support ONLY, and I think it would be cool if they set a mandatory optic like a Leupold Mark 5 or Nightforce as used by the military. Even better if they specified a particular factory round like a Federal GMM 175 gr. It's not very "Tactical" to watch a dude push a 25 lb chassis rifle around in a stroller between stages.
With that said, I had 3 active duty Marine snipers on my squad who were using custom actions in an AI chassis with Mark 5 scopes and M118LR ammo. I do see some value in the PRS format, but I think they need to take some steps to further refine what "Tactical" actually is besides a .308.

@E You're on to something there, but that doesn't fit the PRS format with as many stages as they have. However, if you check out the "sniper" matches, there's a lot more movement between stages or tasks. Also, the time for the movement is factored in to the score. You definitely see guys being more picky about gear and rifles. You don't see guys carrying around 25 lbs of sandbags.
