    You should be able to smite with an unarmed strike, slapping someone across the face and having a Thunderclap sound off would be a potent intimidation tool

    If you do a second. Here's mine.
    Wotc removing Half races and renaming ki to aura in the new dnd is not just stupid; but technically racest since mixed race couples and offspring is a thing irl.
    Pathfinder is far better with diversity and to top it off. It has a far more interesting patheon.

    Played dnd for a few years. Now having A BLAST in pf2e rn. It's honestly much, much more simple to dm and play. This simplicity, tho, comes only after a few sessions, cause there is a bit more mechanics.

    Re: material components - did the OP not know what an arcane focus does? They’re the perfect object for dm and spell caster alike. You can ignore all the minor materials while still requiring a 300 gp diamond for revivify. It’s perfect

    As much as I love Fifth Edition, it's REALLY unbalanced (which is part of what people love about it).
    Paladin is just a straight upgrade to Fighters, Tasha's new subclasses introduced some power creep, hell, the best build in the game is straight-up Peace Cleric 1/Chrono Wizard 19.
    Peace Cleric's level one ability stacks with bless and effectively doubles your PB, for 10 minutes, without concentration, and can be used the number of times equal to your PB bonus (meaning you can dip just ONE level.)
    That hot take at 3:01 IMO is hundred percent right lmao

    I have players roll to me privately. Myself and the player knows.
    My hot take is that you're not unconscious when you go down. You're just unstable. You can't take actions or anything, just like being unconscious, but as you drift away, on each turn I ask for a description of what you're doing - reaching out to someone? Remembering something you regret? Trying to falteringly plead for your party to flee and leave you?
    It's mandatory. Tell the table what your character is doing, then roll to me privately.
    Not knowing how safe your ally is, but having them broken and struggling, really raises the stakes.

    Ranger was and still is good, revising it and giving variant/optional features weren't necessary. They have great ranged and melee potential but also have decent damn half casting. Favored Terrain/Foe is really just something to further a story or bring a bit extra life to the character, work with the dm for that.
    The Wizard's Necromancy subclass is op because you can make extra undead, buff undead, and heal with your necromancy kills. One graveyard or a handful of bandits and then the player has several zombies who can easily take down future enemies and have a higher likelihood of succeeding their undead fortitude.

    • @twistedpinttavern
      @twistedpinttavern  ปีที่แล้ว

      I love ranger, it's a class that's viable in game and in role play

    • @xaropevic7918
      @xaropevic7918 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree on that ok ranger, but maybe the revision could be useful because brought simpler versions of the class (but the class in general got complicated).
      About necromancy wizard though, if you really want to, you can make those infinite undead shenanigans with any wizard, I admit that buffing them is great, but that is ONLY 1 good feature, the last one is very situational

    Fighter, wizard, artificer, monk and ranger are the most balanced classes and have the best design. It's only because of comparison to the OP classes do they look poor in design.
    Since there is little difference in theme now, I would never choose a fighter over a paladin when I think about pure power.
    ------------------------------------
    Hit points should not increase every level. Instead starting with a bulk amount and increases every time their proficiency modifiers increase
    --------------------------
    You should not make attack rolls. Hit points are explained as a mix of fatigue and near misses until the final blow. A level 10 paladin could be a one man Army against a legion of goblins, at a choke point, for 16 hours of straight combat without rest. The way things are currently written.
    Every round of combat should wear away your hit points by their proposed explanation of hit points.

    D&D 5e is definitely a bit unbalanced, though at least you can't make PunPun or other similar crazy BS anymore. (not that that stuff is inherently bad, it's just examples of how insane 3.5e was) Honestly, though, this isn't nearly as much of a problem as it would be for a competitive game. D&D is a coop game and the DM can tweak things as needed if the players are above or below the curve.

    My remedy to material components in my campaigns is essentially treating the component pouch like an artifact that has charges. When you go to a shop you pay to have it recharged (refilled with common components).

    • @twistedpinttavern

      Does it work for all components, or just non consumed/valued ones?

  • @VestedUTuber
    @VestedUTuber ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, honestly, the spell component balance issue is why, even with an arcane focus, RAW still requires consumables.

  • @fnargler
    @fnargler ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My current campaign doesn't do components and it's considerably more fun. Of course the whole thing is a big ol goofy clusterfuck where I play a Treant Bard who manipulated the politics of our main town so that a raccoon is now mayor, which violates the tenets of the trash treaty between the raccoons and crows, causing the crows to break the primordial totems of the crow god and usher in the Garbagemageddon/Trashpocolypse. It's a good time.

    Everything officially published is not a set in stone, ready to go material, but a skeleton you need to work with, no good DM runs 100% by the book, be it mechanics or lore. And expecting that everything someone publishes is going to fit 100% your world and preferences or it is bad is entitlement speaking.
