Mick Karn was a legendary fretless bass player. He approached the instrument in a very unique way.

even aside from the absolute pleasantry that is this song, that is the coolest bass i've ever seen

To get even close to the playing style and sound Mick Karn is an achievement in its own right, you at very least equal it, amazing stuff !!!

You are baddass if you know Japan. I’m impressed. Check out “Dalis Car” a project with Peter Murphy (Bauhaus) and Mick Karn (Japan) super sick bass playing.

80s 'Synth/New Wave' and fretless bass go together like bacon on a cheeseburger. Great stuff (now I'm going to grab a burger).

Thank you! This is in fact a fretless bass, it just used to have frets and the wood filler I used to fill the gaps when I ripped them out makes it look like it still has them

@@iv4nbassarr i see. Well my ears didnt deceive me even if my eyes did lol certainly looks like a normal bass fret! You have perfected Micks sound just fantastic. Being a drummer all my life i always have an affinity with bass players and bass sounds! What was the original bass you have bastardised? Youve done an amazing job with the artwork. I can see Flea making you an offer for it!!! Hows your band coming along??

I believe it was a Harley Benton diy kit. The electronics in it really should be replaced for a decent set of pickups, although I have managed to make these ones work. My bands doing really well and are trying to start playing live although we’ve had a bit of a break over summer as I have been quite busy with sports projects and one of the guys went on a camping trip, thanks for asking.

Whoever is guiding your musical influences deserves a big 👏👏 Yet another great choice and fantastic performance. Would be interested to know about your setup - bass di’d into a/d conversion, straight to daw? Great work as ever.

Thank you very much! That would be me guiding my own musical i fluencies, although my dad turned me on to 70s and 80s music and jazz at a very young age. The way I set everything up, is I use the line out output on my Markbass amp head which goes into the audio interface into the DAW. This was I have a balanced signal and can really shape my tone with the amp head. Hope this helps!

I learnt about Japan through a request from a subscriber in the comments. Also I am from England (I hope TH-cam’s translate functions have worked properly)
