I love how in the moment Rob was during this performance. Just in the very middle of it. Emotionally connected to it and radiating the energy out to the rest of us. No pauses or chuckles to let the crowd sing popular verses... no, Rob owned the moment and delivered it to us all.
Is there anything more annoying then an artist letting the crowd sing or talking or singing different lyrics or adding lyrics that were not use to!!! It’s the worst!! Huge reason I love matchbox and someone also like Garth brooks they stick with the script and what the fans know
I can really relate to this song. I've been there and done that many moons ago. The late 70s 80'S 90's were the best many great memories. Sometimes you have to shut the world out and close your eyes and turn up the music! 2024 music for life.
How a band can sound the same or better live than in studio amazes me. Are there really just that few bands that are not so heavily post produced? These are the only guys whose live performances I don't avoid on TH-cam. Live never sounds as good. These guys are something special.
Best song ever! Rob's voice is amazing! I fell in love with this song in the late 90's. I would travel to Victoria BC from the US side on the weekends to bar hop and dance. I always asked for this song to be played. Best years of my life!!!
Incredible. He deserved more cred. They were never considered cool but you can't deny this man as a vocalist and lyricist. This performance was a fucking journey. So honest!
How is it possible a guy sings a song which is the same live compared to the studio album? I mean this guy is so blessed and gifted I can´t even find the words! Rob is definitely something else on the vocals!
Even more than a greatest singer I used to be a front man in the band in the 80s and fortunately now I look more like Haas from Bonanza but Rob Thomas has the greatest voice and his lyrics are incredible even when he can rhyme Alaric he doesn't I've never seen anything like him before he is a freaking God
Hard to find a singer that actually sounds better live than in studio. Got dragged to a MB20 concert with my family when I was a teenager, turned out to be one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I remember literally being brought to tears when he sang this. I'll never forget this show for as long as I live. Rob Thomas is incredible
@Aaron Mccandless Have you seen the whole concert that this song is from? It's such a cool ride to go along on...In 1 word, Perfection!! Look up Matchbox 20 concerts, it's the "iTunes Festival 2012"
Damn, this song came out in 96 and Rob still sings the same. 90% of singers who sing the same song 18 years later sound different or worse. Love this band, every lyric really touches me and the way Rob pours out his everything into every single performance as well as the rest of the bandmates. You can really tell that they're a great band together, on their faces you can see how they feel about playing with such emotion god I just love them!!
@Brad C look it up, it's on here atleast. Matchbox 20 concerts, its the itunes festival 2012. I searched for it a few yrs back and found it! It's Unbelievable!!
I agree. I think people assume singing is easy, especially slower songs like this but here you can clearly see it takes a lot of energy to sound this good.
Very Beautiful song ,,Rob Thomas ,,Match box 20 ,,,,so smooth so real ,Match box Twenty gave us some Beautiful songs ,Thanks Match box,,Very Well done !!!,,
Rob has such amazing talent i melt every time i listen to one of his songs. It’s like I’m hearing it for the first time everytime, and i just keep falling in love. This is one band that will never let me down. I admire all the passion they put into their voices and performances
My my my Rob Thomas is the best most talented singer and song writer of my life and I want to thank Rob Thomas for helping me with my tragedys and the hell I have been through a lot he saved me!! Ty xoxo
This is version is way better than the album version, it's heartfelt and is coming from his soul and that is what makes a song actually move a person,Well played Rob.
think it was on purpose and he's just that cool. seriously sick drumming performance, epic from the band all round. They are all so zoned in on what they're doing. absolutely incredible. and yeah he actually changes the type of sticks after the first verse chorus. the first set is actually thinner sticks banded together i think to give a softer sound, and he switched to hard sticks after that, and you reallllly feel the volume jump when he gets into the middle of the song. and I think he used a gong type stick at the end too. phenomenal
WORDS INTO THE VOID They are a better example of Blue-eyed Jazz. They reveal at smaller venues and when they thought no one was really listening; in the first few rears on stage. They have been the sound I go to when I "need a night." Beer, So. Co. Smoke Music videos.Oh.And a Very black, black coffee. But, the band has to FEEL the music. Hall & Oats was a Blue-eyed Soul. Matchbox is already in and had surpassed that league in they're the first album twelve-track recordings. I saw them at the Davie Co. Flea Markey in Davie, Fla. It was a sunny, Sunday afternoon, and my eighteen-month-old daughter and I listened and jammed along for the whole damn concert. It was my best dame day, since I had gotten stupid, drove down with "a Guy that I use to know" from Michigan to Lauderdale Florida. I worked tables during the day and the rails during the night. Hay. Don't judge. I was twenty-two, had a baby, was a long way from home, and oh well snap {he turned out to be a major time drug dealer, out on parole. Hmmm... He forgot to tell me that. Did I mention I wasn't drunk? I was an idiot. ***Idea for a T-shirt or beer cozy. In small print in parenthesizes// I'm also sarcastic as Hell Then you say as they are reading it: " Dude... The eyes are up here." Do this male or female and then laugh. Just to see how they respond. If they laugh back... POINTS If they don't laugh back, you lose points. If you try to explain it... DUDE! WTF! Really??? You are already talking to drywall, dude. You are making me sad now, walk away. Just walk away now. And, burn the T-shirt. You don't deserve to be in our club anymore. Burn the shirt. The second time I saw MB20, I was tending bar... Oh! Come On! For Fuckin Real!? You all not only fuck up "If Your Gone." over five times, and almost having me peeing myself laughing -because I'm serving a packed bar and haven't had a break since I came on at 19:00! And, when he fucked up "Night In/On? Hollywood." (nope. didn't know the name, didn't care about the lyrics so much. It was just that it was on the Jukebox and it didn't totally suck.) I dropped a bourbon/ soda and a Vodka/tonic//rocks/Wdg, while LMFAO. I just absolutely lost it! Thanks for all of these amazing albums any lyrics that make us feel "Real" for a moment. Hay Dude!!! Thanks For This Post. Sorry. I'm on a mini-vaca. weed, so so. dark coffee, beer and MB20 (shit. that in and of its self took three times to type MB@) and not MB@) ROTFGLMFAO X-D
This is the time when Rob was such a great songwriter - when he really had something to say. Have seen MB20 at least 20 times live and they never disappointed.
When I watch this, it makes me feel alive! To wrap up with how blown away that I get, is on the facial , the precious face reaction that that little Indian Girl has is on 3:50...She could not talk if she had to at this very moment! I mean if you asked her a question right then,,HaaHaa...........Now that is how much is the effect with how the song and the singing of Rob does. Oh and on 4:39 the little girl goes to do a facial gesture to the camera, but cuts it off and turns from the sudden change of sound in to making sure to not miss RObs next inducement .. of expression that memorizes all of us..... So Glad he and the band is still alive and is young......To maybe make more songs cause no body else is... Now Korn did a good job last year...
Everyone here knows everyone here is thinking about somebody else. And everyone here, hates everyone here for doing just like they do. It's nothing , it's so normal. Everyone hides 50 shades of shame. JAN 22/2015 Just Say'in
EmilysnightmareISsic that s funny cuz I always say I choose not to be an aficionado of any other human cuz we are all different yet the same...we can't judge, so anyway long story long hypothetically I would probably cut off a finger or two as well...lmao
Many people dissed them on their early albums (mostly because they thought it was cooler to love ze punk-rock genre), but this is real, down to earth rock n' roll, sung from the soul. Anyone can hear this song and relate a moment of their life time to it. Does that make it popular? Yes. Should it be shunned because it's not edgy enough? Nah. Also.. he does sweat profusely. But if you've ever sung a tune ever in your life, it does take a lot of energy; just because you don't have a guitar strapped to you, or a set of drumsticks in your fingers, doesn't mean you're not playing the most important instrument out of a band, which is the human voice. Hat's off to these gentlemen for producing some great music for our generations. xD
Your welcome! I didn't know there was going to be so much interest. Unfortunately, this is all I recorded because this was a last minute decision. I'll definitely be getting the entire shows of Ellie Goulding, Alicia Keys, and Muse. If anyone has any other requests, let me know.

I am 66 and this is one of the greatest songs written and performed ever!
I love how in the moment Rob was during this performance. Just in the very middle of it. Emotionally connected to it and radiating the energy out to the rest of us. No pauses or chuckles to let the crowd sing popular verses... no, Rob owned the moment and delivered it to us all.

Men those last 2 verses always make my skin crawl.

agree

Pours all his soul into every song
Sure doesn't happen often! I rather hear them live, most cases!
GOAT
Because he’s that good 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻 nobody else like him ✌🏻
This is one of the great singers that even in live his voice never change. His voice is so good, cool and one the best singer/band i know!

True that !

Are u kidding ?? ❤ Love me some mb20 .

Goes along with the rest of their songs, watched a ton of live performances and they always sound the same as their recording versions!
Dude, I've always noticed this and admired Rob and the guys even more so just for that. Matchbox Twenty is my life long favorite band.
Bailey Stuckey I don't know who could hate them aha they're my favorite band as well as green day lol!
He sings with his heart & soul
Why the fuck are people sitting there not realizing they're in the presence of absolute perfection???? wtf?!
WOW, his voice is soooo amazing! You could fall in love with him!
Them lyrics are so powerful so much meaning!
more than 15 years later and Rob still look and sounds exactly the same like in mid 90's
No other band today comes close
Now that's a show I'd love to experience. Some serious soul and emotion from that band...top notch.
@Brad C look it up, it's on here atleast. Matchbox 20 concerts, its the itunes festival 2012. I searched for it a few yrs back and found it! It's Unbelievable!!
This touches my soul. I envision driving to this as the sun sets. A song from my childhood!
incredible vocal control considering how much energy it takes to carry a performance like this. Bravo Mr. Thomas.
I agree. I think people assume singing is easy, especially slower songs like this but here you can clearly see it takes a lot of energy to sound this good.
He dragged the entire time. Otherwise he sounded great, but him “playing catch-up” the entire song was distracting
This song rips my heart apart 💔
This is one of my favorite albums ever "Yourself or someone like you" Rob and the boys from Matchbox 20 are amazing artist!
Mine too!
this song is very well written and delivered. High level stuff here.

Good recovery by the drummer at 1:37, tossed his stick and recovered without missing a beat.
Is like, 🤯🤯🤯🤯 where that stick gone??? . 😂😂😂😂J
Did he toss it or did it break?

I love the words to this song. Wet need to stop lying to ourselves.
