Apollo's mother dies in Creed 3, cause it was in-between the two fights and it led to the ultimate challenge for the last fight. Also, Creed 2 had Apollo's mother and Rocky reuniting after however many years.
The 1st Rocky movie will always be number 1 to me.
For years I loved Rocky 3 but after watching Rocky 4 enjoyed Rocky 1 always got my heart

The first four Rocky movies rocked as well as the sixth one and also the first two Creed ones
The one with Mr T... Rocky 3.
After that eye problem in rocky 2 and the fights after rocky should be blind by the creed movies
Hello there! I agree that R4 needs a new-of-both-worlds cut. The later cut does drop a couple things that always made me cringe (the robot, the ending-the-cold-war speech), but it loses a lot of energy, too.
Here’s mine: (1) Rocky II; (2) Rocky; (3) Rocky IIIl (4) Rocky Balboa; (5) Creed 1; (6) Rocky IV; (7) Creed 2; (8) Creed 3; (9) Rocky V.

I hope we get a Creed 4 but in my head I haven’t broken the story. I didn’t like Creed 3 that much because the story felt scraped together and kind of pointless. Part one was an unexpected gift. Part 2 was a logical progression, taking on legit unfinished business between Creed and the Dragos. The Creed story kind of reached its dramatic peak when Adonis defeated Viktor and there wasn’t necessarily anywhere satisfying to go after that, which is why 3 suffers for me. The Damian Anderson antagonist they give us in 3 feels kind of like a contrivance, and it’s always bugged me that a dude who boxed only a short time before spending years in jail could ascend to be a viable competitor to Adonis. It definitely feels like a step down from Viktor as a foil.
The truth is that Stallone’s go-to move to create dramatic stakes after II was killing off characters. In III Rocky has to get over losing Mickey. In IV, it’s Apollo. In Rocky Balboa, it’s Adrian. It always worked. It made Rocky sympathetic, and it knocked him down so dramatically that watching get up, figuratively and literally, had real weight. In Creed 3 they went there with Maryanne, but I wouldn’t want to see it there again because his wife and daughter characters are too young and vibrant to be killed off (it would be a bummer), so I don’t know what. They should do fire up a story worth telling.
@benneidl9336 this is an eye-opening analysis; the franchise did rely on death to up the ante. Creed II being a logical progression and being what it is, maybe it should've been the final movie in the Creed series as opposed to the second. They should've waited that plotline out.
I think my own suspension of belief with Dame was aided by how lucky he was to become champion and how Donnie was retired and out of his peak. That and the emotions behind it all compromised Donnie but fueled Dame b/c of how he took the fall for Donnie and lost out on his prime (and how much that hurt him to feel left behind).
Some ppl are calling for a "Clubber Lang's son" storyline and I think that would be the cheesiest rehash crap they could do. Aa for how a 4th entry would go, I think they may have to take the protege route now. Donnie's career seems to be over.
