I wished Birdie would have been alive and survived till the end and what Singh said that Jepp will die in his dream so I thought Jepp will die in the end and Gus's mom will now look over Gus.

It’s a cycle because you can see dr Singh holding Gus’s antler and then the antler sprouting into a plant making it another virus tree and so that would affect the hybrids and not the humans since the humans aren’t there anymore and the hybrids are and then maybe after the new virus gets out it will kill the hybrids making new species and so on like a cycle

Jepp's fate is ambiguous, but I think he died as there are many clues:
    - once he lies down outside the cave we never see him get up and at this point it's clear that he is severely injured (and in a harsh, cold climate, in the middle of nowhere and without medical help this means death)
    - Wendy and Bear don't try to help, they walk away after talking with Gus - all of them understand that this is only a matter of time and that this is the time for the "son" to say goodbye to his "father"
    - we also don't see Jepp in the scenes showing the reunion with hybrid kids and how the sanctuary is being built, which strongly implies that he never got back from Alaska with them
    - why Jepp asks Gus to tell him a story in the first place? it seems he wants a bedtime story so he can go to sleep (and never wake up)
    - right before the scene with Jepp in the sanctuary, the old Gus says that "he lives on in our stories" - a clue that what we see next is not what actually happened, but just a story
    - when Jepp asks about his fate in Gus' story - at first we see an empty chair, which could be just to build tension / play with our emotions, but it also could be a clue that he is not actually there - that would mean that in Alaska Gus knows that Jepp is close to death, but he alters the story he is telling to comfort him as he is dying
    That last realization destroyed me.
    Very powerful ending.

It's also possible he saw jebb the way he saw his dad, who was also dead.

I have two main criticisms of this season.
    1. for one, I would have loved to see a tribute to every person who helps Gus along his journey that he showed the kids, maybe it could be a book he painted (like pubba's), or something like what they had for the members of the animal army. I just think it would be nice, as well as a reminder to the audience
    2. I still am really mad about the plot hole of pregnancy and hybrids. From what I gathered, the plan was to "cure" Ginger right before she gave birth in order for the baby to be human, but that makes absolutely no sense, even is she was cured, the hybrid traits would have already developed, this goes for the entire show too.
Other than that, I really liked this season, Just wish it wqas longer

    • @paulbrown9328
      @paulbrown9328 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +26

I don’t know if that counts as a plot hole. Because there was never a cure for hybrids that’s just what zhang thought. They thought it was the cure to everything. Her understand of how the cure would work was just misconstrued and off but, it’s not a plot hole because it doesn’t contradict or retcon anything it’s just a bit unknown about her thought process about the cure and how human/hybrid fits into that. And I feel like the pregnancy was just prejudices against being born hybrid. If the child was born a hybrid I think regardless of if the “cure ” could turn it around she’d still have some prejudices and not accept it. Her thought process must be if it comes into this world as a hybrid then that’s what they’ll always be. It’s the classic villain doesn’t understand the full picture and fails because of it. But Gus and the crew never believed hybrids were the problem or could be “cured” they were only focused on the sick. Even this misconception that gus was the first hybrid because everyone was lacking info. It just ended up being classified as a nature or evolutionary thing rather than a supernatural or scientific thing.
Edit: well I guess you can classify what the referred to as nature as supernatural as well. Since it decided to let the remaining humans live because it felt the good that they have in Big Man, Birdie, and Singhs final moments.

For two I think you have to understand that people arent rational. Especially controlling, power hungry people. There once a dictator who killed anyone who wore glasses because they thought they were too smart. (Google it) Her warped vision of a perfect legacy lead to her being unrealistic and obsessive. I agree. The show suggested that animals "don't destroy everything like humans". Whoever actually believes this idea doesn't have much experience with animals, especially in groups larger than 2. Animals are self focused, DON'T clean up their own messes, can hold grudges for years against each other, are bullies if they can get away with it and don't have a better nature than humans in any way, they just are not intelligent enough to create tools that create more widespread destruction. Humans have the same basic selfish nature, but many at least WANT to overcome it. This series's existence is evidence that humans recognize evil in themselves and wish to change. My wife and I really enjoyed the plot and story, but disagree with the conclusion that animals would be better care takers of the earth and disagree that humans being killed off is a good thing. Why did Avengers suggest the same idea? Is this the new woke theme? "All or most humans should did so Nature can be free of the human disease?". Where did that idea come from?

What about locusts or termites? If some humans are more destructive, it's not because humans are morally inferior but because animals don't have the technology to perform their will more strongly. Or what about invasive species? Species that come from one part of the world can destroy lots of other species. That invasive species has NO moral compass to preserve anything. Human beings (in general) at least have a desire to preserve what is around them. While not every human listens, humans have the capacity for conscience: to decide within themselves "I have the ability to do this, the desire to do this, but it would be immoral, so I won't." Animals just act on what they have the desire and ability to do unless they are afraid of immediate consequences.

Yes, the ordinary person has good in them. However, when it comes to those in power, either politically or financially, this isn't always the case. Unfortunately, they make the decisions based on whats good for them. We do not have great form when it comes to being stewards of the earth. War, pollution, destruction of other species, and genocide. We have humans who are rich whilst others die of starvation. Healthcare that is not universal.
Animals are not greedy, they're not malicious. They do what they need to, to survive. We destroy ecosystems. Then wonder why mother nature sends us viruses like covid? Trying to restore the balance, perhaps? This isn't woke, this in many ways, a story of hope. Hope that humanity can change. We probably won't agree. However, I appreciate and can see your point of view. This is just mine.

And the fact that the entire season it was hinted that he wasn't in good shape and at the end it was said that this might be his last adventure, so the fact that the entire season it was hinted that he might die and then in the end he didn't just made it feel like they played too safe and were scared to kill him.

I understand the direction the story took and I think it was well done. However, I have one major complaint -- why kill-off Gus' mom? That was just too sad, and typical. Too many shows have the mother die. The character struggles through their life with this tragedy nipping at their heels, creating dramatic elements. In Sweet Tooth, Gus had been motherless the entire story so we could have had a happier ending there. Although, was it the work she did that caused "the sick" to spread? Unless I missed something, was her death a necessity? Too sad.

I personally think the lore of the tree could still have more details than this ,and that burning down the tree is to just let the nature choose, is also really vague for me. If there have a bit of more back story about the tree, it might be a bit more interesting and feel complete. Also I would like to see the life of other families too, I thought I could at least see Rosie and her boys living their life freely in the woods, or maybe how the family with bat boys were doing, but I guess maybe they don’t have enough money to focus on that in the end 🤷‍♀️

There are clues pointing both ways with whether big man made it off the mountain or not, but I believe he did. Season 3 episode 7 too many plot contrivances! e.g., Fox girl easily gets the clicker even though the wolves surround Rosie at all times, Jeppard easily finds Gus in the Caribou man's house, Zingh and Dr. Singh easily find the cave, the survivors decide it's the best move to take harpoon guns to try and stop a 10-ton machine instead of the guns laying on the floor, all the antagonist easily enter the cave and pass by the blue flowers that give the sickness only showing that they used fire at the end to clear the tunnels not originally to get thru, and they passed by the ice and water without incident, and everyone easily escaped without any falling into said water. Annoying and lazy writing. Not to mention Dr. Singh was like 10 feet away from stabbing Gus when Birdie and Big Man had enough time to get in between Gus and he somehow stabbed her. That was dumb. Then he's given another chance which just plays up the drama and drags it out even more. By the second time, Zingh would have just grabbed the knife and said, "I'll do it myself!" And what is this with two guys easily able to hold down Big Man? They do it a bunch of times but more in these last two episodes. All of that just takes me out of the season and ruins the finale IMO.

The tonal shifts can be a bit awkward but i think its intentional to show the sort of world the adults want the kids to experience, how the kids experience it and how the bleak reality the adults are experiencing. Every adult death had a certain weight to it. Those who were destructive to the children and the earth, the audience felt relief that they were finally gone. While the adults wo demonstrated, even if brief , of either caring for the hybrid kids or cherished the Earth their death is tragic, heartbreaking or get a sense they feel fulfilled or at peace with their actions. These as Gus says continue to live on with the hybrids meaning the humans who cared deeply for their family, others and the earth were remembered, which is what most older gens want is to be remembered for the good they did.

This season was awful. The ending itself was satisfactory -knowing the hybrids future. But a lot of it didn’t make sense. Why did they introduce the 100+ year old hybrid, kill him, and then not make it a point of contention when they were trying to kill Gus? Isn’t the reason they believed they had to kill Gus is because he was the first? Also-when gus, big man, and his mom had to carefully move through the frozen flowers it was a big dramatic scene because if one became disturbed they’d get the sick. and then a bit later the protagonists (can’t remember her name) team torched the place and no one got sick. Maybe I missed something. But I was left more questions about why they released the season the way they did rather than actually being captivated by the story.

I don't know if this is correct but I stabled upon the "Master of Animals" motif that is found in near eastern ancient civilizations.
I don't think it inspired the book, but it really works within the context of the show.
Anybody reading this Google the Master of Animals. Motif. It usually have a hero if some kind defeating animals. Sometimes the tree of life is associated too. At times the hero figure could be a God but also it could be a mortal, even one with animal features like horns and antlers.
In the epic of gilgamesh His friend Enki battles animals and transitions from animalistic tendencies towards more civilized ones.
From this book it seem that represents man taking from nature and the book now focuses on doing the opposite. Reverting man back to his more harmonious animalistic state.

Gillian was related to Thacker and was looking for something to stop human aging. Once they got the cores back to the lab, they tested the microbes they found in eggs. Of the eggs that developed one strain started the Sick and it spread fast. Gillian was the first to show symptoms from the Fort Smith personnel and the first to die, as far as we know, from the Sick in out time. The other egg hatched Gus. No other animal besides humans cares about anything but themselves… sigh humans just became the best at it. Again this show is waaaaaaaaay too preachy but thanks for recap.

It's a shame because I think if it did then it would be a lot more popular!
