King Charles and Queen Camilla Meet Windrush Portrait Sitters in Buckingham Palace

- The King and Queen hosted a reception where they met 10 people whose faces have been immortalised in paint marking the 75th anniversary of arrival of the Empire Windrush. Charles and Camilla chatted and joked with the elders, who sat for the portraits which were painted by black artists personally selected by the King. At one point Charles joked with Alford Gardner, who was a subject of one of the works, saying “it’s sometimes awful having to look at your own portrait”. Report by Matt Blair.

The King and Queen are so gracious and affable. Look at how they lit up everyone they spoke to.
Not so gracious to the Windrush generation. Or Grenfell and that happend in his manor. I bet od it was white upper class folks who got burnt out, then it would of been all hands on deck. Very impressive portraits. King Charles and Queen Camilla seem to be able to make people feel comfortable. I have always envied people who have the ease of conversation with others. It is a gift.
I like Charles so in tune with the people he's talking to. Very down to earth in a royal way.
In tune with the People, not the majority. He's not in touch with the majority far from it. I wonder how the elderly will fare when he implements a cashless society. When your in bed with the imf you will have to do their bidding.

I love this channel because even though I'm not a British subject, I was married to one for 30 years so very much consider myself half British and I learn so much history from these videos when I google the subject. Magnificient portraits!!
I like that we can hear the conversations with the people speaking to the King and Queen. It makes the Royals seem more real and more interesting. Charles has been more humorous and he is trying very hard to be relatable! Kudos!! 👍
King Charles III meeting the sitter, the portrait and the painter. He took note of the extent to which the painter painted the details of the sitter in the portrait. King Charles III knows about the patience one must have when sitting for a portrait. Now the Windrush sitters can be honored in Art and for him to acknowledge them is just stupendous 😀
Their Majesties continue to show deep interest in all whom they meet and all that they do. They are unfailing in their encouragement and personal inspiration. May God continue to guard, direct and cheer them.

@@ekanang7550 my volume is on full and still can't hear due to all the noise that's going on in the background at the engagements! Some of the videos they have the sound muted or the cameraman is videoing the ground as happened when the late Queen passed

I have no idea how to be that chatty in a very real and comfortable( yet you also see a lot of humor with KC III) way with complete strangers. It amazes me to see the king so aptly being kind, sincere, intelligent, funny and Yet still being the Monarch. All the RF have this remarkable gift, but here we see once again that besides The Queen, it is KC III that is a genuine author of class. He is indeed quite a good guy and a good king.

American here and I had never even heard of Windrush. Holy moly, I was amazed that this was actually recent.

I understand that 492 passengers arrived in 1948. I can see people seeking asylum or working or educating themselves abroad but to take up permanent residence & squeeze out the people who must reside especially in a small country (I'm trying to say it delicately) would seem dubious. Those questions like who am I, where do I belong should follow. Why must he have a painting of this size? I'm baffled. No harm intended.
