    When you cross a border into a different state it is very noticeable. Everything changes state to state as you enter. Driving across the USA is an awesome trip. Don’t judge USA by California because we are huge country with expansive spaces. Diversity within diverse places.

    • @jdanon203
      @jdanon203 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      No it's not lol. If you want to see different and very noticeable think of the countries she had to cross before getting her final flight. Crossing state lines is nothing. People still speak the same language, the money is the same, the roads are the same as are the stores, you don't need special adapter for electronics, etc. It's all mostly the same from state to state. OK maybe scenery is different but that is how it is almost everywhere on earth when you go from one region to another.

    • @beachbum77979
      @beachbum77979 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@jdanon203 In the US English is the predominant language, but there are interesting differences. I've noticed differences between south Texas and east Texas. Maine English seems quite a bit different than California, New York, Iowa...Taya would be able to understand and be understood, but the same? US dollars are accepted. That's true in several other countries as well. Roads are the same? There is uniformity concerning interstate highways but even those vary state to state. Back roads vary widely in my experience. There are national store brands but there are large regional differences especially in smaller towns. As a son of a beach, I grew up on seafood. There is not a single seafood restaurant closer than 30 miles (50 kilometers) of where I live now. No special electrical adapters needed when crossing state lines. Correct. It's not the kind of diversity we seek. "...It's all mostly the same from state to state..." Maybe your shallow view of you cell phone is equally boring wherever you are.

    welcome to the US. Something perhaps to keep in mind is that the US is *extremely* varied. Lifestyle can differ vastly from one zip code to another, from one state to another, and from one region to another. I live in New England; my life in a small town is about as different as your life in LA as I can imagine (I have a lot of family in greater LA so I don't say this casually). The one similarity is we all still need cars to get around... anyway, welcome, glad to see you here. Ask us, we will help you with anything.

    Welcome to California Taya! I have lived here since I was born so I know my state pretty well. Depending on where you are staying California can be very expensive. It's funny when you said gas was cheaper here, because in California it is $1 - $3 more expensive than the rest of the US. They say that California represents every kind of geography, from rugged coastlines, tropical beaches, deserts, snowcapped mountains, fields of grain, rain forests, to big cities we have it all. From the highest point in the contiguous United States (Mt. Whitney in the Sierras) to the lowest (Badwater Basin in Death Valley) only about 100 miles separate them. If you ever need any insight during your stay, feel free to ask.

    • @philip5940

      And once , if California was a separate country, it would have been the 6th most wealthy country. It's probably around somewhere the tenth today with countries like Indonesia, Korea Taiwan China having leaped ahead.

    • @Etereys
      @Etereys 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I've been living in north Georgia for the past 21 years. California gas prices have been a lot more than a $1-3 difference from here, at least during the Obama years, I recall. I don't know how much it is there right now, but I can say my gas for the past 2 weeks straight has been under $2.50, and continuing to go down each week still. And just a few years ago, before the current administration, it came within 5 cents of reaching the last 2002 price I remember, which was $1.19.

      California gasoline prices are generally higher and more variable than prices in other states because relatively few refineries produce California's unique blend of gasoline. California's reformulated gasoline program is more stringent than the federal government's program. #EnvironmentalStandards

    Taya, you need to understand that California has the highest cost of living in the entire US. I have two houses in the mountains north of LA and live permanently in Texas. I can tell you that the cost of living in Texas versus my life when in California is about 50% less in Texas. Fuel, utilities, groceries, basically everything is MUCH less expensive in Texas (and most of the rest of the US) than California.

      These states especially: California, Oregon, Washington, New York, Illinois - are dominated by major metropolis areas that are the stupidest places in the US these days. Is best to stay well away from them - or get well away from them.
      Things cost so much (California has some THE highest petrol prices in the US and they have huge electricity rate hikes that are soon going into effect) as due to deliberate political policies. Anything over priced, anything, Taya, that strikes you as really stupid, retro-grade, or even out right (and shockingly) degenerate - will be due to political policies brought about by these specific major metropolis areas.
      Because these areas dominate the ballot box at election time due to their population density, they screw up the entire states they are located in, as otherwise the rest of the areas of these states tend to be very reasonable - inclining toward being quite the opposite of the insanity found in their respective major cities.

A lot of laundry rooms in apartment/condo buildings now have a card that you insert in the machines and there is a machine on the wall where you add money to your card similar to adding money to a public transport card. Most apartments in USA have air conditioning, but yes many older buildings in places like new york city don't have it, so it's something you need to ask about before renting if it's important to you.

    Taya, Welcome to the madness! 😂 It looks like a Hollywood movie because the movies were often filmed right in that area. From a specific point in Beverly Hills, there is a "Thirty-Mile Zone" (a 30 mile, 48km, radius) which costs far less to make a film because Union rules increase the cost for their workers doing any work further away. As a result, you can recognize certain rock formations, and views after a while.

    Thank you for your impressions, and welcome to USA! There is a lot of stuff in Los Angeles County there, including, I think, NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab. I hope you are able to enjoy it.
    I'm glad you like some of our prices here! Sorry about the sunflower oil. I use it, too.
    I hope you are able to enjoy some of our national parks as well!
    Yeah, paying for laundry sucks. My own condo's machines went up to almost double quite recently, though not $2.50 (yet).
    Still, cost of living is different in different parts of the US. I live in Kentucky and enjoy a decent cost of living here.
    If you are in Louisville, Kentucky on the weekend of the First Saturday in May, you can enjoy the Kentucky Derby horse race that Saturday, and the day before on Friday, the Oaks race for filles takes place.
    In fact, our Jefferson County Public Schools had to make the Friday before Derby an in-service day (opportunity for continuing education for educators) because so many teachers used to take a vacation day then, and no substitute teachers could be reached.

    When I lived in LA I never used the building's washing machine because it would take me all day to get it done. Plus other people would jump in and use the machine so it was a mess. I used to go instead to a laundromat where I could use 10 machines at once and get it done in an hour or two. Also, LA is a big city and things change from one neighborhood to the next. Where you are is just typical of that section, but not of another. Some neighborhoods are newer and apartments offer central air, others are much older - maybe 100 years old, so you'll get ceiling fans and poor insulation instead. Enjoy your trip!

    Taya, California is a very expensive state. It also has more restrictive laws than any other state. You might want to visit Texas or Florida or Georgia. I hope you can visit those other states. I watch the Filipina Pea (from Philippines) and she also just visited the U.S. She went to the southern states, and she had nothing bad to say about any of the states she visited. Please don't judge the whole country by the worst state.

      Don’t listen to people disparage California. There is a reason it is the way it is. Most states in the US are great. Although, if you want a typical Ukrainian city experience, stick to big cities in the USA. If you want diversity and culture it is advisable to stay out of red states. Red states under fund their education and want to keep the population uneducated and ignorant.

    Welcome to America! I spent a bunch of time growing up in Germany, so I really feel you about the car culture here. Americans are crazy loud with very little concern about their neighbors. You might be able to find better prices for food at farmers markets. I find it odd that you find things here feel old. America has only been around for 200 years or so, Europe has much older buildings. Granted, in the US we aren't maintaining anything, we just let if all apart and developers come in and build something new. Good luck on your latest adventure.

      @@SpringIsBACK spent time in Bangkok were everyone is using their horn all the time. The US is devolving in general, thanks to not doing anything about supporting infrastructure, or you know a livable wage, or human rights, blaming it on just the cities is huge part of the problem as it's the nonurbanites who are leaning hard toward authoritarianism as long as they get to pick 'em.

    You’re channel is always a really lovely respite to keep up engagement with our Ukrainian brothers and sisters with a bit of fun and adventure. We all need that. Yes, California has a very high level of income disparity. Everything costs more, but every job pays more. It’s the kind of place where walking down one street can turn from dark alleyways into mansions and where old out of date buildings run into ultra modern ones just a mile away. It is very much a mixing pot of all cultures and therefore you get a mixed bag in every other way. The more you travel there, or live there the more diverse you realize it is. There just really isn’t a consistent set of rules, but yes it is extremely expensive for the most part. You did pick potentially the most beautiful state to visit. Although it’s landscapes vary widely if you’re looking for beauty? Personally I would say it’s the most scenic place in the country. It’s also quite vast so getting to the cool places can be kind of a long trip. It’s very cool to hear all your opinions and experiences. I know there are alot of Ukrainians who live in the US, but I rarely get to hear what they think. I hope you share more of your trip.

    Welcome to USA Taya ! I wish you would get a part on a tv sit com ( situation comedy ) . You're pretty , you're funny ( especially sarcasm ) : ) and you can sing .
    Take a walk on the beach or out on a pier or sit on a cliff and just watch and listen to the waves crashing in ( that's free ). It will wash any blues away , even if it's temporary. You should take a little drive down to Laguna Beach 🌴, you can walk that town . Also going up to Santa Barbara would be fun .
    Are any other states on your travel itinerary ? May be a trip to the Big Apple ( NYC ) . None of those places are cheap , but you only live once . Safe travels and may the road be kind . I hope you get to realize one of your dreams 🎶 You would be a good investment . ❤

And you can visit places like Disney World, Universal studios, etc.

      Florida? I wouldn't encourage any Ukrainian to move to Florida, where right-wingers don't want the U.S. to help Ukraine fight against RuZFed. NYC is the capital of Ukrainian-American culture. There is even a town in Ukraine, named after New York. TRUE! ....Although there are many Russians in NYC as well, Russians LOVE Florida.... Especially Sunny Isles. -"Little Moscow". Please don't encourage her to go where she will be dis-respected.

    Taya,
    Please be careful. I have not been in Hollywood for a long time, but I know it is a high crime area. I once met someone who lived there, and he said his car was broken into four times ! I have lived in at least six places in the US during my 60 plus year life and never had my car broken into. The reason why you see so many old buildings without up to date facilities including laundries, is that owners do not want to invest their money in such a poor area. The people you are meeting are also most likely poorer and do not use modern technology as most do now,
    Hollywood is not representative of the US at all.
    Best wishes !

    I have some information for you. (Or good news) Where you picked is not average. Even Northern California is a lot different than southern CA. There are also rich or poor areas everywhere. Now remember that the United states are 50 different states. You will also see changes with each state. Not everything looks the same everywhere. Even the people are very different as you move around the country. I lived in the bay area in Northern California for many years and every apartmentment I lived in was neat and clean as well as modern. My places all had its own washer and dryer. the complex has a pool, hot-tub, work out room, underground parking. I lived in safe locked gated communities. Close access to movie theaters, gas stations, grocery stores (Big ones with great and fresh selection) All kinds of different restaurants, Nice parks, great friendly people. Fast internet and good cable tv. Outdoor patio of deck where you could BBQ. I loved everything. Sorry for you that you saw that dirty little area first. I wish you the best here and hope you find a better place. High crime also tends to go with dirty or cheap areas. I would move north to the Bay Area.
