Is there a way to edit in a close-up of the label so we can get a better idea of what you’re showing us. It would help us watching the videos to know what we’re looking for, just a thought. Thanks, I look forward to all your videos. Thank you for all you do. Cheers.
They would be well served with a secondary camera focused in on the bottles for sure. That would mean more edit work for Trenton so it's probably a no go😂
If you are on an iPhone, you can zoom the video.
Otherwise I am not sure what to do.
@txrazor2643 so only piece of shit iPhones can zoom in on a video?
@@txrazor2643that's not an iPhone feature, it's a TH-cam feature on mobile.
Try increasing the video quality, pause the video, then pinch to zoom on the label. They usually aren't in focus, but good enough to see. Heck, often times it's the bottles are on shelf in the back that are in focus and not the guys. 😂
Whiskey Acres is based out of DeKalb, IL. They started off as a farm and started a distillery there more recently. They are a farm to glass distillery, meaning all of the grains used to make their whiskey are grown on their farm.
Blue Popcorn bourbon is a limited release made from an heirloom variety of corn called blue popcorn, and yes, the kernels are blue. They experiment with a lot of other heirloom corn varieties as well and release them as limited releases when they're ready. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the Blue Popcorn bourbon, but I did like their Bloody Butcher bourbon and Glass Gem Corn Bourbon. They recently were able to release their first age stated bourbon at 7 years too, so they're making progress. They make a killer rye too, if you can find one at cask strength. I'm still waiting for them to release their oaxacan green corn bourbon. That one should be interesting.
I love their Artisan Series aged in Maple Syrup Casks. To me it's a Decadence killer because it's around 115 proof, rather than 90 that Decadence is released with. I prefer it over Decadence.
@@MWA91 I've never had Widow Jane Decadence, but I'm not a huge fan of the Whiskey Acres Maple Cask. To me, it just tastes like they're trying to cover up a young bourbon with maple syrup. It's been a while since I had any, but I remember it tasting like astringent maple syrup, which doesn't really strike me as a quality whiskey. More like flavored grain alcohol.
We live about 20 minutes from Whiskey Acres and really like several of there bourbons-I really enjoy that blue popcorn as well! Nice to see a small local label represented
Ben Holladay is great. Their rickhouse proof, single barrels, and BIB’s are all really good. Whiskey Acres is another great. That Blue Popcorn is delicious. Try their Bloody Butcher bourbon. A very tasty treat. Their BIB is also very good. Doing great things with heirloom varieties of corn.
You guys should do a meet up at whiskey acres in Dekalb. Been there several times as I love close by and it’s a great spot to hangout. They offer you’re and samplings as well.
Old scout single barrel Rye is AMAZING
It’s the best! Their bourbon is great too
Happy Monday! Ben Holladay is just about all I hear about in a couple of bourbon groups, haha.
I'm probably one of the ones that keep posting about it. Lol.

Whiskey Acres is some solid stuff. They also do the Bloody Butcher red corn that is fantastic as well. Love the uniqueness of their stuff. It’s like nothing else.
Whiskey Acres does some really good stuff. Their facility is really nice too.
Whiskey Acres is in Dekalb, IL and is about 35 minutes south of me. The Blue Popcorn is an annual release, along with the Bloody Butcher Corn Bourbon. Very good. Glenns Creek is in the previous Old Crow Distillery. Love the OCD#5 and SWHEAT offerings. 🥃
Whiskey Acres have some good bottles. Blue Popcorn is good and they have a maple cask bourbon that is great.
The Makers 101! That’s the one I told you, you need to blind next to Antique 107. They’re so similar! For me, it’s beaten Antique 107 in 3 different blinds. Phenomenal pour, especially for the price. Cheers 🥃
I prefer Maker's 101 to the cask strength...it's a great bottle!
Love that you're showing more Maker's Mark, I had the 101 myself tonight. Now, Whiskey Acres, you guys are really missing out, and it's such a reasonable drive for you. They're an hour west of Chicago on I-88 and available at stores all around Chicagoland. They were taught by the Maker's Mark master distiller, their still is from Kentucky, and here's the thing, everything in that bottle comes from the property. The corn, the barley, the wheat, the yeast, and the limestone water, everything. No other distillery does this, to my knowledge anyway. Everything from their own farm. My favorite regular product is the Bottled in Bond, it's corn forward, and gives you this magical sweet cornbread taste in an old fashioned, and it's only $42. Somebody did you a huge favor giving you that Blue Popcorn, it's one of my favorites. That's a $70 bottle. It's available one day a year, that day is in December, and you most likely have to go to the distillery to get it as few stores get it and they get like one or two cases. I got the absolute last bottle they sold in 2023 and I am so thankful. Whenever you are in the Chicago are make sure you pick up something from Whiskey Acres and maybe stop by the distillery some day.
Ben Holladay is by far my favorite bottle that I own. Highly recommend the rickhouse soft red wheat. Or if you can find it, a store pick. They are normally rickhouse proof.
Holladay is great, I talk about it a lot. Just got to Texas not too long ago and it's getting some traction
Love whiskey acres artisan finished in maple syrup barrels. Normally I don’t care for the sweet stuff but because it’s around 115 proof it blends amazingly well. Think even Fred might’ve had this ranked very high a couple years ago
They’re pricey, but if you can find some of the Old Scout from 2013-2015 era (the stuff that made them famous), you’ll be in for a treat
The Ben Holladay was a surprise on this list 'cos it seems to be much discussed! I have the Rickhouse Proof Soft Red Wheat open at the moment and it is delicious! I have a couple of store picks of their regular bourbon. They are cask strength. Haven't seen any store picks of the SRW yet.
Smooth Ambler is the best! Been to their distillery and they’ve got some good juice!
Last night `The Bourbon Judge` did a piece on Glenn`s Creek Distillery extolling the virtues of their products including OCD 5 & Cafe Ole. Hopefully with this they will get some love because their juice sounds terrific & it`s always nice to promote small business where waranted. Btw, I`ve been drinking Dickel 15 & I get chocolate all day & the price for it was exceptional.
I watched that show! Glad Judge jumped on the GC train!
I seen that video by The Bourbon Judge” He gave quite a n in-depth review. 👍😎
Another vote for Whiskey Acres - the Blue Popcorn release tastes just like movie theater popcorn….incredible! Should try more of their offerings, top notch craft distiller.
Yay! Much love to Whiskey Acres, just a short drive south of here. They are doing some really great things down on the farm!
I believe Whiskey Acres is only distributed in Illinois. That was their plan originally, but perhaps that changed. I did a barrel pick there and it was great fun and really pleased with our pick.
I’ll be at Glenn’s Creek on Saturday! Can’t wait!
I have and enjoy both Cafe Ole and MM101. The totally unexpected thing about Cafe Ole is that for me, a strawberry note appears on the tail end of the finish, complementing the chocolate note. I think it’s an immensely enjoyable pour for the price.
I have a barrel pick Old Scout at 59.4 abv. I really enjoy it, and get a really sweet buttered popcorn note from it. You have to look for that note in a standard Old Scout, but it's there, and I enjoy it as well.
One of my favorite bottles!
I love Ben Holladay. We have the BiB only in AL but was about to get the Rickhouse Small batch reserve and love it. Another Patreon I am in has both a Rickhouse SRW and regular Rickhouse coming out
Whiskey Acres is close enough to you guys, you should check out their facility. Also when discussing it Trenton please include the 'L' in DeKalb. LOL. Nice video!
For the people with Woodman's grocery store you can find glens creek there. Wisconsin and Illinois
Have an Old Scout single barrel rye that I really enjoy. Lucked out and snagged a Bare Knuckle SiB Cask Strength on clearance for half off, been waiting to crack it but now I have to
The Halloday bottle is great.
I have an Old Scout I picked up a few years ago distilled in Indiana, 6 years old, bottled by Kayla
Lived in Bettendorf for a while. Now I’m 5 minutes away in Moline. I’ll have to check them out.
I have Bare Knuckle single barrel rye…distilled by them. Really tasty. It’s my favorite of their entire line. The single barrels used to be had at the local ABC store in VA. Haven’t seen one in a while. I’ll expect to visit the distillery in a few weeks. I’ll report what they have there.
Smooth Ambler is outstanding and I always have a couple bottle backups in case word gets out.
Agreed!
I recently did a tasting of many MM versions (regular MM, MM46, MM101, MMCS, BRT-02, and a store pick with the mocha stave) and I must say that the last 2 (limited releases) are the only ones that I REALLY liked neat. The 46 was good/ok neat, but the rest seem more like mixers to me. Just my take.
Cheers. Picked up a Soft Red Wheat BiB among others recently.
The KO Distiller's Reserve is quite good. Made in VA. I think the Bare Knuckles are now distilled in VA too.
We visited Glenn's Creek.... the guy is a story teller.... very small building!!! He's a "former" moonshiner!!!
I am a former "moonshiner" although I don't see myself as one since I was not trying to make a living doing it. If doing it at home it is moonshine to the government.
Seems like Brewzle is always either talking about Ben Holiday or showing it in his liquor store shopping videos. Have seen other channels mention it too. May have to try it some time.
everything whiskey acres puts out is amazing ....
All the Ben Holladays are awesome!!
I really enjoy the makers 101. Definitely can’t go wrong with that one.
Need a SLB shirt, “but in a good way”
Ben Holloday BiB bourbon and Soft Red Wheat BiB have just arrived at my local store. Bought the Wheat, but haven't cracked it open yet.
Nothing like starting my Monday morning with coffee and a bourbon review of affordable for retired guys bourbons....all of which will be not available in NC or Allocated! Loved this theme, do another one! Thanks!
Ben Holladay product is amazing.
That Maker's 101 is awesome! Way under rated, it is one of the best 100 (ish) proof bottles out the. Great video, thanks.
These are great suggestions. I’ll definitely hit Glenn’s Creek when we’re there for KBF. Sounds like my kind of place. I’ve really enjoyed finding the out of the way craft distillers - MB Roland being my favorite (they have some amazing single barrels) and Casey Jones being a close second. There is so much good stuff out there - no need to only chase tater juice!
Maybe you could do a Blue Corn blind ? I don't think I've ever had a bad one - Still Austin and Balcones both make some as does Woodhat & Bluegrass....
Yep I hear about Ben Holiday often. May have to grab a bottle
I like to keep a lineup of mixers on my shelf that I also think are good sippers on their own. Maker's 101 is a staple! Good lineup. And that Blue Popcorn is a very interesting pour. I'm enjoying it.
I hope it is all bottom shelf bourbons fir March Madness
Huge shout out to KO Distillery! They're a great distillery run by some great people!
I'm in Texas, and I've seen that bareknuckle on the shelf of my store, and now i may get a bottle. Thanks for the reviews. 🎉
Would love to see the information a description of the bottles tasted. Would make it much easier when heading off to the local stores to find the bottles. Great job gentlemen on the video and as always thanks for the Channel's content and for the hard work.
Agree, that Bare Knuckle is really good!
No worries, Trent ... my mom had refrigerator magnets shaped like fruit and my brother tried to eat most of those ... all of them had teeth marks on them...........I enjoy the local distillers/bottlers here in Georgia quite a bit, though most of them are not getting the publicity that 13th Colony is. Short Barrel is similar to Barrel in that they do a fine job blending whiskey (I just got a store pick of theirs which is double barreled and its top notch), RM Rose recently released a wheated barrel proof that I really like too. You already know about ASW.
For the Dickel BiB, the 13 Year distilled in Fall 2008 was the best of the ones I've had.
After seeing on some list I picked up a Dickel 13 yr BiB and must admit I wasn't a fan. It was from spring 2007. If you know, was the 2008 that much better?
@@jeffnuzz I didnt get any minerality on Fall 2008. I can reply with my notes when I get a chance to get them out later today
@@MISTERLOLCRACKERS Thanks. Notes not really necessary but I was just wondering if you had the 2007 as well and how it compared to 2008.
@@jeffnuzzI also have the Fall 2008 (love it) and haven't tried the Spring 2007, but from what I've read, the 2008 is superior
Here in NE Nebraska the only bottle I have found in this lineup is Makers Mark 101.
Great bottle lineup. That blue popcorn sounds interesting.
Have you guys tried Responder Bourbon? It’s a Bardstown product. I would ship you a bottle for review if I knew how to get it to you. Responder Bourbon was founded by a group of police officers and business owners and portions of proceeds go toward the families of police fire and EMS. It was released in 2022 I believe. They have two Responders a 10-41 and a 10-8. Those are police codes for those that don’t know four on duty, and back in service.
Just checked them out, but they are not available in my area. Their online seller doesn't have both of them.
That Nassif Family reserve is a fantastic Blend. Has bourbon, rye and light whiskey blended together. Love my bottle.
@SLB Drinks - love Smooth Ambler products, especially the taller bottle of their older products!
Ben Holliday, Glenn’s Creek, Driftless Glen and Cedar Ridge are my favorite distilleries.
It’s DeKaLb not Decob 😂. And you might consider checking out their rye as well. It’s fantastic
I love the Cafe Ole. nothing else like it
I think that Ben Holladay's is the best on the table. I just enjoy the complete balance that BH brings.
absolutely great intro, thanks for leaving that in!
Glad to see the Cat’s Eye shoutout. They’re fantastic.
Love shows like this, great episode guys keep these coming.
🔵🍿- Whiskey Acres- It’s that good, see you December 1!
I have the Soft Red Wheat BIB it has a little bit of a funk note and little sweetness but hasn’t really settled on my palate.
Makers 101 is good, also love Maker 46 Cask Strength. Glad to see the Glenns Creek pick. Just visited them this weekend and its a great team down there and I bought their OCD #5 and Cuervito Vivo. Already have a couple three Cafe Oles. I think Glenns Creek is the BEST craft distiller today. Only 5 employees as of Saturday!
I love Nassif Family reserve, although can usually only find the rum. It too is 107 proof and it’s a butterscotch bomb, so good. Glens Creek is a great visit with Dave and some great bourbon. I love his Cuervito Vivo.
I saw this last night and had seen Bare Knuckle on our shelves, but had never tried any of them. I looked this bottle up on the VA ABC site and saw that the same bottle you are talking about is on closeout here at 50% off. I just stopped in and picked up the last two on the shelf $30.09. Talking to the guy working there I mentioned that I had seen your video, and he said someone else came in last night and said the same thing and got some too. Going to crack one open tonight.
Once again,,, you guys are doin it right!! Thanks for the great content and giving us some Great choices to be on the lookout for!! Keep these coming!!👊👍🥃🥃
KO Distilling Bare Knuckle is incredible and has been a personal favorite for a couple of years...Not sure about the bottle you guys have, but 15 series barrels are MGP aged in Kelvin Cooperage barrels and are absolutely superb...the 16 series barrels use ISC barrels and are still good, but it don't hold a candle to the whiskey from the Kelvin barrels!!!
Great insight. I just grabbed a bottle yesterday 131 proof, before I saw your comment. Just checked the bottle and it's barrel 15-009. I have had other MGP aged in Kelvin barrels and they have been great, so very excited that this one looks to be as well.
@@Jgon916 Yeah, I don't know if Kelvin sprinkles their barrels with fairy dust or what, but they are magical and produce some incredible rich flavors!
Enjoy!
Another Iowa connection! Glad to hear it.
I just got Hard Truth Wheated Bourbon. Its a great bourbon. Thanks guys for the review
I watched the secret santa live broadcast and I believe Patricia sent Kurt the Whiskey Acres Blue Popcorn and Kurt seemed impressed, so I went out and mail ordered some. It is real good!
It was me that sent him the blind.
Thanks Patricia. Sorry I got mixed up. Good stuff btw 😊
I edited my post.
GUYS, WAKE UP, SLB JUST DROPPED 🔥
I've been drinking those Bare Knuckle for a couple of years now - one of the best hidden gems around. Have tried multiple different barrels and have only run across one that was just "good" (all of the others were outstanding)
The BHSRWR is a fine pour. I think that’s the only one of these I own or have tried. You can miss me with the Dickel anything.
I've gone through several bottles of Old Scout owner's picks and each has been damned good, and good bang for the buck.
Bluegrass Distillery in Lexington KY has a fantastic blue corn bourbon as well
I picked up an Old Scout pick at Binny's and really didn't care for it. Finding out it's from Dickel makes sense to me as I've never taken to that profile.
Could you maybe do a video for beginners something like 5 various whiskeys you should try before concluding you dont like whiskey?
Thanks for sharing the lineup. Will be on the lookout for a couple of them.
big fan for a while. I would love to know what camera/mic SLB use for their videos.
More bottles to add to my only drams wish list....seems to be growing lately. $$$$
Great Show Guys, I look forward to trying these if I can find it. Or one of our SLB friends help me out. I like these type of shows I like it !
Best intro ever!!
Let's not lose sight of the fact that 70 bucks is ALOT of money for a bottle of booze.
Facts 😂
let's not lose sight of the fact that if you want anything beyond a well pour bottom shelf bs, this is the reality of the industry nowdays
It's still better than paying the secondary prices for hype bottles.
Noooooooo, not at alllllll
@@jeremymcbride who fucking cares he said 70 is a lot and for most people is it.. like LOL 😆
You need to hit up the whiskey acres rye. It’s out of this world
Similar to this topic and somewhat contradictory in trying to expose good whiskey that is available, but have you ever considered a show highlighting whiskeys from small distilleries that are not distributed/only available at the distillery? This would be more about acquisition though tourism or exposing local distilleries that people are unaware of. 2 Loons Distillery in my area makes some very good whiskeys but small operation with zero distribution, I'm drinking their new rye release now.
I love old scout
Trenton always be pulling things out of his basement! He's a regular basement puller guy. Hahaha
I would really appreciate if you included some information on the states of distribution for some of these bottles if available. Some of the bottles everyone says keep an eye out for are only in like a handful of states
