So, I think the biggest problem is that it's NOT early access, which is where most of the negativity is stemming from - it came out as a "finished" product. I personally think it's playable. However, I'll also add that I lost two complete runs to the problems, and that was a little less than two hours of my life. The converse is that you might grab the game, and wind up hitting bugs more often than I did, and at that point I'd feel really bad telling you it was playable. I think it's playable, I just can't know whether or not you or anyone else would have the same experience.
Honestly the game isn't really buggy. It's more like it's not polished. Edmund is the kind of guy who like to have unbaked cookie dough in his cookies, meaning the game is good, but you might have some egg shells in the cookie. Super Meat Boy had to made without certain bosses. BoI was extremely buggy. Rebirth had you go through gated walls when you have fly. And every expansion has a lot of complaints. It's pretty much Edmunds MO. I would say if you don't like that in his games, just wait a bit. I think Edmund is a good ideas guy, but has never been a good UX or UI guy and definitely not a immediately great on bug testing. Case in point, in BoI, Issac use to be blah tier, and now hes pretty much your go to guy. Even The Lost is a fun play now. And Samson... sucks now....
@@misterfour8233 I'm glad you added this in as a probably more up to date take on the game. I'm not sure if you played on day 1/2 though, and maybe you didn't experience what I or others did at the time. The reality is, when the game was released, it was buggy. It wasn't lack of polish. Soft locks existed that just completely wiped your runs. Sound effects didn't play on the screen in-between levels. There were lots of other things too. However, a lot, if not all of these have already been addressed, and your comment probably paints a more accurate picture of the current games state. I just wanted to add context here for when this comment was posted.
@@JustinMyOpinion I played on day 2 I think. But yeah, I remember rebirth's bugginess and that with a team of people. Ed does this with every game. For some reason, day 1 and 2 is horrible for his games. I am research coder, so I can kinda relate to Ed's state of mind to consumer expectation. Game dev is kinda like piano playing, mess up 5 keys or so and the song is completely ruined. Same with this game. What he sees as 5 keys in his game ends up ruining the experience completely. I guess my point is if he fixed so much in two days, even if he worked all 48 hours, imagine how buggy the game was before release.
Bumbo the Dead isn't bad - at least in my experience. While it was clear there was potential for some absolutely killer runs, it just felt like Bumbo the Dead was still a notch down from the best but clearly still better than the rest. I felt like I just couldn't get Bumbo the Dead to be as consistent. That's all.
Im watching this coz I read the reviews that said there were bugs ik it’s early access but wanted to see if it’s playable

JustinMyOpinion oh I’ll just refund it if it’s too buggy

Eh. Bumbo the Dead is really good too. You just need to think when to do skills or not.
