  • This was actually a pretty decent game for a while. Jets defense gave Chicago all it wanted. But the Bears defense was just too much.

Marvin Powell #79, Offensive Right Tackle of the Jets, had a superb game this day.

He sometimes got lost in the shuffle but Matt Suhey could have been the number one running back on a lot of other teams. But he certainly was a valuable player on this Bears team, even if he was always in Payton's shadow.

Suhey was good as a fullback, but you underestimate the Sweetness effect. A big reason why Suhey got the yardage he did was because defenses were keying on Walter Payton.
This is the main reason Payton never got a touchdown in SB XX.
Suhey wasn't in Payton's shadow, he was basking in Payton's aura. After Walter retired, Matt only got another 100 carries in his career, despite being 4 years younger and having only 20% of the carries of Walter. Suhey was a great #2 and friend to Payton, carrying on to be a Payton family friend and executor of Walter's estate.

Suhey would have not been a number one back on another team he was a true fullback who got carries but that’s it

Ummm, no. Suhey was a very good, and most importantly, very versatile fullback. Would _never_ have been a starting halfback on _any_ NFL team.

I can tell that this was recorded from the CBS affiliate in Chicago because the picture was always pale. I have several other versions of this game on DVD and they are more colorful.

3:07 The late Dave Duerson reads the receiver's eyes & prevents a TD.
Jets blew their shot at a rematch, by losing six turnovers in their Wildcard loss to the Patriots.
What's interesting, is the Jets committed the fewest regular-season turnovers, 29.
The Bears tied for 3rd fewest with Denver, 33.

The NY Jets & Miami Dolphins were the toughest teams the Bears faced. Even with all of O'Brien's fumbles the offensive did run the ball well & moved it against the Bears defense. But can we talk about the NY Jets defense? Time and time again holding the Bears after so many turnovers. If the NY Jets had only drafted Dan Marino the NY Jets would have won a superbowl 85-88. Love the NY Jets uniforms bring them back. All BS aside Joe Klecko & Mark Gastineau should be in the Hall of Fame.

The interesting thing is I believe the Jets would’ve defeated the Redskins in Super Bowl 17. That stunt Shula pulled with muddy field was shameful but the NFL let him get away with it. As a Giants fan we put together those two super bowl years😀 but the Jets suffered some unfortunate breaks because they had some good squads in the 80’s.
