  • Below is a link to a Dropbox Excel Spread Sheet, to make it easier to determine Shim Size Calculation, For Gear lash, if you are swapping/replacing your 660 Case, Bearing Housing or gears;
& you find that some parts are MISSING Stamps or markings!
Have patience, When I made this video, it was like 3 or 4 months AFTER I did the calculation, I was trying to remember the process and convey that on my video. Some may manually write this out on paper & have their own ways, of finding the shim sizes to order,
But this is just an extra tool to make it easier for some. (maybe cleaner, if you ever saw my note scribbling, crossing out big mess on my 1st attempt at this process) to determine your calculation for Shim sizes.
Sign up for a free Dropbox account to access, where you can download Excel Doc to your PC and edit with your own #'s to find your calculation.
After you open, click "Open" Drop down menu & choose "Excel for the web" This will open the Doc to edit. You can change out my numbers in the calculation. (some of the equations use Excel to total.
Others have a note that I used a calculator and manually input the total)
If you only have one missing stamp, this method will give you the exact missing # for your part.
If there are 2 missing stamps, (like what happened to me) you will have to split the difference between the two parts.. But it should still allow you to find the assumed shim size necessary to order.
(I would advise doing using the Gear lash paste methods or Dial indicator methods for final check of Lash as well)
For this calculation to work, you 1st need to measure your original shims from your old case.
(This is the part of calculation NOT in the Service Manual)
Then Start doing calculation with using a "0" in your calculation, for the "missing stamp" part(s).
(you can see this in the examples in my spread sheet as "old case" to determine the #'s I needed for the eventual "New" case)
Then determine what # you need your parts to be.. in your calculation to reach your old case shim sizes!
If it is only one missing stamp, you have your #! It Should be exact. mark your part #, with a marker pen.
If it is 2 parts, missing #'s? then split the difference between the 2 parts.. you have your "assumed" Numbers.
Now when you do the calculation for the New case..
use the new numbers on your parts, enter the "new Case" stamps, Mine are (64.95 1.71 & 97.27)
and you should have the shim size to order!
(Maybe order a couple extra? To have on hand for manual gear lash paste & or dial indicator test)
Hope it works for someone?.. let me know if you see any errors in my spread sheet. or success to. (Here is link, you need Excel program to edit for your calculation)

I Included this link as PDF as well, for those who want to see it or print it, but this can NOT be edited like the above Dropbox version can.
