He went from cop into private sector willingly, "i never asked for this" is a response to a question that amounts to "Do you feel good about the fact that you are now Robocop?". Plus despite the fact that this line was in every trailer it wasn't an automatic line, at the players discretion you could also go with "it felt pretty good" or the neutral "i'm still getting used to it, but the extra abilities did come in handy". Jensen isn't necessarily a downer if you don't want him to be.
Not every hero (or anti-hero) puts that down on their dream careers list. However, in the end, this lot didn't really have a choice. Here are some careers that had to end so someone could save the day (or at least assassinate a lot of people).

Darksiders your job as a horseman of the apocalypse got a little screwed over. Dishonored starts you off as a bodyguard Dante's Inferno you're not exactly going on any crusades anymore. Ratchet from Ratchet and Clank was originally a mechanic. I could go on, but you should totally make a follow up fan video.

The Warden in Dragon Age Origins? No matter what background you choose there's a series of unfortunate events that will eventually make you get recruited into the Grey Wardens, even Alistair was supposed to be a Templar. Almost every Earthrealm character from Mortal Kombat, Johnny Cage went from an action movie star to full time defender of Earthrealm, Kabal and Stryker were cops, Sonya and Jax were Special Forces, Scorpion was just the Grandmaster of the Shirai-Ryu until Quan Chi killed him, his entire family and clan then he eventually became a spectre of the Netherrealm. The only Earthrealm warriors who were meant to be there it seems is Liu Kang and Kung Lao.

Dragon Age Inquisition. You start out as just your average person. And then, all of a sudden, you end up a messenger of a goddess and, like, Pope or something. And the single most powerful person in the world.
What about Corvo Attano? He had a sweet gig where he was the Royal Protector, even getting frisky with the Empress and at her plot related things. Then the events of the first Dishonoured happen and all of that is taken away, and he goes all Bryan Mills on the bad guys using a particular set of skills (given by a mysterious magic man from another dimension) to save his daughter /future Empress.
How about Jude from Tales of Xillia, he was training to be a doctor, but got caught up with someone committing a crime and became a wanted criminal, going on to help a deity destroy weird cannons.

Every time that pesky destiny of his pokes its head 'round the door, it's always interrupting whatever nice quiet life he'd had planned -- whether that's a goat-wrangling ranch hand in Twilight Princess, an aspiring guardsman in Skyward Sword, a railway engineer in Spirit Tracks, or just a semi-professional layabout and/or amateur pictographer as seen in Wind Waker and others. (We'll just have to see about Breath of the Wild, though *that* Link's already got the napping skills down -- even Wind Waker Link never managed a century-long snooze.)

Probably a few others I'm not remembering. Tidus from Final Fantasy X. Went from Blitzball star player to guarding a Summoner and saving the world. Lightning Farron from Final Fantasy XIII. went from Lieutenant in the Guardian Corps, to Pulse l'Cie opposing the mass sacrifice of Cocoon's people, to guardian of the throne of Etro, to saviour of humanity's souls.
What about every RPG protagonist ever? Specifically the main characters in the Persona games. They just want to live a normal life and finish High School. Not have to fight monsters on a nightly basis.
These people still had a far more coherent, straight-forward career path than I do. I had been an animal shelter receptionist(age 15-17), wildlife center organizer/animal care giver (age 22-25), retailer seller (as personal seller age 20- still am), substitute teacher (age 28- and still am as part-time), education assistant (throughout my 20s and currently still assisting individuals with their college assignments), Medical Biller/Coder (2012-2015), Paraprofessional for PVK program (2019- currently still), and currently figuring out how to obtain a certification in Funerary Director. Not bad for someone who only been around for 38 years with a list of disabilities and disorders (that is why I have very little patience for normal people who haven't done anything with themselves). I know people who are twice my age without disabilities and disorders who haven't even done half as much as I have when it comes to listing their occupations.

How about Jude from Tales of Xillia, he was training to be a doctor, but got caught up with someone committing a crime and became a wanted criminal, going on to help a deity destroy weird cannons.

What about Link from the Legend of Zelda series? Every time that pesky destiny of his pokes its head 'round the door, it's always interrupting whatever nice quiet life he'd had planned -- whether that's a goat-wrangling ranch hand in Twilight Princess, an aspiring guardsman in Skyward Sword, a railway engineer in Spirit Tracks, or just a semi-professional layabout and/or amateur pictographer as seen in Wind Waker and others. (We'll just have to see about Breath of the Wild, though *that* Link's already got the napping skills down -- even Wind Waker Link never managed a century-long snooze.)

What about every RPG protagonist ever? Specifically the main characters in the Persona games. They just want to live a normal life and finish High School. Not have to fight monsters on a nightly basis.
These people still had a far more coherent, straight-forward career path than I do. I had been an animal shelter receptionist(age 15-17), wildlife center organizer/animal care giver (age 22-25), retailer seller (as personal seller age 20- still am), substitute teacher (age 28- and still am as part-time), education assistant (throughout my 20s and currently still assisting individuals with their college assignments), Medical Biller/Coder (2012-2015), Paraprofessional for PVK program (2019- currently still), and currently figuring out how to obtain a certification in Funerary Director. Not bad for someone who only been around for 38 years with a list of disabilities and disorders (that is why I have very little patience for normal people who haven't done anything with themselves). I know people who are twice my age without disabilities and disorders who haven't even done half as much as I have when it comes to listing their occupations.

In many Zelda games, Link starts out having a different job before becoming a hero. Twilight Princess he was a wrangler, Skyward Sword he was training to become a Knight, A Link Between Worlds he was a blacksmith's apprentice, and in Spirit Tracks he was the Royal Engineer. But for some reason he's always conveniently born 9-18 years before shit hit's the fan, and he always happens to be the most suitable person for taking down the bad guy.
