    I just ordered the Abigail bundled with the VE Monk Plus. I'm just waiting for it to arrive. It's much cheaper than the Pro version, which is why I bought it. Based on your review, the difference isn't that massive anyway. This will be my second DAC since my CX Pro broke after almost a year of heavy daily usage, lol.

    I have been meaning to write a rave about this but always forget. Thanks for this reco Andy. I have FC6 and iBasso (both on your reccos and adore the fc6), and use them primarily but this gem is still the best for when iam literally on the move. The usb c stays in. Never gets dislodged finicky unlike the other dongles which are pretty sensitive. I can switch to others at end of commute/walks. And the sound is v decent, price is great. Best second dongle ever! I have both the 3.5 amd 4.4, it even runs my over the ear cans off phone. Most impressive is that secure usb connection. Thanks Andy!

      @@AndyAudioVault so true. And adding in case anyone looks at my comment and thinks of these are just for temporary commute kind of use. No, they are pretty pretty decent actually. Just that I have got so used to the "analogue' soundscape of hiby fc6 that I keep reaching out for it. Else, I can happily continue with Abigail pros. Not an issue at all.

    Copy-pasta from your KZ AM01 quick review, same question: Hey Andy, great review! Can I ask a question? On the specs of many dac/dongles on amazon, it says that phone calls through the device might not work if the device already has a 3.5mm (which is my case, having a Samsung A52), as if the device tries to force the call through the 3.5mm port instead of whatever is connected to the Usb C slot. Did you test if this is also the case on the Abigail Pro? Or if the Abigail dongle fully supports calls on android using iems with inline microphones, also on devices that already have a 3.5mm output?
    If this works correctly (being able to answer the occasional call hands-free while listening to music on-the-go on an android device is sooo convenient), I might grab a couple for me and the wifey : )

      @AndyAudioVault  ปีที่แล้ว

      Between Abigail and CX-Pro, it is very close because they are essentially the same DAC internally, the refinement Abigail offer is subtle because 31993 is already a great DAC. Abigail Pro offers a bit more of the same improvements. But what I am trying to say is not to set expectations that the improvements will be like day and night. to answer your question, Abigail Pro has smoother transients compared to the sharper presentation of CX-Pro. If you looking for substantial upgrade, I recommend iBasso DC03Pro or VE Megatron, both of which can be had for no more than $60

      You probably need something more colored and thick sounding DAC. Changing to Abigail will be even flatter because Abigail is faithfully neutral and uncolored. You may want to consider getting something like A&K PEE51 or Tempotec Sonata E44, or just play with EQ is you need more juice

      @@AndyAudioVault This comment confuses me. The reviews I've read/seen say 71 is smooth sounding, but here you say it's sharper! Does sharper resolution not necessarily mean sharper treble? I kinda feel lost in all the audiophile vocabulary, haha. I'm treble-sensitive, so I've been looking for something that'll smoothen the sharper sounds without losing much clarity. I thought I had found one in Ikko ITM02, but you haven't reviewed it yet, so I've been holding back on it.

      @@vishwsant It is simple, 71 is crisper focused and thus appear sharper with note edge. Abigail Pro has softer decays which offer smoothness. If you are treble sensitive, perhaps you should look for something "warmer" like iFi Go Link or Hidizs XO

    I'm still using the non-pro version of Abigail right now.
    Andi, do you think there's different in sound quality when using Abigail in Exclusive USB hq access mode vs non exclusive access on Hiby?
    And is there an easier way to control audio volume on Hiby when in exclusive USB Hq access? It's really unconvenient to open the hiby apps + clicking those three dots just to open volume control

    • @AndyAudioVault
      @AndyAudioVault  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any dongle will work better in USB Exclusive mode because it will be running on max power and bitperfect (no resampling), but this also depends on how resolving is your IEMs. Some IEMs are so efficient ot less resolving that they will sound the same after all. Unfortunately, the vol situation with HiBy USB Exclusive mode is something we have to live with, that's why I always prefer dongles with independent volume adjustment. Or you can USE UAPP, where it is possible to fine tune the volume adjustment even when the screen is off

      I see. I think i'm fine with Hiby, considering that it also free.
      About Abigail, i do like it's natural neutral sounding, a big + point for me too.
      But at some point the sound can be too sharp to my ears, i don't know how to describe it correctly, Andi, but i feel like when listening to bright song, especially the female vocal, the music feels too narrow and words like 'ts' 's' etc become sharp too and creating hiss sound, to think that i'm using iem like QKZxHBB which is warm and also have smooth treble.
      I read other reviewers said that iBasso DC03 pro despite it's energetic, lively and engaging sound, doesn't mean it can be described as bright sounding.
      What's your opinion about it, Andi? Are the iBasso DC03 pro has the same sharp sound like Abigail, less or maybe even sharper? I like energetic sound too, but i concern about the sibilant/hiss, sharp, and also the sound that maybe too "attacking" our ears.
      And about the colored sound, is it also colored the vocal? And how noticable is it?
      Thx Andi.

    • @AndyAudioVault
      @AndyAudioVault  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It means that you need something a lot warmer. If you find Abigail sharp then I can guarantee you the rest of the dongles within that ultra compact segment are even sharper. You would probably be served better changing to IEMs which are less bright, something like Tangzu Yuan Li, Wan'Er SG or even BLON BL-03. DC03Pro is obviously in my top 5 list overall and that alone is a clear indication how much I like DC03Pro more. As I have been saying all over the place, DC03Pro is energetic yet it is also very fluid and smooth, NOT bright. You would probably like things like Hidizs XO or S9 (non pro), Lotoo PAW S1/S2 if you are sensitive to brightness
