    You should try to flash Jcally jm12 with Fiio ja11 tool (through windows), it will "transform" the dongle in a ja11 and it allows to use fiio control app to apply PEQ. I found that also overall audio quality improves and volume gets stronger too.

    • @donglemadness
      @donglemadness  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Thanks. If you find JM6 pro neutral bright, then it is true as well for AM01, JM7, Abigail Pro, JM12 and pretty much many other ultra compact dongles especially JM20 which is even brighter, so yes ODO is linear neutral bright. The only ones I don't consider bright would be JA21, Avani or JM04Pro

    • @donglemadness

    Hi Andy! Thank you for your low budget dongle videos. I have a question. JM12 and VE ODO both are using the same DAC, just different in the driving power. So if I just use some iem which requires little power (ex: Im using Kiwi ears cadenza, truthear zero:red), so does it sound the same? The problem with cell phones without 3.5 mm headphone jack is that you get a very bad audio experience and the most common problem is the "low microphone experience" so, do you have a solution for the problem? 😔 Is there any perfect usb dongle to have the same experience with 3.5 mm? hey bro, I have the xb 910N sony headphones...I have two questions, will the wired be good in terms of sound quality than the wireless one theoretically speaking? and if wired is good in terms of sound quality, can using this enhance the audio quality experience? I don't have iems and I have only this headphone... I have heard iems work very good with these dacs to improve the sound quality by many levels ahead... But not sure of whether mine will get enhanced audio quality like that of iems as it is a wireless one and it just has an "option" to connect in a wired manner (what I mean to say here is that wired is not the only dedicated path for transmission of audio unlike iems, but just another "alternative" way to listen to music via aux cable)... Please do clarify these doubts, would be very helpful for me!!

    • @donglemadness
      @donglemadness  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hard for me to say as I personally never tried XB 910N and what I haven't tried myself, I will not say things based on assumptions. What I do know is that many IEMs do sound great and even more resolving/superior with proper dongle like this VE ODO. Wired connection will always be superior especially when you are pushing for high resolution lossless audio. But I will also mention that some wireless technology like BT LDAC can match a wired setup up to 95%, and for the most part practically equal when subjected to casual usage on streaming music platforms

    Hi Andy, how are you, were you able to measure the maximum output vrms? I am interested in the VE ODO, do you have any max97220 type amplifier? Sorry, my English is very bad and the comparative video does not allow subtitles to be added, at least in my area.

    • @donglemadness
      @donglemadness  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I don't do measurements but from what I can hear, this is similar to other 1 Vrms rated dongles when it comes to output mass. Max97220? yes of course I have, JCAlly JM12 Pro, MEIZU Lifeme and KZ AM01 all uses the same Max97220, and I have all three of them. If you want to know, they do offer a bit more of power but I would say ODO and JM7 is very close with output too. I have also added subtitles manually. Hope this helps

    Breaking news on the VE ODO. Haven't heard a peep about it anywhere else.

    • @Zsaber64
      @Zsaber64 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Odo does not support 44.1 kHz sample rates. That might be a deal breaker for some. Bitperfect playback is not possible at the most popular sample rate.
      Avani, Abigail, Megatron, and Abigail Pro all support 44.1 kHz, as I'm sure most DACs do, so it's weird this doesn't.
      I don't hate the sound. It's quite good from what I've heard so far. Reminds me in a good way as a less bassy version of the semi-recent Venture Electronics Odyssey Retro included with the Monk A1. Odo is definitely cleaner than Retro and supports some USB exclusive modes. Retro does not support it at all. I'd choose Odo between the two.
      At least in my use case (Samsung Galaxy S23, UAPP, and Spotify), this dongle is in no way more powerful than VE's other options. I use the same volume as Odyssey Retro on earbuds, IEMs, and headphones. Doing my best to volume match to other dongles, it needs several more notches up compared to Avani and Abigail Pro, and even more compared to Jcally JM6 Pro.
      I am very confused why this is being presented as a more powerful upgrade to Abigail Pro and being compared favorably to JM6 Pro.
      It's a great for $5, but I'm otherwise not impressed. There are better options out there. Go with Abigail Pro or even better JM6 Pro.

    Mine arrived, in comparison the the iBasso DC04 pro it is more analytical and brighter. The Ibasso is much more analog. No comparison really. I get the feeling it is employing a fast roll off filter. For music I will have to pair it with warmer more analog earphones (no IEMS because none fit me) The Yincrow x6 that arrived at the same time I found a bit to bright with the Odo but fine with the DC04 pro. It will not play nice with UAPP, no bit perfect playback. Maybe the chip is not supported yet? For buds I am thinking of getting the RY4S plus to see if they pair better. Edit: after listening to Wanna be starting something by Michael Jackson I can also state the ibasso is rythmically far superior.

Speaking of economical options in iem they mostly in general are way easier to drive ( not all but majority yes) , so for someone like me who has a relatively harder to drive iem in a budget ( take for examples the budget planars now available in 50-60 usd range) this comparison makes a lot more sense imo , if you plug it to usual KZs and Truthear , the difference is i guess difficult to point out both analytically and digitally!!

    Loving my ODOs. Got 2 apiece in 3.5 and 4.4. wonderful technicalities, great Treble extensions. Doesn't cramp up stage. Can't believe the price. Way better than many higher-priced dongles who tend to invariably mess up the treble and roll it off too early. Thanks Andy! (Purchased em off their site)

      @@donglemadness they have a lovely tribute to you on their cover where they name you (donglemadness) and thank you. I felt almost proud!

      Which high price dongles you owned?

      @@estrella4677 own hiby FC6, Onix Alpha, dco4 and 03 pro, and a couple of apple dongle type thingies. Fc6 is R2r and has that great sense of fullness & organic tonality. Am alternating between that fc6 and (brighter treble-rich) VE Odo these days depending on SQ I am seeking from a particular iem and album am listening.

      @@estrella4677 not sure why my reply vanished. Will keep it briefer this time. Dac list: Hibyfc6, dc03 n 4 pro, Onix Alpha, couple of iphone dongle like cheapies. Fc6 is rich, full, analogue that I love. So these days depending on what SQ I want and the iem, I alternate between fc6 and treble-rich VE Odo

    Cheers for the review :} I found the KZ AM01&Jcally JM07 at 6$ w/free shipping while the Odo costs 11$ total, which one would you go for?

      That's the first time I am hearing ODO going above $5, that's odd. Sound wise I would still go for ODO, but if you feel that price is not justified, then AM01 or JM7 is still a viable option

    Hello again Andy. Thanks for the video. I wanted to ask if you've been fortunate to use the qcy h3 headphones. If yes, would you recommend the jm6 pro/jm7 for it. If there's better better options below 40$ I'd also appreciate some recommendations. Thanks!

      Thanks. Sorry I haven't had the opportunity to try HC3. For dongle DAC, under $40 this ODO is the best to get now, value to performance ratio is insane and at $5 even if you don't like it, it will never hurt you like spending over $300 on AudioQuest Cobalt and finding out it sounded no better than a $5 JCally or $12 KZ AM01

    Very excited for the JM12. Got it for 5 USD. was on the fence about JM6 Pro since it drives better, but for half the price I think JM12 will be sufficient (Planar IEM)
    Did want a CX or similar but again, figured KT is serviceable.
    Curious to hear your thoughts on the differences between all 3 (CS43131)

    • @donglemadness

      You will notice that JM12 has the weakest power among them all, even ODO which uses the same KT DAC audibly more powerful and more suitable for planars

    Hey Andy, what would be the best boxy dongle for pc gaming under $40?

      Boxy? You might want to check EPZ TP20 or TP20Pro, especially if you can get a deal not over $40
