hey bro, I have the xb 910N sony headphones...I have two questions, will the wired be good in terms of sound quality than the wireless one theoretically speaking? and if wired is good in terms of sound quality, can using this enhance the audio quality experience? I don't have iems and I have only this headphone... I have heard iems work very good with these dacs to improve the sound quality by many levels ahead... But not sure of whether mine will get enhanced audio quality like that of iems as it is a wireless one and it just has an "option" to connect in a wired manner (what I mean to say here is that wired is not the only dedicated path for transmission of audio unlike iems, but just another "alternative" way to listen to music via aux cable)... Please do clarify these doubts, would be very helpful for me!!
Hard for me to say as I personally never tried XB 910N and what I haven't tried myself, I will not say things based on assumptions. What I do know is that many IEMs do sound great and even more resolving/superior with proper dongle like this VE ODO. Wired connection will always be superior especially when you are pushing for high resolution lossless audio. But I will also mention that some wireless technology like BT LDAC can match a wired setup up to 95%, and for the most part practically equal when subjected to casual usage on streaming music platforms
Hi Andy, how are you, were you able to measure the maximum output vrms? I am interested in the VE ODO, do you have any max97220 type amplifier? Sorry, my English is very bad and the comparative video does not allow subtitles to be added, at least in my area.
I don't do measurements but from what I can hear, this is similar to other 1 Vrms rated dongles when it comes to output mass. Max97220? yes of course I have, JCAlly JM12 Pro, MEIZU Lifeme and KZ AM01 all uses the same Max97220, and I have all three of them. If you want to know, they do offer a bit more of power but I would say ODO and JM7 is very close with output too. I have also added subtitles manually. Hope this helps
Hello, i have cca polaris . Wich you prefere to pair? Already test with jm6 pro but i don't like the sound . It feel shouty and bright . My ear can't stand with cx31993 i think
Odo does not support 44.1 kHz sample rates. That might be a deal breaker for some. Bitperfect playback is not possible at the most popular sample rate. Avani, Abigail, Megatron, and Abigail Pro all support 44.1 kHz, as I'm sure most DACs do, so it's weird this doesn't. I don't hate the sound. It's quite good from what I've heard so far. Reminds me in a good way as a less bassy version of the semi-recent Venture Electronics Odyssey Retro included with the Monk A1. Odo is definitely cleaner than Retro and supports some USB exclusive modes. Retro does not support it at all. I'd choose Odo between the two. At least in my use case (Samsung Galaxy S23, UAPP, and Spotify), this dongle is in no way more powerful than VE's other options. I use the same volume as Odyssey Retro on earbuds, IEMs, and headphones. Doing my best to volume match to other dongles, it needs several more notches up compared to Avani and Abigail Pro, and even more compared to Jcally JM6 Pro. I am very confused why this is being presented as a more powerful upgrade to Abigail Pro and being compared favorably to JM6 Pro. It's a great for $5, but I'm otherwise not impressed. There are better options out there. Go with Abigail Pro or even better JM6 Pro.
Great review 👍🏽 My 1st dongle was VE odyssey, later I bought JM6 pro after watching your review. Now I'm waiting to buy VE odo. Thanks Andy brother 😊 Does VE odo support mic?
Hi Andy, your reviews of this type of dongles always help me. Where can I find the VE ODO please. Aliexpress I didn't find anything, the same in VECLAM.
just received the Odo, and wow! I DD'd the KZ AM01 before this and I can say by comparison, the Odo is on the opposite side of the sound spectrum being brighter with a more open soundstage and with excellent sound richness! thanks for reviewing it awhile back!
I have kz castor and jcally jm04 pro ( bought few years ago after reading your review) . I like jm04 p but its not transparent. Thats what keeps me from loving it.. i use EQ and it makes my EQ meaningless.. Is VE ODO transparent or adds color ?
Have you tried the new Fiio JA11? How does it compare to the Venture Electronics ODO? Both are the same price and don't use CX31993 like other cheap dongles. But the JA11 has PEQ in onboard memory!
Just received the Odo, ordered it right after I watched this video last weekend (there's a distributor has this one in stock). It's actually the opposite sound to the AM01. It's much brighter, cleaner and mid is slightly more forward. Thanks for the review! PS. Did you know that they literally wrote "special thanks to #donglemadness" in the front of their packaging? lol
Hi sir, i hope you will consider reviewing Jcally JM20, JM40, JM80E. I could not find reliable review in this internet world. Who else to turn to, other than the most extensive dongle review on this planet? 🙏🏽
JM20 is and old dongle which I already reviewed 3 years ago, it is rather bright and edgy crispy sounding, you get better performance from ODO or JM12 or JM6 Pro etc. JM40 and JM80E perhaps soon
Hahahaha….because of you I will start hunting budget dac again, Andy 😅😅😅 same as when I found your site couple of years ago even now my portable setup is Fiio KA3 & Tanchjim Zero 😂😂😂
Mine arrived, in comparison the the iBasso DC04 pro it is more analytical and brighter. The Ibasso is much more analog. No comparison really. I get the feeling it is employing a fast roll off filter. For music I will have to pair it with warmer more analog earphones (no IEMS because none fit me) The Yincrow x6 that arrived at the same time I found a bit to bright with the Odo but fine with the DC04 pro. It will not play nice with UAPP, no bit perfect playback. Maybe the chip is not supported yet? For buds I am thinking of getting the RY4S plus to see if they pair better. Edit: after listening to Wanna be starting something by Michael Jackson I can also state the ibasso is rythmically far superior.
Hello, thanks for the review. Can you recommend a dongle that has a warm sound and is cheap? I want to buy the ODO as well, but will it be too bright? I'm currently using the cx pro CX31993.
Thanks! For warmer sounding dongle at budget segment, you can try the JCally JM04Pro or JCally JA21. If you want to spend a bit more then I highly recommend EarFun UA100
Thanks, if you say Abigail is bright then 90% of ultra compact dongles are bright as well, especially JCally JM20 which is super bright. The only ones not so bright would be Avani/JM04Pro or JCally JA21. ODO is more refined than Abigail Pro
I'm a beginner audiophile looking to upgrade my dongle DAC. Currently using the Conexant one and somehow hasn't broken yet but it couldn't hurt to try out the VE Odo considering the really cheap pirce. Can't wait to order it!
@@donglemadness I wish I waited a little longer for the cheaper and better ODO but yea the Abigail Pro is still great. It's more than enough for me since I only use IEM for now and it can drive my OG Zetian to a good listening volume at just 20-30% volume. Though if I am to get a pair of headphones one day, I'd probably need one with a way higher driving power.
Hi Andy I’m using an iPhone 11, and I like the Jcally JM6 Pro lightning version a lot ( i discover this dongle through your channel so thank you for that ), but the problem is i don’t know if the lightning version are as good as the Type C version when is come to power and sound quality .
Unfortunately the older iPhones on Lightning are known to be weak with USB power and you have limited options. For as long as you can use your JM6Pro without any issues, then don't worry that you are missing anything. It is either they will work or not at all with Apple lightning

I recall there was a KTMicro JCAlly dongle in the past, I think it might been JM08C you reviewed - they wrote "JC Custom Chip" but shown KT on some marketing graphics. But it could been another dongle and I just don't remember the model designation. It was yet another low spec as KT4099, I think it was something like KT0240 or something, but google doesn't find anything like that.
@@donglemadness Found my old notes where I listed dongles from AliExpress with everything I could find on them (like chip and power), I have "JCAlly JM08C - KT0210 1V" written down in it. Hii andy.. need to clarify something with you I hope u see this nd reply me.. I had received my EPZ TP50 this week. While listening on 4.4mm balanced I could hear some pop/crackling sound very frequently in my IEMs. I had never experienced this with my other dongle ibasso dc03 pro. Even on the 3.5 SE I faced the same issue with TP50. But when I attached it to my laptop everything was fine. There was no pop/crackling sound. It was super clean. I couldn't understand what nd where it went wrong nd why it is behaving like that. Since from the 2 days am not able to figure it out. That sound is so annoying. Could you please tell me if you have any idea on this?? Is the issue with my mobile or the product I had received?? When I switched back to my ibasso everything was fine. Why is it happening with only TP50?? Can you please share your thoughts?? It will be so much helpful.. TIA andy..
Enable the H-Depop feature on your TP50, if it still persists then you need to report this to the seller. My own TP50 never had this issue even when connected to crazily sensitive hybrid IEMs under 5 Ohm
@@donglemadness thank you andy.. I did what you have suggested but the issue still exists. After that I switched to low gain mode and the issue got reduced to some extent, but still the issue hasn't gone completely. So I have placed an exchange request. Thanks much for the quick response..
I blame it on Apple, they make it hard for other manufacturers to align easier to Apple due to MFi certification which is very taxing. But at least iPhone 15 finally realized they cannot shun the needs to align better with more user friendly standards - USB Type C
What is the difference between the sound of Venture Electronics ODO and meizu lifeme, with meizu I am satisfied with the low tone, but unfortunately I returned for warranty and money back
@@donglemadness Ok, thank you very much! I hear that t10 (like pr2) benefits of a good power output becouse of his 96dB sensibility. You think I can hear a notorious difference from a powerful desktop dac amp?
Yes, if you push them with over 500mW or over 2VRMS, all planars tend to scale further, not necessarily desktop DAC/Amps, tons of 2-4 VRMS dongles can do that easily already. ODO is just 1 VRMS but for $5 there's no better option at that price point. You want to max it out, go for something like EPZ TP50 or ONIX Alpha and use the 4.4mm BAL side

I understand test with full size can as a way to measure power but you forget to remind us that this test is meaningless as user who spend $300 on a headphone will never buy a $5 dac that limits it's quality, they will spend at least $50 on a dac
I think you missing the point here, of course if I have $300 headphones I use it with my $850 DAC/Amp. The point here is to push the limit of what a $5 can do, if you don't try you will never find out. At least when someone ask can a cheap $5 dongle provide drivability to hard to drive stuffs, I can answer them with facts and not assumptions. And you already make assumptions just because they are $5, they limit the quality, have a try first before making judgement
@@donglemadness i understand this was a simple way to have a idea of the real worl power output of the dongles but again please point out that this scenario will never happen in real life
This makes no sense , to review and find minor differences side by side youll obviously plug into a relatively harder to drive iem to get a better resolution! So hes just done that ! Speaking of economical options in iem they mostly in general are way easier to drive ( not all but majority yes) , so for someone like me who has a relatively harder to drive iem in a budget ( take for examples the budget planars now available in 50-60 usd range) this comparison makes a lot more sense imo , if you plug it to usual KZs and Truthear , the difference is i guess difficult to point out both analytically and digitally!!
@@juliuscharan3690 if most people buy low price iem such as kz and the source makes so little difference that a $5 dac is enough it is good to know because this is real world scenario. we are not interested in measuring the full potential of a dac if this difference requires using $5000 headphone to show off this difference, this will not happen with the 99% use case.

Thanks. Sorry I haven't had the opportunity to try HC3. For dongle DAC, under $40 this ODO is the best to get now, value to performance ratio is insane and at $5 even if you don't like it, it will never hurt you like spending over $300 on AudioQuest Cobalt and finding out it sounded no better than a $5 JCally or $12 KZ AM01
Very excited for the JM12. Got it for 5 USD. was on the fence about JM6 Pro since it drives better, but for half the price I think JM12 will be sufficient (Planar IEM) Did want a CX or similar but again, figured KT is serviceable. Curious to hear your thoughts on the differences between all 3 (CS43131)
You will notice that JM12 has the weakest power among them all, even ODO which uses the same KT DAC audibly more powerful and more suitable for planars

hey bro, I have the xb 910N sony headphones...I have two questions, will the wired be good in terms of sound quality than the wireless one theoretically speaking? and if wired is good in terms of sound quality, can using this enhance the audio quality experience?
You need something really warm, something like iFi GO Link
Breaking news on the VE ODO. Haven't heard a peep about it anywhere else.
Great review 👍🏽
My 1st dongle was VE odyssey, later I bought JM6 pro after watching your review. Now I'm waiting to buy VE odo. Thanks Andy brother 😊
Does VE odo support mic?
Hey no worries. Cheers 😁🥃🍺
For $5 dollars, that literally can not be beaten. Great review, Andy!
Couldn't agree more!
Hi Andy, your reviews of this type of dongles always help me. Where can I find the VE ODO please. Aliexpress I didn't find anything, the same in VECLAM.

I couldn't find it on Aliexpress either. I just went for the jm7 tho
Bought my Odo from Aliexpress, I believe there is only one store.
just received the Odo, and wow! I DD'd the KZ AM01 before this and I can say by comparison, the Odo is on the opposite side of the sound spectrum being brighter with a more open soundstage and with excellent sound richness! thanks for reviewing it awhile back!
Awesome 😁
I have kz castor and jcally jm04 pro ( bought few years ago after reading your review) . I like jm04 p but its not transparent. Thats what keeps me from loving it.. i use EQ and it makes my EQ meaningless..
Is VE ODO transparent or adds color ?
ODO is more transparent and non colored compared to JM04
I have the VE Abigail pro and I love it! I'm definitely going to buy the ODO. Great review as always. Love the T-shirt!
Awesome! Thank you!
Have you tried the new Fiio JA11? How does it compare to the Venture Electronics ODO? Both are the same price and don't use CX31993 like other cheap dongles. But the JA11 has PEQ in onboard memory!
I don't have JA11 yet so I have no idea until I am able to test one. Thanks
Just received the Odo, ordered it right after I watched this video last weekend (there's a distributor has this one in stock).
It's actually the opposite sound to the AM01. It's much brighter, cleaner and mid is slightly more forward.
Thanks for the review!
PS. Did you know that they literally wrote "special thanks to #donglemadness" in the front of their packaging? lol
Very curious to hear how this compares to Fiio JA11!
Does odo will have 4.4mm? My fav cable are all 4.4
No idea for now, perhaps after the release of the 3.5mm maybe we would see 4.4mm? this would probably come later
That’s awesome that the ODO can drive the Sundara when hooked up to your PC. How powerful is the ODO from a phone though?
On USB Exclusive mode via HIBY Music app, my phone which runs USB PD 3.0 needed volume at around 24 of 32 for the same results as seen on PC
8:40 its propably due to digital gain settings
😂😇
Love the venom shirt.
Great advice on the dongle.
🤘🏼
The DC04 is almost $100 in price!
Odo does not support 44.1 kHz. It should work with bitperfect playback at 48 kHz and it's multiples though.
hi! do you have any recommendations to protect dac dongles? like preventing the wires to break from the root. thanks in advance!
Just be careful with them. Especially when placing them in the pocket. These super cheap dongles can get damaged if not taken care of properly
So venture odo is better than jm6 pro overall?
Yes. Absolutely

Thanks for the review sir!
How does this compare to Abigail sound-wise? I don't own one, but according to some reviews, Abigail is bright sounding.
At $5 it will never hurt you even if you don't like the sound
Damn I just got the Abigail Pro last month...
And you have a great budget dongle there in Abigail Pro, I will keep it dearly since VE would like replace Abigail Pro with ODO going forward
Rose Technics will soon release a new DAC called Roseselsa. Would be nice if you can review it when it comes out.

Hii andy.. need to clarify something with you I hope u see this nd reply me..
So I have placed an exchange request.

as someone still stuck on lightning, i wish there were more dongle options for lightning. its really just the apple dongle
I blame it on Apple, they make it hard for other manufacturers to align easier to Apple due to MFi certification which is very taxing. But at least iPhone 15 finally realized they cannot shun the needs to align better with more user friendly standards - USB Type C

For my planars here yes, no issues with power and driving them with good authority
