  • After a schoolgirl was brutally attacked and sexually assaulted by a gang of thugs at school, McCall’s help is called upon. He turns up as the gangs teacher where he boldly introduces himself. He reveals he is going to teach them all about death, a clever tactic to make them quite their roles in the gang and give themselves up.

This is the channel of the 80s Television Series starring Edward Woodward, as Robert McCall. Arguably one of the best crime shows of it’s time; a retired, skilled government body with many years of experience, lends a service to help desperate people with nowhere else to turn. A show that touched many people with it’s premise, and for years kept people gripped with it’s brutal stories, interesting character development and well-rounded writing.

Woodward was a class act. No reboot will ever come close to what he did in this series- he managed to portray an older professional trying to do good and also a man who had to control rage and violence. Those are hard things to fold into one character, and he carried it across every episode. A commanding performance.

It seems fairly certain he was supposed to be Callan after retirement, and presumably a surprising influx of funds. But he carried off the role beautifully.

I have got the movie DVD of Denzel Washington plays Robert McCall in The Equalizer and The Equalizer 2 but this is the TV series of Edward Woodward who plays Robert McCall in The Equalizer as I am dedicating these movie DVDS to my old school friends who are both sisters as I hope to see them again very soon to Chris and Hester from Billyxxxxx

Here's a triva people forget at time, The Original 80's T.V version of the Equalizer, Denzel Washington was doing medical T.V drama called St. ELSEWHERE. Before Denzel Washington became a big-screen star. He never thought years latter, he would be a big-screen version of the Equalizer.

There were two brilliant things about this series. Woodward, of course, somehow NOT and ALSO being a retired Callan, and also...the Stewart Copeland soundtracks. Sting was not the only reason the Police were good.
