Absolutely beautiful. I have wanted to build a proper wooden ship since I was a child, and have just started to look into what is involved. Your work on this ship is an inspiration.
Really spectacular build! I visited the Victory in 1972 when I was in the US Navy. We tied up in Southampton not far from the Victory. Liberty call sounded and I was off for a tour! What an experience. In later years I built a “from scratch” plank on frame model of the revenue cutter Dallas which actually came out well. I couldn’t imagine building something as complex as this...it would take me a lifetime!
This is ONE FINE SHIP! I also build 15th to 18th Century Galleon Ships as a hobby and mine are all handmade from scratch and handbuilt. They are each about 2 feet long made out of wood and carved by hand. I have kept some and sold some. Thanks for sharing your talent too!
I build/paint models for a living but i can only dream of producing something of this quality. Truly amazing. I dont think people really know just how much work goes into a model like this until they try it for themselves.
WOW! well done Bill. I have attempted to build the Victory, in standing rigging, from scratch using copies of original drawings. Started in 1978 and it is still a long way from finished, so i know how difficult a project like this can be. Patience patience and more patience is the name of the game.
Awesome is an overused word. This build is simply spectacular. It is truly a piece of museum quality. I’ve been a scale modeller now for 60 years and I would be proud to produce work of this quality
BEAUTIFUL. One of my doctors, at the V.A. Hospital in Long Beach, CA , was a member of the official U.S. delegation to the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. He had a 15 minute private conversation with Prince Phillip and the Royal Navy gave him a scale model of H.M.S. Victory, in a glass case, made completely out of wood salvaged from the famous ship. He keeps it in his office at the hospital. The model is about two feet long and is beautiful. I took a cell phone picture of it the last time I was there. That baby is PRICELESS.
The last time I was in my doctor's office, I looked more closely at the model of HMS Victory. It's still beautiful, but the workmanship and, especially, the attention to detail, I found to be lacking. I was going to point out, to my doctor, the twin wheels used to steer the ship. Alas, there wasn't a quarter-deck on his model. No wheels, no anti-personnel cannons, no anything.
theoriginalbadblob I've been on that boat its beautiful I've stood Right next to the spot Lord admiral horatio nelson was shot in the back and I've been to the deck he died on
I find very hard to believe that any one was allowed to “salvage “ wood from that ship which is as sacred a monument to the British as the Alamo to Americans. Even if it were permitted, such a prize of wood certainly wasn’t given to any low skill model builder as the one you describe seems to have come from. If such a model exists it would not have been flippantly given away to an American delegate to such a celebrated anniversary that country had nothing to do with. No one that low down the feed trough gets a private audience with an HRH for any amount of time. Your doctor needs his head examined.
I have been building models since I was 5 years old (I am 30 now)...Ive built hundreds of different types. But, this right here is a damn beautiful piece of art. I would NEVER be able to do this! That ship is absolutely amazing!!!
Beautiful craftsmanship. I haven't seen such great work in a long time. I'm on my second ship build, not even close to this level, so I appreciate the fine work you've done.
Since watching your video i have started build a 1/124 thermopylae and it makes me apreciate just how much time and effort goes into these ships compared to the plastic kits. You have done an amazing job of yours keep up the good work.
Just in the process of reading 23 books by Alexander Kent about a fictional Vice Admiral from around the time of Nelson. This model is way beyond my ability but helps bring to life the books. Thank you, it is simply beautiful. Wow!
Hi Bill, lovely job. Artisani Latina sell a model building clamp which is fantastic, like having 3 hands and much better that the old towel. I also make my sails wind swept by using moulds and sugar water or thinned down varnish, gives a more real appeal.
I'm building the same kit. I really like the idea of planking only up to the top of the gun-ports then cutting them out before laying the header plank. My carving hand thanks you, Sir.
Hi Bill you nailed it. I live in Portsmouth and make products for the Royal naval heritage museum gift shop using wood taken from HMS Victory during its restoration work. I am really impressed with your craftsmanship, it is a brilliant example of our beloved HMS Victory.. All the best Tony
Dear Bill, Thank you so very much. It's the most spectacular birthday gift I've ever gotten. If you need for me to pick it up myself, let me know when and I'll drop by when convenient for you.
Stunning, Bill. I had an uncle, also named Bill (Hura) that built ships too. Back in the 60's and 70's, He was pretty locally known (Lorain county, Oh).
Very nice! The bigger the better! Watch out with those glass tables, one time a hooded crow pecked once at the middle of one of mine and it instantly shattered to hundreds of little pieces.
Excellent work Bill. Simply exquisite. I am trying to make a choice between this ship and the Santa Ana (both by Artesiana latina) but can't make up my mind. Any pros and cons? Also I noticed you didn't use the nails usually seen in these models. I don't like the nails because i think they take away from the beauty of the planking. Is this why you didn't use them? And last question; Are the plywood parts pre-cut? Thanks for your help. Tito
Thanks for the info Bill. I will also forego the nails. I ordered the Santa Ana and should get it this week. This will be my third ship but the first big one. The largest up to now is Panart's "La Rose".
This is so cool.. I've always wanted to build a model sailing ship but there are so many beautiful kinds and historic ones I don't know which to spend time on! I love this nice video
I'm not hugely into wooden ship modeling but, WOW, that's amazing. I'm just finishing up the titanic and was complaining about the "complicated" rigging.
That's why I posted them - Glad they helped someone. I know how hard my first one was and how much I could have used more photos of the build. Have fun!!!
Incredible, Bill. I’ve been fortunate enough to tour HMS Victory in dry dock at the historic dockyards in Portsmouth. It’s an amazing ship and yours is a faithful representation.
Wow! Now I've seen work that I'll never be able to even dream of equaling. How you did that build in less than 10,000 or so hours is amazing!! Incredible!!
Absolutely awesome to behold. That is my idea of a proper galleon that really captures the imaginationWonderful to watch it in "fast forward" fashion too!
Congratulations! It is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. When I was younger (14/16), made some models of aircraft and ships, but NEVER something so beautiful as well. I admire such a beautiful job as yours. Thanks for reward us with his masterpiece. Applause. Big hug. An admirer of your work, Helder - Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, Petropolis.
I am back again. I'm mighty impressed with your work mate. I've just finished my first build (it won't win any awards) but I enjoyed myself making it. I will try a couple more easier models before I will even think about the HMS Victory. I'm retired army, play guitar and am hooked on building wooden model ships. Life's good! LG
What an accomplishment. Respect is due. A thing of beauty is a joy forever. I sometimes wonder how HMS Victory would have faired against USS Constitution if they had ever engaged in an hypothetical world 🤭. Thanks for sharing mate - Rgds.
it would be a very short battle for the USS Constitution, 44-gun frigate vs 104-gun first-rate ship of the line with a copper haul with12 inch thick walls around the gun decks not to mention it had Gundeck: 30 × 2.75 ton long pattern Blomefield 32 pounders (15 kg) Middle gundeck: 28 × 2.5 ton long 24 pounders (11 kg) Upper gundeck: 30 × 1.7 ton short 12 pounders (5 kg) Quarterdeck: 12 × 1.7 ton short 12 pounder (5 kg) Forecastle: 2 × medium 12 pounder (5 kg), 2 × 68 pounder (31 kg) carronade
Absolutely beautiful. I have wanted to build a proper wooden ship since I was a child, and have just started to look into what is involved. Your work on this ship is an inspiration.
I consider myself a proper automotive modeler. This is a project that is way above my pay grade. Wonderfully done! 🥇
Really spectacular build! I visited the Victory in 1972 when I was in the US Navy. We tied up in Southampton not far from the Victory. Liberty call sounded and I was off for a tour! What an experience.

WOW! OMG! WOW! WOW! WOW! THIS IS NOT ONLY CRAFTSMANSHIP, THIS IS REMARKABLE! I HAVE MODELED 50 YEARS AND I SAY HOLY COW! NICE JOB!
That's not a ship model, that's a manifestation of a young man's dream...
this comment could not be more accurate
A perfect remark, top comment.
@@fromans1734 It comes from my heart, because I also build ships like this. Currently working on HMS Sovereign of the Seas, a true challenge.
Being French, I am no fan of Victory but cannot deny a great ship's due. Beautiful job on this iconic war ship.
We smashed you at trafalgar.
Creating a Man o War cannot be easy props to you boss beautifully done.
That’s a gorgeous passion and result. ! ❤ Lord Nelson would be proud ! 😮
People like yourself are truly blessed with a gift. That model ship is beautiful.

Un travail remarquable... Atteindre un tel niveau en construction de maquette à de quoi jubiler de plaisir et de passion !
People usually don't appreciate this as much as they should, I've built smaller ships and I know that you are truly an artisan
HOLY CRAP! Never ceases to amaze me the stuff people can do when they don't have to worry where their next meal is coming from! WOW!
Awesome is an overused word. This build is simply spectacular. It is truly a piece of museum quality. I’ve been a scale modeller now for 60 years and I would be proud to produce work of this quality

Much respect for all of the hard work and attention to detail. Beautiful model.
I've been on hms victory personally and my grandfather served briefly , what a true representation of a British icon , salute you sir 👏
IYou have done a wonderful job, Bill. Time, determination, craftsmanship, and love. You merit our respect. Bravo !

Well done Billy Boy,a true craftsman.
Stunning work. I sense a lot of pride was generated while that build was underway!
Quelle perfection !! fruit d'une grande passion - et d'un savoir-faire exceptionnel , chapeau bas Monsieur !
That's just awesome! The model is great, but this video of the construction is a thing of beauty in itself. Thanks for sharing this.
Incredible craftsmanship on display here. Results are eye popping. Well done!
Since watching your video i have started build a 1/124 thermopylae and it makes me apreciate just how much time and effort goes into these ships compared to the plastic kits.
You have done an amazing job of yours keep up the good work.
Awesome build! I like the idea of using push pins to hold the staves on. Brilliant.
Absolutely smashing! What a wonderful masterpiece. And a brillant documentation. Thank you very much for showing.
I am impressed! Surely that was not a model kit that one would get at a hobby store.
Just in the process of reading 23 books by Alexander Kent about a fictional Vice Admiral from around the time of Nelson. This model is way beyond my ability but helps bring to life the books. Thank you, it is simply beautiful. Wow!
Its is not beyond your ability. Patience is key.
Wow! That is one nice ship you built. All those cannons were a build by themselves a bet.
By God, that’s a big one off the bucket list. Beautiful work

The details are incomprehensible. Very, very well done 👍

I HAVE WANTED TO BUILD A MODEL LIKE THAT FOR A LONG TIME. GREAT JOB.
wow! I built the 1/100th scale Heller model . It took 7 months of my life! What you did with that kit is amazing!
Im 1000 hours into the Billings Victory. First build. I commend your artistry sir.
Wow beautiful. I can imagine when youve finished and the sense of accomplishment starts to calm down you twiddle your thumbs and think..... now what?!
I built this in a plastic kit and strung the ship and made sails.
This is so much and far better, great craftsmenship
Very nice! The bigger the better! Watch out with those glass tables, one time a hooded crow pecked once at the middle of one of mine and it instantly shattered to hundreds of little pieces.

AMAZING, SOOO BEAUTIFUL. ALL THOSE DETAILS. VERY VERY NICE.

I'm not hugely into wooden ship modeling but, WOW, that's amazing. I'm just finishing up the titanic and was complaining about the "complicated" rigging.
Damn, it couldn't get more detailed than this.. 10/10
I watch your videos over and over again they are so informative and I am building the exact 2 models the victory and surprise
That's why I posted them - Glad they helped someone. I know how hard my first one was and how much I could have used more photos of the build. Have fun!!!
robert dunham, you will surely learn patience
Excellent skill and craftsmanship, Thank You for sharing to us,
Engaged enemy frigate at six bells,
run out the starboard battery, FIRE!

Wow awesome truly awesome. I've visited the Victory as a school trip and later a couple of time with my husband who is from Pompey.
more stunning than the beauty and detail, is the talent. it's no wonder these ships cost a bundle!
Das ist doch kein Hobby mehr,daß ist Kunsthandwerk.absolut schön👍👍👍
What a great build - congratulations on your skill and patience.
Absolutely awesome to behold. That is my idea of a proper galleon that really captures the imaginationWonderful to watch it in "fast forward" fashion too!
The satisfaction one must feel after completing a project as involved as this.
People who dislike this are insecure, jealous, miserable human beings. This ship build is amazing.
Now that Is one hell of a model build! Well done you mate.
Truly awesome achievement. I only wished Admiral Nelson was hear to see it.
He was watching, I'm sure.
I am gobsmacked, I was looking for little sailors climbing about on it. Bravo.
I’ve always wanted to build a ship model like this but the price of the kits and amount of time necessary puts me off. Beautiful build! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
from one pro builder to another. BRILLIANT JOB!!! defo glass cabinet though...
Congratulations! It is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. When I was younger (14/16), made some models of aircraft and ships, but NEVER something so beautiful as well. Very impressive !!! I found an old Indomptable ship building kit that was pretty tough. It gave me the passion to want to build more. The end.
Superb craftsmanship of a British icon, well done sir.
Incredible craftsmanship. That must've been one hell of a journey.
Well done!
Man I wish I had the skill (patience) and wear- with-all (cash) to do something like this. TOO cool!
Model my foot that’s a real work of art and labour of love!
I am back again. I'm mighty impressed with your work mate. I've just finished my first build (it won't win any awards) but I enjoyed myself making it. just saw this comment and wondered if you still make them? I made my first Harvey Boat model and feel ready for the Victory :p
hats off to you Bill ..... Amazing work of art .
Great job !!! What kind of varnish did you use
(and colors)?
Absolutely beautiful workmanship..nelson would have been proud to have this magnificent piece of art on his mantlepeice
Rob H It’s Admiral Nelson !!!!! Not nelson
Un artista vero. Meraviglioso lavoro!
I got this kit last week after watching this video I can't wait to start it.
ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful!!!!!!
Fabulous work. Great presentation. Thank you for sharing.
Отличная работа, завидую терпению.Это моя мечта!
Stunning, just absolutely stunning!
Thank you!
wow bill, incredible job. the detail is too good.
I didn't keep track of time - but if I had to guess I'd say 12 to 1,300 hours.
1300 hours thanks
Wow, awesome Bill. So I guess if a workman do it 10 hour a day, it would take about 5 months.
Bill Bergmark are there MANY materials to make HMS "Victory"?
How much did it cost to build??
That's a big difference
Beautiful build, like to see the wind filling the sails
Excellent model! A real work of art!
WOW !!!
That is majestic, magnificent, drop dead gorgeous and stunning. Great job !!!...........but now I think I need a cold shower
Bill, that is absolutely beautiful- stunning! Your skill as a modeller is off the scale!
A beautiful piece of work.
my father and me build the same ship for almost 2 years now. so much work to do.
Beautiful! I tried building a smaller wooden model several years ago. No where near what you have done. You are really gifted!
Wow. This is breath taking. Very cool.
I’m from Portsmouth U.K. and I’ve seen it multiple times in person great job
Thanks for the video. I wish I had the money and tools like you do. If I did, I would build an HMS Victory too!
Breath taking job!!!!
muito foda bora porra
hats off to you bill. fantastic job! fantastic job!
What a Wonderful Museum Piece. Great Skills and Patience
