'production hell' is a myth. Most of best films ever made went through a so-called 'production hell' i.e. they spent years being refined before being released. Movies today no longer go through a 'production hell'. They are churned out by Hollywood. Choose any random great film. I can almost guarantee you that it experienced a multitude of production changes. Film companies used to sit on scripts for years. Endless edits. Films where the choice for lead stars changed from one year to the next. Please do not believe the 'production hell' BS myth about Alien 3. Critics and cinemagoers shat on the film simply because Fincher dumped Hicks and Newt. Fincher was not going to let the man-babies kill his burgeoning career so he used production as a scapegoat.
When we recorded it live i had a list of other first time directors who made significantly better films right out the gate, but it felt out of place so I edited it out.
