"There's nothing like it in the world"
The New 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is not only Hyundai's first electric N Car but also the most powerful and first AWD N.
We get a very special interview with former BMW M guru and the Godfather of Hyundai's N brand, Albert Biermann. We explore the challenges of maintaining the 3 pillars of N which is creating a vehicle that is a Corner Rascal, Track capable and an everyday sports car in a 2.2 ton AWD electric vehicle. The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is so much more than a standard IONIQ 5 with added power, the engineers at Hyundai set out to create a flagship EV that ticks all the boxes of the N brand and more including a 641 hp powertrain, an active e-Shift mode simulating actual gears along with action and sound, customizable torque distribution, drift mode, advanced thermal management and of course it has one of the best and fastest charging systems on the market with it's 800V system.
The wait is over and the most advanced and powerful N car has arrived. The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is the New benchmark for performance EV's. Not only does the N get double the horsepower as the long range AWD IONIQ 5 at 600 hp and 641hp with boost mode, the entire car has been given a complete N treatment which touches every part of the car and is optimized for not only maximum performance but for maximum fun as well.
The IONIQ 5 N also gets a completely new ccNC infotainment system that houses the N menus which allows the user to customize their drive for the road or track including different battery thermal management , drift optimization, N e-Shift which you really have to try, its incredible, drag mode, launch control and so so much more. Like the other N cars in the line-up, the IONIQ 5 N has also spent a lot of time testing and tuning at the world famous gruelling Nurburgring race track in Germany.
We also get to hear from the godfather of the N brand Albert Biermann as he tells us the challenges of creating an electric N.
The new 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N will be hitting our North American shores by Summer 2024.

Best hire the Hyundai Motor Group ever made was Albert Bierman. When I first test drove the 2018 Kia Stinger GT2, my immediate thought was “this feels like an E39 BMW 540i.” Little did I know how right I was.

I didn't know who Mr. Bierman was until I drove Ioniq 5. I experienced 5N, and it was exciting, to say the least. I just can not imagine Humans going back to ICEV; slow, dull, smelly (fume), and difficult. Thank you for the video.

Dr. B doesn’t disappoint. That golden generation of Chief engineers is fast disappearing and to see him still involved in such projects is delightful.

Albert Biermann really changed Hyundai's performance end in terms of fun to drive dynamics and overall driving experience. I mean 18 years working at the BMW M Division means that you're going to be getting the best in terms of what I just said above, and he really brought that to Hyundai. I mean the Elantra N, Kona N, Veloster N, it was his amazing work that has really change the way people see Hyundai now in terms of performance.

    Hi Brian,
Cruising and engaging in conversation with the legendary Albert Biermann is a dream for many.
You've been granted an early Christmas present in Korea. 👏👏
I hope you've had the opportunity to try their grilled Hanwoo Beef and Samgyeopsal (Pork belly) with Soju before heading back.

He’s the real deal for sure. There’s so much that went into this car that he could have went on for an hour getting into all the details and he’s also so passionate about creating driving dynamics and not just about numbers.

This is amazing. As a former Tesla employee, I am most excited by the N division and especially the EVs. Kia needs to tune their EV6 GT with similar benefits. Also genesis and the GV60.
Props to Hyundai and I hope that all the companies copy them. ❤🎉😮

Albert Biermann is a genius. What he has done for Hyundai in less than ten years is elevate the car maker to heights of driving performance that can compete at the highest level in the world.

Alby has me sold , still cant afford it but if i could i would throw the money . The biggest point that he makes which he repeats becuase its not all that common is FUN . So many things are sold on #s and ultimate times and outcomes but machines are so over capable that nobody who isnt an elite pro and young with every neuron they have firing perfect can extract the potential so your left with something that will scare your pants brown and you will be slower in or have terrible learning curve being afraid of it like a rabid squirrel that ran up your pant leg or a venomous snake you encounter exiting the shower that eats other snakes .
The 0-60 is brutal on this car and when you consider the weight you really wouldnt want anymore then that when trying to change direction inbetween point and squirt acceleration into a transition with that mass that luckily has 4 tires that can apply torque or slow tire on to make the elephant dance and have the weight keep you planted but also agree to do what its not keen to do, as mass is interested in going where its already going .
I will say , that brakes may get help from regen but any car this porky of a pig that is being coaxed into changing direction has to eat tires . On raod for basic fun probably worse then a lot of stuff but on track if your flogging it and the confidence allows you to approach higher limits the tires are still managing a lot of weight and will leave themselves on the track in the battle to change direction and stay on course in high G situations so it may be cheaper then some trackable cars you will need a budget for sticky tires it will chew like bubble gum .
With SNOW TIRES , it will be 10x more fun then a Ferrari in summer on road . It will probanly be the most fun possible you will EVER get from a family car AND it will NOT EAT TIRES which is the best part of endless drifting you can down in AWD on packed snow and icey or wet winter roads which turn the entire world into endless rally stage and slip angle paradise . Im sure i would run out of range real quick though . Ive burned 600+ miles of gasoline in 160 miles on odometer which i dont know how many real miles becauee the wheels are spinning and the car is sideways 97% of the time . I bet i could easily run the battery out 3 times on a snowday with blizzaks or similar on one of these . Has to be the best EV to own if you live where it snows .

I can attest that he is as genuine as possible. The fun factor is off the charts and he’s extremely happy of what they’ve accomplished and made it a true N car. Thanks for the great comment!
