Geezer Butler invents Black Sabbath, invents metal, spawns hundreds of acts, Sleep high (heh) amongst them. Shit I’m about to pull the trigger on a Ric 4003AC. That single, dual-action truss rod in a Ric I don’t have to wait for via one-off boutique Ric exchange makes it so appealing. They retooled the shop for the new bridge design which debuted on his bass, they did the jazz style 4002 pickup placement, bound neck, S body, it’s great. It’s as overpriced as any other Ric but somehow it just fucking CALLS TO ME man. Then I’ll have to get a Barefaced eight10 😱 And hearing protection. Protect your ears, everyone. Tinnitus is no fucking joke. It can drive you quite literally insane.
so glad this footage of this show exists. I was able to score a ticket to this one and a friend managed to sneak me into the show the night before. The show the night before was $5 and sold out in like 3 minutes. It was Boris, Sunn O))) and Sleep. Sunn O))) hadn't been to town in about a decade so I figured I'd at least go hang out outside of Mohawk while it happened. A buddy of mine was working it and saw me and snuck me in about halfway through Sunn O))). I'd only paid for like an hour of parking downtown because I was like "well, I don't wanna just hang out outside all night" and figured I wouldn't get in. After Sunn O))) finished I was like "oh fuck, my meter is gonna run out and I can't leave and get back in... whatever I'll just take the ticket since I'm getting to see Sleep." After the show I walked to my car and saw the ticket since my meter was up and the way the tags work in town is your print a little sticker and put it on the inside of your car. Well I lucked out because the car right by mine put it ON THE OUTSIDE of their car (and the meters don't have to be paid after midnight so they weren't gonna get a ticket) so I took the tag and mailed it in being like "yo, I paid for the parking on this date" and the ticket went away. I guess the moral of that story is that when things are supposed to happen, they work themselves out.
I agree. I could remember dozens of times similar things happened to me where things happen and work themselves out,but none of them come to me at this moment. I think it's a law of the universe. If it's bound to happen, it just does.
That was his best rig, when Matt pike was asked what was his favorite amp he said it was the matamps but he said he ditched them because they were unreliable and kept blowing tubes every 2 or 3 shows so I believe that was the same reason al stopped using them but it's a shame cause ampeg amps are boring(every one uses them)@@ps.6023

The guys summon a dope and wattage fueled haze, Iommi be praised. Matt’s stage presence is a holy sight to behold and is forever emblazoned in my young mind, they are easily among the best of the best, as a pothead, I cannot thank you enough, video series is what introduced me to Sleep.
Why the fuck does a man who every doom band on the planet would happily give free merch always play without a shirt? “It’s because it’s comfortable for me, and because it saves me a lot of laundry!” he laughs. “If I have a shirt on, it annoys the shit out of me - I can’t play with festival wristbands on either, I can’t fucking handle it, it just messes me up. I’ve always done [played shirtless], so why fuck up a good thing?”
E Wyss it’s a custom one-off for him, the 4004LK’s had intricate carvings in the walnut as well has gold humbuckers. This just has 3 neck position hi gain pickups, as well has odd controls
Never stop watching this. "SLEEP ARE A BAND THAT CHANGES LIVES" Saw that on a five strip playing along to the studio From Beyond. Branded straight to my roots! Saw this on some tabs later. Al pasted me! He's still getting better, and heavier! I should see about going on tour... They're doing this gig in a hole in the ground. Damn.
Lars Moritz it looks like a custom job. The hardware is chrome, so it looks like a Laredo, but without the usual humbuckers the Laredos or Cheyennes have... Cheyennes have gold hardware (I had a Laredo myself HOTTEST humbuckers I've ever played but the neck would NOT settle...stuck with my 4003) The only other 3 pickup either Laredo or Cheyenne I've ever seen is the LK...Lemmy..
Very nice video, thank you very much! Not only the best video of Sleep, it is one of the best live videos in general! Well done! Of course, sometimes Matt is playing horizontal like standing on the wall, but it’s funny…
9:10 that one guy above matt smokes some. then he tries to share it with the dude next to him but he first rejcts.. and then hes like.. fuck it it its sleep give me that fucking joint.
I was that close to Matt at a HOF once, at a small venue in Chicago. All I could hear was his guitar. I had earplugs in, and still had trouble hearing for a couple of days. Not complaining tho!
I don't think they actually played Aquarian at the second show. The first night Antarctican was crossed off the setlist and the second day I'm pretty sure they played that in place of Aquarian. The 3 videos I posted are the entire Sunday show. I didn't film Saturday.
I had no plans of recording this show. I was just right in front of Al against the stage and whipped out my iPhone during the first song. Then I just kept going. Apparently the key to listenable. sounding audio on an iPhone is to be 18" away from the speakers.
if you ever see them live it will make sense. Who ever mixes their live audio deserves millions of dollars because they know exactly what they are doing to make that level of loud sound that good.

Do we have that young man in the front row who yells to them "play slower" to thank for one of the best versions of From Beyond in existence?
Sleep is the incarnation of a giant C chord resonating through the universe
My man, you just hit the nail on the head with that one. That's exactly what they fucking are.
And thats why I love them. They focus on riffs and rhythm, not "let's see how many notes I can hit in 3 seconds"

the man has a larger amp wall and pedal board than most lead guitarists
ok so it is real and im not just high

Yup
Djent annoys me. Especially the name...
Yesssss!!!!
"Play slower" "ok"
LOL
and they do
Still a blistering pace compared to Sunn O)))
Good ol Al.
I was right there front row. in front of Matt pike
Went deaf
@@mrsleep0000 I'm not sure I can even detect a tempo in most Sunn pieces.

seriously what is his amp rig right now? I doubt he plays Green Mataamps anymore

The roadie that comes on stage after the set is Damon Kelly, the son of Scott Kelly from Neurosis.
that is a pretty good factoid - how the hell do you know that?
I bet Matt Pike saves so much money not having to buy t-shirts!

real talk
Does anyone else think that's the best looking bass ever
Tardybros yeah man. It’s super unique how the pickups are spaced too
No, I think it's actually an evolved LK4004 design (Lemmy signature model)

Brilliant, thanks! Love the shock on the beardy guy on the balcony's face when the serious volume kicks in :'-D

Al’s plucking hand at the 15:00 mark. It never became conscious to me that cultivator/improved morris had that much complexity.
Mohawk is my favorite venue around here. It's got great sound.
Could be a little bigger though.
Great video! Thanks from Brazil!
This is the MUSIC OF GIANTS
Underneath one of Al's pickups is inscribed: "Whoso pulleth out This Bass of this stone..."
should be touring with EW and Sabbath now..
love how the drummers kit is so bare bones but so expressive compared to a lot of metal

Which one showed up with a 3 pickup guit first at a rehearsal? Lol, that night the other one went shopping.... be damned if he out pickups me lol

Ok
man my daily routine is watching this vid at least 5 times
It grigory rasputin and charles manson had a baby it would be the bassist for sleep.
Is that Windhand watching from the balcony?

wonderful.

Needs more orange amps
5:44 that drum fill
I thought they brought in a new vocalist at first, that massive beard makes him look like a different person

You know its heavy when the internals of the camera are vibrating so hard its blurry.
