Kevin playing one of the only serious characters as himself is infuriating
I mean, regular Roland was boring as hell, lacking almost any kind of charisma outside of "soldier boy Lilith fucked because hot" He's the least interesting personality out of the original 4, and only Axton bored me more from 2, as he wasn't all that fun or interesting himself and surrounded by these bright, vibrant cast and the greatest villain in gaming history. Something about those soldiers is just boring.

I don’t understand why this couldn’t be animated. The Borderlands visual aesthetic is a big part of what made it so popular.
Because Hollywood producers will never respect Animation, no matter how many times Animated movies blow Live Action movies away at the Box Office.
They could have put a Sin City cell filter over it all. That would have made it look look great.

How do you Cast Kevin Hart as Roland, over Terry Crews.
I suspect a severe lack of money is what inspired that choice. Kevin is probably way cheaper. Because there's no way Jack and Cate were cheap.
Terry is not exactly a person that movie people would hire today. His political views like fairness for all people are literal cancer to Hollywood.

Roland is a super straight laced character, I'm not really sure why they added the dlc Psycho character either, he is funny in game but that's only if you somehow include the inner monologue, this looks like classic "lets just cast famous people" Hollywood move.

Can someone please explain to me why Roland is alive despite Tina wearing her bunny ears which she does after Roland dies and Krieg having the heart tattoo that he gets after Maya dies.
Because nobody on the writing team has ever even seen the damn title screen let alone played the games or paid attention to the story.
They are also searching for vaults, which they only find out they exist all over the universe after Roland’s death. (BL2 after defeating the warrior)
Thank god other people are noticing this stuff and talking about it...I thought I was the only one and it was driving me crazy.

The creators of the movie just googled the characters and took the images from that
Grandma Lilith. Great grandma Tannis that looks like a Star Wars empire agent. A short dude playing Roland who's short enough to fit into the Claptrap unit, and Jack Black who couldn't find the right voice for Claptrap even if a clue landed on him. Tiny Tina grew up and became boring. The only thing that looks the part is the Claptrap unit.

I don’t think the humor style does it for me anymore. Borderlands 1 & 2 were hysterical. Borderlands 3 and the others just felt like they were trying too hard and the jokes had a very “how do you do fellow kids” feel to them. I’m getting that same vibe here. Especially with Claptrap crapping out bullets at the end. Wtf was that?

Didn’t help that Borderlands 3 couldn’t do serious scenes either, like character deaths. They scrapped a whole funeral-like scene for no reason, and had two obnoxious villains that were just twitch streamers in the borderlands-verse who lacked all humor.

I don’t know if I’d go that far. I‘ve been playing Borderlands 2 with friends and the humor just doesn’t do it for me. I think saying it’s “hysterical” is a bit inaccurate, at least in my opinion.

I'm so sad... i really wanted this to be good but the writing was on the wall. Cate Blanchett isn't Lillith, Kevin Hart isn't Roland, Jack Black isn't Claptrap. This just feels like a complete miss.
Well I will give credit to the fact that the falling out with Claptrap's voice actor scratched him off the list of possibilities--but they still could/should have hired someone who sounds closer to the roll.

Honestly even Tiny Tina somehow looks too old. Like Tiny Tina is supposed to be 13 but acts and dresses way younger, yet the actress is 16, and wears so much heavy make-up that she looks closer to late-20s, plus acting more like your typical stroppy teen written by 50 year old men

@@Bieggaoaivi exactly. Even though she's 13, she has deep emotional trauma that causes her to dress and act far more childish. It's not just quirky for the sake of being quirky, it's part of her character back story, and the writers just threw it away.
They really should of had Anthony & Ashley Burch involved with the movie, if they wanted to use Tiny Tina, or understand why everyone loved Borderlands (honestly specifically Borderlands 2. Nobody ever gushes over the villains from BL1, it only really got great once Anthony Birch was hired)

As a Borderlands super fan I’m flabbergasted. None of the characters feel like their video game counterparts.
Just simply get women who look like those women. Nonthing about them being "sexy". Tannis is not that old. Roland is mature and respectable and only performs goofy in tiny Tina dlc because that is a fantasy game as part of the expansion. Nothing to do with "Masuculine" just maturity. Jack black does not capture the complexities of Clap Trap who had two voice actors. The original one was treated like trash by Gearbox. And tiny Tina's wonderlands hired hypocritical women who conduct bi erasure themselves. Also tiny Tina says "babygirl instead of babycakes" so yeah.
This should have been an animated movie. It will never feel like Borderlands without the unique artistic style that Borderlands is known for.
Not necessary...it just needed to be a TV show, but with proper director suited for the job and on very specific streaming platform, that is also fitting for material such as Borderlands, for example the same one, on which Fallout TV show is going to be ran on, or the Last Of Us or the Twisted Metal! It definitely could work as live action tv series and with much much better casting than this...this...this is just plain embarassing!...

11:16 this was probably already commented about but let's not also forget Randy Pitchford putting in a quest in one of the last(?) DLC's for borderlands 2 where Claptrap with a new voice angrily quits and then comes back begging the vault hunters to take him back.
that was in the b2 commander lilith dlc, which was probably mostly made by the new gearbox team that made b3 because that dlc was meant to be used as the bridge between b2+b1.5+tftb ending to b3 prelude (which they've done really poorly since they completely retcon athena+the eridian watcher from that dlc+b3 while also not giving any new story voicelines in that dlc to b2 hunters AT ALL).
that claptrap beggin to lilith to allow him back into crimson raiders is a very insulting joke reference to the rumor that the original claptrap VA (david eddings) which was a very important gearbox employee that was very underpaid and got harassed so much by randy pitchford's pranks quit gearbox due to payment dispute. it shows how much damage randy himself had done to gearbox itself by alienating his employees with his annoying prankish harassment shenanigans.
not to mention how troy baker refuse to become rhys' VA again in b3 because gearbox got problems with VA union.
those rumors combined foreshadow the many factors that made b3 main story have so much plot holes, retcons, missing characters that should have been present, and who knows how much contents that had been cut from b3 development... maybe its mostly because of randy's poor leadership, and also maybe its because gearbox tried to compete their battleborn with blizzardvision's overwatch (battleborn fails hard)...
anyway, you can see how poor leadership alienating the talents in the team can eventually kill off a successful IP and wasted so much potentials...

Yeah, the casting is definitely killing the vibe for me on this one. Especially Lilith. Like, holy crap was she miscast. Cate is way waaay too old for that role. It's not even a "hotness" factor she just clearly looks in her 50's which is 30 years too far.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong here but, kinda concerned we didn't see even a glimpse of her siren powers in this whole trailer. Combine that with Krieg not saying a single word the entire trailer. I'm not even that nitpicky. I liked the Mario movie after all. But, I don't think I can subject myself to this.

Would be cool if they made it live action yet animated... with cell shading ontop of the live action make it similar art style as the game but live action... and with a better casting...

Its true what happened with original Claptrap voice actor be he wasnt in Borderlands 3 already and was replaced by another guy who sounds the same so it was possible to do that with the movie.
