Those of you experiencing the re-pairing issue on this remote. The new firmmawre update 7.2 on the Shield TV has resolved it. Just go to settings -> Security and restrictions -> Switch off Bluetooth LE Privacy -> reboot the Box. You then need to unpair your bluetooth remote and then re-pair and then you will have no issues. Hi Chigz , quick question, I have a problem with the bluetooth version. If my joystick is off, I wont be able to use the voice functionality of the Q5... . Note that I have already switched off BL encryption.
For those of you wanting to purchase the Bluetooth version on Amazon, just search for "Wintesty Q5" and that's it. 10 USD and it comes directly from China. Took all of two weeks from order to delivery to the west coast.
The voice search function stopped working for me, don't understand why as it was working great...tried turning the le privacy setting on and off but that made no difference. I'm still happy with the remote as everything else works flawlessly . If somebody knows how to get voice search working again please let me know. Thanks!

Thanks for the great cord-cutting content. The hardware button is a nice touch, though with the shield all you really have to do is press the mic button and say "Shut Down" and it will go into standby. Nice cheap alternative.... $40 U.S.D. than the Shield remote!!! Thanks again.....

I'm really tempted in getting the nvidia shield for myself. I don't think i need the game controller so i might just get the 2017 16gb variant with the remote and maybe this remote in the video. But i have a logitech keyboard with an onboard track pad that I THINK might work with the shield. Cause it works for everything else i have. Im using my tv right now for terrarium tv on its android interface homescreen but id like to stop putting my tv through that and use a dedicated android box for streaming. *UPDATE* i bought the nvidia shield WITH the game controller. Which I'm happy about. Best $200 I've spent in recent memory! This Nvidia Shield is badass! Powering off the shield IS a tad bit annoying since I'd rather it be off than in sleep mode. I'll need a separate bluetooth remote controller.
This will NOT control the volume of your Surround Sound Receiver like the Nvidia Shield Remote does, so you have to set your Surround Sound Receiver to a preset volume then use the volume on this remote, this is a pain to work with two volume levels due to differences in Surround Sounds ex: Dolby Digital, Dolby DTS, Dolby Atmos ect.
I wish i could use this with my shield. I am using one of the harmony hubs with remote to switch HDMI inputs automatically etc. Since wife still wants to have cable box we have different activities through harmony - but no microphone works with the harmony so I can't really get the best of both worlds as of yet...
Any chance you can do a video on the best possible full keyboard remote control please? Not one of those ridiculously big remotes but something along the lines of the F10 pro or S77 Pro sized remotes please. It's been years since I have seen any good reviews on full keyboard remotes. My MeLE F10 is showing it's age and I need to replace it soon for my Shield TV. I think the S77 Pro is currently the king of the air mice, but I don't know. Thanks

One other thought. Are you sure that the remotes mic is the one picking up your commands? And not one of the Shield controllers or remotes? I heard this from another reviewer that the mic might be completely broken and just picking up commands from a regular Shield controller/remote
Hi, are you able to confirm whether this remote works with the on screen keyboard? A lot of the third party remotes on Android TV (actual ATV like on Shield) don't handle the key mapping correctly and when you select a letter and press the select button it will close the keyboard. Hope you can confirm.
Well, I ended up ordering 3 and love this remote. I do have a question if you have the means to find the answer. I'm using the remote with the dongle on my latest version of the Nvidia Shield. The blue microphone button does not seem to function. Do you know if there is a specail sequence to enable this function? The original Nvidia remote microphone works.
This is a very old video, but I have this remote with my Shield and I'm unable to get it to recognize voice commands. Otherwise it works fine controlling both my Samsung t.v. and the Shield. Every time I try and use the microphone when I'm using the Shield my Samsung opens up a window at the bottom of the screen with a Bing search icon responding to my voice commands. Has anybody else experienced this and been able to find a way around it?

I bought three of these two Bluetooth USB version still waiting on the Bluetooth versions. But the USB one that I received the voice button does not work with the Nvidia Shield everything else does but not to voice button so I don't know if it's defect or if it's just different being in the USB version.

Bummer since the regular Shield remote can turn your TV off and on with the Shield. Though I suppose that would also make it $20 instead of $10 (which I'd gladly pay for that IR capability).

I have the Bluetooth version of bang good, I think there is a big misunderstanding. In the video it looks like the microphone is working. But actually it’s the microphone of the original remote/controller that is nearby. Someone has taken apart this third party remote and there is no microphone in it. I don’t now if it is true, but that explains a lot why voice control works for some people and for some not.

Well quick question I bought the bt Version of the controller and the voice control doesn't work, so I bought the usb one and the on screen keyboard doesn't come up unless I use air mouse and then doesn't register any clicks on the keyboard. Hmm the Bluetooth and the RF units buy links seem to be the same link. So as i understand you have to have the RF (Type 2) if you dont want to have to pair bluetooth (Type 1) every time you power on, but ok if just using sleep and not power off.
Yes, all these third party press for voice remotes are huge fails. None of them work within apps. Something which the TH-camr failed to realise and test. Any shitty $5 remote from China can do what this remote does.
You missed a huge item out. What is the voice search within apps like on the Nvidia shield. I need it to search within TH-cam, Emby and Plex. Does the fact you have to press a button break the functionality? Anyone know the answer to this?
really nice video. thank you. i still dont understand why there is no power button the shield remote.. but you can press the home and back button together. got the 2017 shield and the remote is frustrating. its disconnects itself after a few minutes and has a low range. the xiaomi remote was brilliant.

Morning Chigz this is the remote I contacted you via email a couple of back. I can say that it works as described and has a nice feel to it so would recommend. I got the voice to work on a non Android TV box by installing Google Assistant and TV Launcher just to give it the Android TV Box look. As always great video thanks.

Yes I found the 2.5ghz better, as it stays connected when you restart the system. Where as the bluetooth one need to be re-conencted after every power cycle which can be a pain.

No worries. Would have been just an added bonus, but it's no big deal to power ON/OFF with the TV remote. By the way, I've been using this remote quite a bit in the last several days and I enjoy it SO much more than the game controller. One thing I've noticed, at times there seems to be a "line of sight" issue with responding to clicks. Have you experienced anything like that?

PXT1958 type 1 is Bluetooth I think. The Bluetooth version is only available from the top link in chiggs summary non of the other outlets have the Bluetooth version I've looked because it's only in pre-order every time I've looked so I went with the rf x 2. Let's hope they don't conflict using in different rooms!?!

So I think you can map a button to the Harmony to trigger the MIC, and use a USB mic for the Shield TV.

Pairing the Nvidia Shield with the Q5 Android remote.
It works!!! Thanks to CHigz. I'm able to pair the $10. remote (Blue Tooth version) to my Nvidia Shield. Checking Chigz's TH-cam video on the $10 Voice Remote control for Nvidia Shield, the secret to pairing is to press BOTH the V- and PG- buttons at the same time. A pairing Flashing red light appears.. NEXT..... Using the original Nvidia Shield Remote go to SETTINGS...Remotes& Accessories......ADD Blue Tooth Accessories
NEXT.. press the large CENTRE button on the original remote. The "New" remote's bluetooth name appears..... It's Hotack_RC. Then the long awaited signal.... CONNECTED Appears.

So have u tried this on boxes thst android tv has been flashed to just asking bc I have bought one of these months ago to use on boxes thst I flash nexus atv roms to but ehen u hit voice button it doesn't do anything have tried on tons of rom s and boxes running those roms

@chigz I keep trying to pair a firestick remote with the m8s pro L for my grandma to use and it constantly disconnects. Have you had any Bluetooth issues with that box?
Firestick remote is not compatible with other boxes.
@@ChigzTech you can get it to work but not stay working but thanks. I think I will get the USB version just in case there's an issue with the Miss unless you're used to using the Bluetooth with the M8S

this is an "almost" perfect version....now give me the air mouse bluetooth version.....same layout though.....

Can the power button be programmed to send an IR signal to turn off/on your TV as well (like you can do on the regular Shield remote)?
No as you will not be able to switch it back on with the remote.
Bummer since the regular Shield remote can turn your TV off and on with the Shield. Though I suppose that would also make it $20 instead of $10 (which I'd gladly pay for that IR capability).

I have the Bluetooth version of bang good, I think there is a big misunderstanding. In the video it looks like the microphone is working. But actually it’s the microphone of the original remote/controller that is nearby. Someone has taken apart this third party remote and there is no microphone in it. I don’t now if it is true, but that explains a lot why voice control works for some people and for some not.
Definately very good remotes there. An air mouse would of made it even better though

Hey Chigz love your videos. You're the reason I'm into android boxes and fire sticks. I have been a subscriber for a while, keep up the great work. Well quick question I bought the bt Version of the controller and the voice control doesn't work, so I bought the usb one and the on screen keyboard doesn't come up unless I use air mouse and then doesn't register any clicks on the keyboard. Did have this problem on the bt version any suggestions?Thanks again keep up the great content.
Hmm the Bluetooth and the RF units buy links seem to be the same link.
So as i understand you have to have the RF (Type 2) if you dont want to have to pair bluetooth (Type 1) every time you power on, but ok if just using sleep and not power off.

Yes, all these third party press for voice remotes are huge fails. None of them work within apps. Something which the TH-camr failed to realise and test. Any shitty $5 remote from China can do what this remote does.

You missed a huge item out. What is the voice search within apps like on the Nvidia shield. I need it to search within TH-cam, Emby and Plex. Does the fact you have to press a button break the functionality? Anyone know the answer to this?

really nice video. thank you. i still dont understand why there is no power button the shield remote.. but you can press the home and back button together. got the 2017 shield and the remote is frustrating. its disconnects itself after a few minutes and has a low range. the xiaomi remote was brilliant.

I've looked on their site, and it appears they all come with the USB receiver. Where can I get the one you are showing that doesn't come with USB receiver? Thanks.

Morning Chigz this is the remote I contacted you via email a couple of back. I can say that it works as described and has a nice feel to it so would recommend. I got the voice to work on a non Android TV box by installing Google Assistant and TV Launcher just to give it the Android TV Box look. As always great video thanks.

Yes I found the 2.5ghz better, as it stays connected when you restart the system. Where as the bluetooth one need to be re-conencted after every power cycle which can be a pain.

No these remotes do not support TVs.
No worries. Would have been just an added bonus, but it's no big deal to power ON/OFF with the TV remote. By the way, I've been using this remote quite a bit in the last several days and I enjoy it SO much more than the game controller. One thing I've noticed, at times there seems to be a "line of sight" issue with responding to clicks. Have you experienced anything like that?

IT LOSES ITS CONNECTION, EVERY TIME THE SHIELD TV RESTARTS.
"(pairing issue) seems to be resolved with shield update 7.2. Make sure you disable "Bluetooth LE" under settings>security." Special thanks to dieselstation on the shieldandroidtv subreddit
Probably posted before, but for the Shield press back and exit button at the same time will put shield into hibernation (at least for the 4K version)

I have just received a Tikigogo air mouse backlit MX3 pro with voice microphone 2.4G wireless mini keyboard with IR learning extend remote controller. How do these compare to this? This has the bonus of a keyboard, & play stop buttons, with a learning facility.
Pity it's only pre-order or I'd have gone with the Bluetooth but rf can be ordered today from gearbest if you use the app you get a 50p discount I know it's only 50p but that paid for it to be a priority order so you decide ;)

PXT1958 type 1 is Bluetooth I think. The Bluetooth version is only available from the top link in chiggs summary non of the other outlets have the Bluetooth version I've looked because it's only in pre-order every time I've looked so I went with the rf x 2. Let's hope they don't conflict using in different rooms!?!
