Thank you so much for sharing this. I have a Nutone 3301 and I used a 34 ohm 50 watt resistor in series with power, using the (former) speaker wires to carry the power. It was installed in 2017 and still works - very old Ring. A neighbor wanted to replicate my design and I helped out, but used the Ring Pro Power Kit 3 in place of the resistor and the AC relay chatters like hell. Going to try it with the 25 ohm 50 watt in place of the Power Kit 3 which seems to have a capacitor and resistor.
Hi Denis, it’s been a couple years now since doing this install and cannot remember the vendor I used. Just measure the dimensions of the Nutone cover and space you are covering, then google 5x6 {or whatever is needed} faceplate cover and you will probably see a variety of options and colors/materials you may want to use. Best of luck on your project. All the best ~
Thank you for uploading the video. I have also purchased ring pro 2. I have intercom at home..... there are tons of wires. How do I know what device I need to get or what buy?
Sorry for the delayed reply, you have probably already figured something out by now --- but I would have needed to confirm what intercom you have to advise and even then I couldn't recommend outside of the model Nutone referenced in my video.
@@anthonybrendle1027 Hi Anthony, don't need to be sorry at all. I decided to just remove the whole intercom and use power cable from power outlet . Poke a hole on the wall and get a wire to the ring door bell. It's working now. Thank you!
Hi Casey, I did not get a diagram with the relay so had to figure it out. The two wires that were attached to the original doorbell went on the same side and the top screws. The power and ground went on the same end and lower screws. For my relay that worked out. Hope this helps, good luck with the project. Cheers!
Hi Tom, It’s been a while and I do not recall. Wish I remembered as several people have asked. I just remember Googling the dimension I needed and plate cover, brass cover or something like that.
Hi Anthony….. I saw where someone replied to you that he removed the whole nutone system & just used the power system. I would like to do that as I have a stand alone chime. Any suggestions on how to do that . It’s been frustrating trying different things to hook up a new bell w/ vision. Not sure if you will get this but if you do I would appreciate any help you can extend. Thank you
Hi Stevi, sorry for the delayed reply --- had some minor procedure done and have been rehabbing from it. If he removed the Nutone system then he would not be using the build in Nutone chime. At that point you would either just use smart phone for door bell alerts and follow the Mfg install recommendations for installing a separate door bell if you want that. I my install it allowed me to utilize the Nutone power supply to trickle charge the Ring battery and not have to remove and recharge it. Additionally I wanted to use the chimes built into the Nutone, thus all the crazy work. You can just remove the Nutone speaker and use that space to mount the doorbell bypassing the Nutone all together, you will just need a power source and as mentioned --- install your own chime or just use you smart phone for alerts. Hope that helps, Cheers, Merry, Happy!
Sorry for the delayed reply, had to have some minor surgery done and have been recovering from that. The answer if you have not already done your install is I did it inside at the Nutone panel (closer to the power supply and more room).
Thank you for your question. The short answer is that would have probably worked just fine, but rather than having to periodically recharge the battery on the Ring Doorbell 2 --- I wanted to run power to it. Rather than buy a separate power supply and run wires to it, I took advantage of the existing wire runs going to the speakers and repurposed those to stream power from the existing Nutone power supply. So far the Nutone power supply has kept the Ring Doorbell 2 battery level at 100% --- so no need to remove the battery and recharge. I’m not sure if this would be enough power for non-battery Ring or Nest models, as I’ve seen other videos/comments that the Nutone power supply is not adequate to power those models directly. However for the Ring Doorbell 2 it provides enough to keep the battery charge at 100% now seven months after the installation. Hope that answers your question, let me know otherwise. Cheers!
@@anthonybrendle1027 - hi Anthony, Hope you have recovered well as i see you have been responding. So I am looking at replacing the nutone with Ring 2. I am also inclined to remove the whole system from the house as its too old and dont think anyone is too interested to use the intercom. So once i remove the front door chime plate. can i use the wires to power by Ring 2?

Nicely done. Thanks for sharing a clever means of installing a Ring system on an existing Nutone intercom system.
Thank you Robert, hope your project goes well. Cheers!
Thx you. So, you used the speaker wires (in outside box)...then located them (inside panel)...& could you simplify next steps... please?
Thanks for the info Anthony! Well done. What replacement plate have you used? Can you please send a link?

So, instead of using the wires to the push button, what would happen if I used the two wires to speaker?

Do you have a diagram on how you wired the relay?

Where did you get the replacement plate? I no longer have power to the doorbell so will need to use the battery version

Where did you connect the resistor? Behind the main panel or in the doorbell stuff at the front?

Why can’t yo just use the 2 wires that went to the push button -add the diode to the same...and not use the speaker wires at all?
