Fear not fellow gardeners. Its an issue we've all faced and this one comes down to experience. There's 3 main reasons our plants fail when you bring them outside into the garden and even though this is a Quickie, we'll cover all 3 today!

Thanks Jeff! Did my first little crop of beans this spring ( mostly due to watching your videos) , & learned the hard way not to go too long before transplanting! 2 plants just withered away because I forgot them. 3 still going great. 1 had 4 bean pods, then died- not sure what happened there! 2 more doing ok. Only started 8 as a learning experience. The Everglades Tomatoes are now giant jungle plants, though, giving about 2 dozen little tomato berries every day! ( 4 second generation plants ) Plenty to use, & pop the excess into baggies to freeze till there's too many, then I thaw & juice them. Thanks to your advice, I'm no longer buying any tomatoes, onions, carrots, or spinach! Sweet potato vines provide plenty of spinach substitute, & work great in "florintine" type spaghetti recipes! Thanks so much!
I have a "greenhouse" currently in the kitchen. Rain, more rain, colder nights than other years, it's been a soggy colder spring on the lower mainland. I have staggered starting tomato seeds, the indeterminate tomatoes last.
My " cover crop" this year will be Allysum to keep an entire bed of strawberries hopefully weed free.
I rented for so long, with landlords unwilling to allow even potted plants around, it's a real pleasure to actually grow flowers and veggies again.
Unfortunately I lost a lot of knowledge along the way.
It'll come back to you! Like riding a bike! :-)

First year growing tomatoes indoor during learned VERY QUICKLY the importance of a moisture meter. Overwatered and they started to get root rot. Amazing how little water they need indoors if you put some compost mulch on top of the soil. I water maybe once a week and they stay in the right moisture zone now. Can't wait for spring to get here and get them slowly used to the outdoors though. (Wisconsin tends to have a little bit extra winter time to it)
Its so true...indoors they don't need NEARLY as much water. Its quite amazing.
I'm finding less dieback.....plants in hanging baskets a while, then repot to garden. If they do well in hanging baskets, I leave them there. Strawberry, basil, thyme. Transplanted tomatoes ftom hanging basket to garden. Two days of plant moaning, 'poor me', they perked up. Trees are shade, dome protection for hardening up. I'm learning a lot from you. My pests are called chickens. 😖 ('shoo babies')
So right Joy. If in doubt, wait a couple of days and usually the tougher plants rebound!
We just put our cold hardy crops out this week. Cold, snow and wind have been holding the season back this year! Those cucumbers I transplanted with the Endo Myke Pro I got from the gardeners pantry are flowering like crazy and we've been hand sexing so there are fruits forming now too. I am shocked by how well they are doing. I'm going back to watch the in-depth hardening off video! Cheers Jeff! I gotta find you a Kubota toque!

Wish I knew earlier. I had retransplanted some tiny basil yesterday that were potted a couple of days ago (friends' pot that was overcrowded). They all died in less than a day, in direct sunlight maybe overwatering too. Talk about shock.

Sorry to hear that Karla! Yeah, Basil is tricky when young....older shoots are great and they'll root even in water...but young plants are so fragile.

Morning Jeff phew we got a bit of rain ☔️. Other than corn, tomatoes and squash most stuff is outside. Squash is going out this week hopefully but corn and tomatoes I’ll wait closer to end of May. I’m trying to get this weeks video out but internet is 🤬🤬🤬😂. Have a great weekend 🐝 safe
Transplanting is truly stressful. (Even for the plants, lol! )
I had hoped to transplant my pansies this week, but they are shrimpy, as are many of my seedlings 🌱 😢. All root and no top! I wish I understood why.

I've had to restart seeds. It's still too early for tomatoes to be planted outside; but, the seeds I started about 2 1/2 weeks ago have not come up. So, I'm restarting them. Maybe this time, it will work. If it doesn't, I can always get starter plants at the store; but, I want to try growing my own plants from seeds.
Much cheaper with your own seeds, that's for sure Donna! :-)
For me basil is the hardest plant that I grow to properly transition to outdoors.
100%! Cilantro too. Lush plants that are very easily shocked when moved outside.
I put mine under the picnic table umbrella for a couple days. On the ground so the breeze can't knock them down!

don't transplant into dirt / soil that's different from your seeding soil . store bought sprouts are risky . i use dirt from
the garden i will use to pre plant in containers . i do not buy soil .
My seeding soil is always different. I'd never seed plants in a garden or topsoil.
Disappointing video, told us all most nothing except watch other videos to get what I did not say here, and the answer is stay tuned and watch next weeks show to see if they got ginger out of the tree.
