I was born and raised in VB and I would like to add that you do get used to the jets. They can be annoying when you're on the phone or something, but you adapt to it pretty quickly.
Also, you mentioned ocean lakes being one of the best schools so I just thought I would mention that I went to ocean lakes 😂

While Va Beach doesn't have a downtown nearby Norfolk does. Technically Norfolk is considered the principle city of Hampton Roads even though it has less population. It's kind of an oddity that a city considered a suburb has a greater population then it's principle city.

We live in Virginia Beach to get away from downtown areas. That's kind of the point of coming here. It's fun to visit Norfolk for an afternoon, but I am so grateful to come home to my quiet neighborhood. The city pretty much revolves around the Navy. It's our second largest industry behind tourism, though now in a recessionary economy, I expect it's #1. I lived in Central VA for 7 years, and I found I really missed the jets, so I'm happy to be home again and living close to Oceana. I prefer the beachfront as it was 25 years ago, but I'm still glad to live here. I love the convenience and safety of VB. Generally people who live here tend to stay within 5 miles of home, so the traffic is not a terrible issue. Commuting is where the traffic comes in, so I always recommend people try to find a home within that 5 mile radius of work. I think the agricultural zone that is the bulk of the southern part of the city is our most important resource and the proliferation of farm stands and markets really makes the city a great place to live. We are so much more than the oceanfront area and Town Center.

@@samsansalone well let me explain my thinking. Virginia has 3 major population areas; Northern Virginia, Hampton Roads, and Richmond. NOVA kinda already has teams because most consider themselves part of DC. Hampton Roads has the problem you already said. So that just leaves Richmond, while the smallest of the 3 it is growing rapidly with no sight of stopping, in fact it looks like it might speed up. The infrastructure is still a little bit outdated but they seem to be improving it and with the faster growth rate they will fix it faster than Hampton Roads can. Richmond is also near the center of the state. A state that has a population of 8.6 million people making it the largest state without a major sports team.

Another shooting at the Oceanfront last night. 2100 block of Atlantic Avenue. See story in today’s Virginian Pilot. The value of living in an Oceanfront community is lost when you can’t go to the Oceanfront because it’s not safe.

VB Police Chief briefed City Council yesterday. They have confiscated more then 100 guns at the Oceanfront this summer. This is a result of increased efforts in the wake of the mass shooting noted above.

If you want really good pandesal (Filipino Bread Rolls) the best ones in the world are at Angie's bakery on Holland Road! 100/10 would recommend especially with nutella or butter

@@samsansalone I planned to move by the end of summer/early fall. However our plans have changed and we may be moving within the next few months. We were gonna buy straight out the gate. I think we’re gonna rent for a year to fully take it all in and figure out exactly where we want to be down there.

i agree. there's plenty of good ones, but really depends on which section of virginia beach there living. in my opinion the best area for seniors is in the Ocean Lakes Area By The Red Mill Commons. (Red mill commons is the name of a shopping area within Ocean Lakes, they have farmers markets, walmart, Churches, safe Parks to walk, etc..there only minutes away from the beach, and the homes are safe and beautiful. its my personal diamond in the rough because the Way ocean lakes is built, most of the Stores and parks i mentioned are kinda hidin away from tourists, even tho there only minutes away from there. its one of those " people only go because they were told about it or live there. lol. anyway, i hope the information helps. ,😊 take care and God Bless..

What makes you so fearful? You are more afraid of some foreign invader than you are of a Congress that allows your freedoms to be siphoned away at every turn.

Carib shack owner cheats on his new Hampshire girlfriend after he transplanted her to va. Food is days old. DeGrille Jamaica is an actual Caribbean restaurant that serves fresh-only Caribbean food....you have to have time because your food isn't sitting in a dirty back room like Carib shack
