Heck yeah! I miss sitting down and watching your videos while i play. I just started a new game and I'm 45 minutes in. I'll pick it up tomorrow night for a few hours.
Would love an autonomous combat force. Almost like having a personal AI that will fight the Dark Fog and respond for you to different regions of the galaxy. Our job would be to handle the logistics. Tweaking the AI (Aggressive, Defensive, Passive) would also be a cool addition...can't wait to see how this fleshes out! Since the Dark Fog is a failed AI system. It would make sense if COSMO created a new AI combat system of it's own to deter the threat, or eliminate it.
I was in the camp that didn’t think the game needed combat, I always play Factorio with biters off. However I really like how well implemented the dark fog are, they fit the universe really well and the time pressure doesn’t seem too oppressive. Maybe it’s harder late game with many planets, but I’m finding it really fun so far. I love the way the hives spread visually too.
Was also kind of worried. I'm glad the Dev's are focusing on what they want to add versus only what the community wants (not saying to ignore the community). We wouldn't have DSP at all without them. I'm happy they are continuing to develop it in their own vision of what it could be.
Agreed…space kinda felt … empty … and I know … it’s space. 😂 BUT this just gives another interaction point … especially early on before warp. Hope that makes sense.
Try to play Factorio WITH biters, and with mods adding more turrets / true nukes / incendiary and explosive ammo types. It vastly increases the meaning of everything you build, rather than just having an empty plain with no real purpose behind it.
Some things that I learned poking around at it in a creative world that didn't get mentioned here: You don't have to fill in the holes the Dark Fog leave - You can put a geothermal plant into it for something like 300% power, if i recall correctly. Missile turrets are actually really good, especially if you get the relay station things - The relay stations not only act like power poles, but they also allow missile turrets to increase their targeting range to include their range, in exchange for being high-priority targets for surface attacks, I think. The strategic centers (the things with the construction bots) can also house their own group of ground-based forces to help with defense. You can filter individual inventory slots now! As the Dark Fog level up, they end up being able to drop a large variety of items, which would be a pain *except for the detail that you can control what drops*, though the interface for it is in a weird spot - In the manual targeting/pickup tool mode, if you click the filter-looking icon, going to the Dark Fog tab lets you turn items on and off. Extra bonus points, the strategic centers can also pick up dropped items, and one of the items that the Dark Fog drop is a fuel item that increases your hand-crafting speed.
@@danilooliveira6580 It's mostly things you can get normally, but there are a few items that are drop-only, and I think mostly intermediate products? They do have wood and plant fuel in the list from the very start though, which is kinda interesting.
The fuel is an odd one. As by the time we seriously combat the DF, we should have everything *mostly automated. The viability of handcrafting kinda falls away after leaving the first system. Blueprint wars sets after that haha! I would like to see other possible rewards, like cosmetic items or uniuqe decorations or something that carry over to future games.
Man, when they said drops I was really kinda hoping for some RPG style armor drops. Honestly, they should do that in Factorio since they already have the Quality system. Hey, this biter just dropped a Legendayry pistol! Man, I kinda want to write a mod
In some level of fairness, there is some stuff that you can't get without Dark Fog bits (namely, some 3x buildings and even a better lab), and the armor customize does play with some stats! I imagine that they're going to end up adding more stuff down the line, when they give players better tools for going on the offense - 'cause otherwise, I imagine that high-level hives might be a bit of a pain to destroy, and not just because, afaik, it's kind of a pain to tell your fleet to attack a base with the current control options given.
I hope they add cooler death animations. Like for that orbital station at the start, it would have been super cool if instead of just disappearing it instead like started to fall and burn up in the atmosphere.
I gotta admit, with games like Satisfactory and Factorio being some of my favorites, I never really gave DSP much of my time. This looks a lot more similar to old school Total Annihilation, one of my favorite games of all time, and I'll 100% be playing this! Thanks for covering this, Mr. Nilaus!
Dyson Sphere is actually higher rated on Steam (rank #33) than Satisfactory (rank #61) and Factorio (#88), I don't understand why you're playing those two inferior games, Dyson Sphere is way more fun, otherwise it wouldn't be the 33rd highest ranked game on Steam, and don't believe the people who will respond by saying that this is not true.... because the majority in the world have spoken ... rank #33, vs #61 and #88..... a F.A.C.T.
@@PeteDunes Fact? Fun is a subjective term subjective and not everyone decides their fun based on the ratings other people give a game otherwise we'd all be playing cod, lol and fortnite
@@PeteDunes i hope you realise that no game is inferior to another, its all about who's playing it. there's always someone who will enjoy any given game, so to them, that game might be the best game ever. its not simply about numbers
DSP did extremely well standing on the shoulders of giants. The multiplanetary factorybuilding is amazing and the control of your main character feels great (not so much at first, but later on when you can fly quite nicely, it just feels good).
@@AncientWonder54 Most likely not. The following text is taken directly from steam page for DSP: "Q: Will the game support multiplayer in the future? A: When Dyson Sphere Program was developed initially, the idea of multiplayer was not considered. This game will always focuse on providing more single-player content, and there are no plans to support multiplayer in the future."
@@Flubbred That was a long time ago, and I heard from another channel that did a play through that just ended a few months ago, that multiplayer would eventually be added. The steam page has a lot of outdated information about the game considering what it has now.
this update dlc is huge, the potential this game still has is amazing and to see the devs constantly supporting it is good news for its future. its gotta be the best factory game out there.
Sounds like the Chamber Efficiency or whatever that is called to multiply your energy recharge, as well as proliferating your fuel cells might be important in this update!
18:50 lmao, i completely forgot about flying across the solar system with arms filled with titanium/silicon. Also, dont try to look at your technology tree while flying or youll have a ball of titanium flying with you through space
can't wait to get ahold of your new blueprints. I love these games, but I am dog crap with figuring out these design for efficiency. Would love to see you do new walkthrough series with the everything that has changed. I still refer back the old one each time I start a new game
You would probably call me crazy, but I discovered that by handcrafting all Blue Science technologies, and keeping your base to a minimum, it seems you can get a jump start on The Dark Fog. They haven't attacked me yet on normal settings, and I am 4.5 hours into the run. Gonna build a WALL OF GUNS worthy of The Emperor and get started on my base at this point. Also, I don't know when they added the performance settings slider in the upper left hand corner of the screen, but for those of us on crappy systems, that makes the game playable now :)
hoping the second, space-focused part of this update coming sometime in spring has a way to remotely command fleets, so i can effectively automate the combat against the dark fog also, imagine if there was a system later on that allowed for rearranging planets. you could make a planet that's essentially just a massive weapons platform and just, carry it from system to system to wipe the enemy out

Wow this is very cool Nilaus! Thanks for showing this. I'll probably try this on "normal" difficulty to begin with to see how the game play works with dark fog turned on, at least once. My last play through I really liked how chill the game is, and how very beautiful everything is. I built a couple of really beautiful Dyson Spheres around a couple of "B Type" stars to generate LOTS of Antimatter and that works GREAT!
I'm not sure how I feel about combat in this game, it just feels like it will mostly just slow down expansion, but I guess that is kinda the point, and to be fair, it also give more things to do with all the resources and energy. but I do love what I'm seeing, the combat mechanics are looking really cool, but I think I'll wait a few updates before starting a new game, until then I'll just accumulate more metadata on my peaceful cluster to make sure the early game is not as painfully slow on my darkfog run LOL

Jesus, I didn't even notice the new fuel. It just looks like rocket engines! Something between Graphene and Hydrogen rods was a nice edition. I usually skipped Deuterium due to the 20 stack limit of the liquid.
cant wait to play again, hell I even like the clouds visual, I hope not every solar system has them to promote selecting other systems to take so you can choose to be cautious.
Seems like creating missiles and projectile ammo at scale would consume increasingly larger amounts of raw resources. On lower resource multipliers, Is there danger of running out of resources due to ammo needs?
Ok, this looks a,azing. I love the “feed through” belts. I would love those for a Factorio. I know Wube loves their inserters and it is a signature looks. But man…these are just slick. ❤
i see they still haven't fixed the inventory issue of too much crap to move things around till you get to interstellar transport. I always play with increased item stacks
When I play Factorio I usually have biter expansion turned off. I hope there will be a setting in DSP that if you clear a planet once, the fogs never come back.
DO NOT try to take out their base like he does here. They seem to have updated their range of attack and no matter how far back i get, they will still slam your icarus with their turrets.
i like this game alot, i realy hope they have lots of plans to epxand it more and more with more stuff to build and so on. A cool features would be if we the players can play as Dark Fog and the AI play the other side, just a idear but maybe hard to develop. Cant whait to see what the devs plan next for this game.
Fleet combat in general isn't worth until purple science For ground combat you get an additional fleet and 4 extra slots per fleet which means you have a total of 24 units deployed compared to yellows 8 For space combat you get an additional fleet and 8 extra slots per fleet so thats 32 units deployed compared to yellows 8. Technically there's also two slots for destroyers but you don't get those until green.
I wish they add a civilization system. where there will be civilizations evolving and it depends on your actions if they become allies or enemies when they evolve (to type 1 or beyond). it would work well with this dark fog
Thanks for showing what I have to prepare for. I was actually fearing to attack the ground base on my home planet, but now i know what to expect. Are your blueprints available somehwere? Thank you very much :)
1 I always call them blue turbos, green turbos. Nether of you never have enough of. 2 I have been wondering if they will nerf the ability to carry multi tons of resources on your fingertip across the galaxy. I hope they do not. 3 thoughts on when you land your mecha, if you land too fast, it will create a crater on the planet you landed on? I have kinda felt that landing 2000kms should do some damage, just saying. 4 I been waiting for the antagonist and it looks like the wait might have been worth it. Good video. Thank you.
Honestly, way back when I first heard about enemies going to be added to the game I was saddened. The game didn't need enemies, I thought. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well done the Dark Fog is. FYI The Dark Fog is NOT DLC. You simply update the game and it's there. And yes you can disable them. But they are fun to play with. They are not the easiest but not hard on base difficulty. And this coming from someone who didn't want enemies to begin with. I'm converted.
I'm not in love with the idea of combat, but I'm definitely willing to try it now to love the game already, admitted if I saw the alien attacks before I bought it I prob wouldn't have, as I like to chill build, calculate rather than fight. as long as combat can be disabled I'm cool with them adding it, honestly I might enjoy it if I can customize it, like a world ending wave long periods apart, I just don't want to keep being bothered or ripped out of my efficiency from another attack, I kinda like the idea of them webbing off the planet, so I have to build defences to punch through to get more material, or my home planet is safe from direct attack, but i have to break out and kill bases on other planets that may get attacked so i can send the supplies up to handle that.
The best thing about this is that it's opt-in, as in you don't have to play combat mode, you can keep it peaceful with just the UI, localization and QoL fixes
yes, that is my problem too, establishing on a new planetary base tend to get old after a while, so also needing to kill the dark fog every time you land on a new planet can get old fast (unlike driving over biters with a tank or spider in factorio, that is always satisfying). hopefully in the endgame, when establishing in a new planet starts to get annoying, you will have tools to just clean them without much of a hassle, and only on some fringe unique planets you actually need to work to deal with them. hell... having to use all your endgame resources and power to deal with dark fog ecumenopolis on the edge of the cluster would be fun.
Factorio veteran here, I couldn't get into DSP. I think it's due to the techniques used to slow down the player, economy of scale being the primary technique in DSP. find this dlc compelling because I prefer factory games that push back.
When does threat stop decaying? I am trying for the achievement but when my threat is at 100 (assembling), it periodically drops to 99.8 or so and seems to reset any attack.
Any colorblind options for the fog ships? After landing on the lava planet, you point out the ships coming towards you, and you point at a black area with what I have to assume is red ships I can't see. If there isn't any colorblind option this is going to be a really upsetting "upgrade".
can we talk about the devs of dsp ? its only 5 guys who are doing an absolutely outstanding job. many of the big AAA studios are not able to pull this quality work off. its unbelieveble what those guys are doing. gods at their job
@Nilaus or anyone else who knows. Does he play with a recourse multiplier? or is all this on a 1x recourse. Is that what density referring to in the description. I'm going to start my series back up next year with the new update.
nice video nilaus ... guess we know what you will be doing for the next few weeks XD hahaha but to be serious this will be a whole new way to use power management in new ways especially the artificial suns wich with only a few factory you can run the entire universe with easely but i guess this wil change if the dark fog intercepts the haulers O.o cheers everybody!!!
Not finished the vid yet. Half way. When you ask if turrets to good. I would love if it was more focused on makeing units. It would be fun to watch the battles. Im sure makeing a game is hard and its not an easy idea. Nor do i mean to say there work on this isnt good. I love this update they did a great job. I. And i can be alone in this. I just like units battles haha
I've been following along with your blueprint order and it is working great - but I'm confused about when to use the scale up blueprints versus the smaller versions - I build the scale up (small) BP fine but then the very next BP has a lot more items required and none of the other BPs made a mall to make those items (for example, lvl 3 conveyer belts) - can you advise? Otherwise these are fantastics
Will your Dyson Sphere also be a target? Power seems to be your weak point, so going for a sphere would be a big worry. I assume there will also be an end-game in destroying their orbital platform with a destroyer fleet.
Sorry, my I'm Spanish and my English is not as well as I'd like. Do yo need to start a new game to take the combat system, or it can be added to any old saved game? Thx.
Multiplayer when?!? - love DSP, seriously wish it had multiplayer to play with friends and family in the same galaxy etc. (could be team or against) Also, does DSP have mods yet?
That machine can't be attacked. It's a one of kind device that exists only in the home system and is used to change the difficulty of the Dark Fog aggression.
Is there a mod to remove the necessity of having to manipulate the game space as the robot? Could it just be a top down RTS with POV control by borders, scrolling, and center mouse angle control? Having to move in such a specific manner has kind of been a turn off for me.
The flying around in the interstellar aspect could be kept as is but for planetary operations, it'd be nice to dock the bot and have the ability to freely construct.

The Dyson Man is back!!!
looking forward for the new lets play for dyson sphere
I'm sure they will spend the next few weeks adjusting the game with patches.
Super happy DSP is back on the menu!
it'd be nice if they'd visualize the max range of the enemy's defences.
I love it, but can you send ships out in space without you having your manually take them?
Oh my god, this game looks incredible!
I hate that orange square for every drone and ship. I wish you could turn that off.
I love the return of the jedi reference!
so instead of filling the hole with soil, you should use the geothermal power plant, and it gets 330% output boost
Fleet combat in general isn't worth until purple science
For ground combat you get an additional fleet and 4 extra slots per fleet which means you have a total of 24 units deployed compared to yellows 8
For space combat you get an additional fleet and 8 extra slots per fleet so thats 32 units deployed compared to yellows 8. Technically there's also two slots for destroyers but you don't get those until green.
I want to be a corvette pilot in my next life.
I'm converted.
they really made the first turet a duo turet from mindustry
@Nilaus from where may download your new blueprints?
If I were "Dark Fog" I would attack your energy infrastructure. And besides, the general doesn't fight. He commands.
You need IPBMs - InterPlanetary Ballistic Missiles.
this is what i envisioned Mindustry to do
I'm not in love with the idea of combat, but I'm definitely willing to try it now to love the game already, admitted if I saw the alien attacks before I bought it I prob wouldn't have, as I like to chill build, calculate rather than fight. as long as combat can be disabled I'm cool with them adding it, honestly I might enjoy it if I can customize it, like a world ending wave long periods apart, I just don't want to keep being bothered or ripped out of my efficiency from another attack, I kinda like the idea of them webbing off the planet, so I have to build defences to punch through to get more material, or my home planet is safe from direct attack, but i have to break out and kill bases on other planets that may get attacked so i can send the supplies up to handle that.
To be honest, I don't regret this buy.
I'm worried that this just adds a bunch of delays where you have to turret creep on enemy bases before you can get back to the factory stuff.
Thanks.
Awesome!
Does JD Know about this????
These developers have to be dozing on psilocybin. Is beyond what I could have imagined.
Will your Dyson Sphere also be a target? Power seems to be your weak point, so going for a sphere would be a big worry. I assume there will also be an end-game in destroying their orbital platform with a destroyer fleet.
🔥🔥🔥
I wonder how you are supposed to tackle the max difficulty run...
I wonder if you can hijack their base or research or something from them.
the thumbnail makes me hopeful
Nilaus, all of your subscribers know, that you genius. If not, I said this, now they know. Please, make new starter hub with RoDF addon!
This looks so good.
Sorry, my I'm Spanish and my English is not as well as I'd like.
Do yo need to start a new game to take the combat system, or it can be added to any old saved game?
Thx.
it would be better if they add explosions when the stuffs get destroyed 😁😁😁
Multiplayer when?!? - love DSP, seriously wish it had multiplayer to play with friends and family in the same galaxy etc. (could be team or against)
Also, does DSP have mods yet?
i want to play this game so bad
ermm, so how did you switch to attack mode? haven't played in months - so much has changed!
Nice.
How do you physically shoot the dark fog communicator? I got a jump on it and I just can’t shoot it with my drones or mech…
That machine can't be attacked. It's a one of kind device that exists only in the home system and is used to change the difficulty of the Dark Fog aggression.
where can i find your blueprints
Is there a mod to remove the necessity of having to manipulate the game space as the robot? Could it just be a top down RTS with POV control by borders, scrolling, and center mouse angle control? Having to move in such a specific manner has kind of been a turn off for me.
The flying around in the interstellar aspect could be kept as is but for planetary operations, it'd be nice to dock the bot and have the ability to freely construct.
they should add like a dome defense shield, shields too.. something with shields, not only for attacking no?
just after saying this.. indeed there is planetary defense shield haahha
This is fucking cool!!! Im super pumped when i get home from work!!
Is the Factorio Space Exploration playthrough still on?
