- My white skirt tetra Care info is easy to understand. This is the Omega One brand Flake Food I was talking about. White skirt tetras have really small mouths so flakes are best.
Taking care of aquarium white skirt tetras is pretty easy when you know what to watch for. Is there any advantage to sand over gravel other than it looks nicer? Its better for some species such as axolotls since they tend to ingest gravel and become compacted. Other than that not really. It's so much cleaner. Everything rests on top. With gravel waste gets caught in between the rocks.
Drawback is sand traps and have gases built up, which is not good for tank's, so when water change, I usually shift the sand around to clear those gases. If you have an idea of what fish you wanna keep, research where they come from then try to do what's best for them.
If you intend to have catfish and geo's for example then sand is best once washed out properly. plants prefer sand aswell .

The waste doesnt get stuck in sand like it does in gravel and its better for many bottom dwellers. Its better for plants. Sand tends to suck up while vaccuming the substrate if you are not careful, and pockets of harmful gas can build up in it if you dont stir it up often enough. In my opinion it looks way better aswell.
It only sucks up if you use a small grain (like standard Pool filter sand). ;) And the same with Aenorobic pockets. They are most likely to occur in smaller finer grain sand.
Is it possible to continuously get bad fish from the store? I love Tiger barbs. My water is perfect. Had it running since early November. Got water from someone's established tank for good bacteria. Added driftwood, more good bacteria, salt for freshwater tank, dechlorinator, etc. My balances are spot on. EVERYTHING keeps dying. All in total I've gone through about 30 tiger barbs & one pleco, half purchased & half replacements through store guarantee. They keep telling me it must be stress. I know barbs are schooling fish. Always had 6+. Until this last round. 1 left & my albino pleco. I'm not getting anymore. I'm so frustrated I'm ready to just pack it all up & be done.
Started out with no salt as I didn't know I needed it. Fish died. Added salt according to package, 1 rounded Tblsp per 5 gal. I have 75 gal tank. Fish still died. Yes it’s possible. I’d stop with the salt. It isn’t necessary in a freshwater tank. Maybe if fish are sick I’d consider using it.
What size tank is it? What filter? How do you know water is good? What are the parameters you get when you test it?
White Skirt Tetra Fish Aquarium help. Can you tell us what the readings were? Before you test shake the bottles for a few minutes. They must be mixed well and the 30 seconds they say to shake for isn’t enough for good readings all the time. Also clean out your tubes in the sink first. Then fill halfway with tank water and shake them up. Do the tank water rinse a few times. Chemical residue in the tubes can throw off readings. Ph especially.
I always hear people saying they love being in groups, but then why do they always attack each other, like trying to keep others away from them? They even do this in larger schools in large tanks.
Ugh mine are being so mean to each other! They won’t stop darting after each other and it stresses me out😭

These guys are amazing fish. However I highly recommend a large tank for these fish. For a tetra they get fairly aggressive and require their own territory in the tank or else they will constantly pick on the runt (and I mean actual fighting chasing is one thing but mine tackle each other when I had them in a smaller tank)

Does anyone know why they say to get a bunch of these for schooling purposes when they just seem to want to be alone and boss others around?
They're lovely fish. Once settled, they do so well. I have few which have been in my tank for 3 year.

Palmer Fish Q&A same I have 1 that is more than 3 years I keep with a common pleco with a scroll of 5 other tetras
Palmer Fish Q&A They are with Widow Tetras, Harlequin Rasboras and few Zebra Danios. I also have an Albino Long Fin Bristlenose and about 3 Whip Tail Plecos.
The good thing is they can adjust themselves in wide PH range - mine always being slightly over 7.

I have a 3.25 inch Black Skirt tetra and a one inch White skirt tetra. Both fish are amazing. They are in a standard 30 gallon

I just got one of these and had no idea they were not hardy fish. I hope mine is ok but great video. I plan to get a few more tetras but I wanted a few different fish colorful to add. Can you give me some advice on what to add to this white skirt. Love this one. They told me to start with this one and make sure water is ok. Have had tank cycling for over a month took out well water most of it and added spring water. Treated with prime, stability, salt and quick start. I let her acclimate for about an hour. Just looking for advice to make sure I won’t kill it. Thank you
I've bought a total of 3 of these from PetSmart and only 1 is still alive. However, all 8 of other types of fish are doing amazing from same store. Why's the White Skirt keep dying?

I just do 40% water changes with decholrinator for my 40 gallon with black and white skirt tetras. Btw, the new water is room temperature. They have been doing rlly well for 4 months. Am i doing good?

I hade a hole group of terras and one of terras when we finally put them in, froze and laid on the bottom for about 2 mins and then swam away in the group

I have them with a betta and they are fine. Just make sure they are in a large enough tank.
And make sure that you have a large enough school of white skirts or they will get stressed and may fin nip your Betta

A round belly is a good indication that she is producing eggs. If she doesn't spawn the eggs will be reabsorbed.
I'm planning a new aquarium. I'm contemplating 5-7 white skirts. 5--7 penguin tetra and 5-7 snakeskin Barbs in a 30 gallon. Everything I've read say all water perameters are compatible. I'm just wondering if I'm over stocking the tank
Way too many the tetra are very aggressive towards each other
You want to put 3 separate schools in that tank, when only 1 school is much better. You can certainly add a small school of smaller cories in there though with the other main school of fish though.

HELP! I bought 2 times these white tetras and both have died within minutes or an hour after put in the tank. The only thing I see off is the PH is like 8, but I took my water to PetSmart and they say the ph was low and the water was super soft out of range. The master kit I have for testing the water says 8 on high range PH and 7.8 in the regular PH. I got a scheme ammonia and ph alert and it also shows Ph on 7.8. I have a beta in the tank (small female) she’s fine. But I lost 9 fish already 7 tetras and / guppys even though I aclimate the fish putting them on the water while in their bag. First batch killed I put them in without the water but de second batch of 5 tetras I let them on the tank longer and then I cut the bag and released them and their water to the tank. Still they got into shock and die all of them. Idk what to do!???

I have a Tetra tank. This current 29 gal has been running for 10+ years. I have recently turned it into a planted tank, with some Cholla Cactus, which was boiled and all of that stuff. I have one older Black Skirt and one older White Skirt. Several weeks ago before it became a planted tank I bought two more Black Skirts. Now the White Skirt is aggressive as hell! What is going on?
If you are planning to get some of these guys, I wouldn't buy from PetSmart or Petco, if at all avoidable. Stay away from big-box stores, and try to shop/adopt from local pet stores.

Well, I personally prefer Petsway, but that's a local store. Any place that you can find locally bred (not farmed) pets. =D
There are not too many small family own pets shops in NYC.
That's s dam lie. My fish come straight to the front of tank when I walk in. I put my fingers in and they come right up to my hands. Eat food pellets out of my hands
my fish hide if you come too quick at them after a few seconds they come back out.
my tetras wait for me to feed they look up waiting for food to drop.
Mine come out when I enter my room. They usually know it's feeding time.
