One of my favourite magic moments, I was teaching the rules and the basics of the game to a friend of mine, using decks I had built from packs of Shadows over Innistrad, and I remember reanimating my zombies over and over until my opponent, exasperated, said "Why do your zombies keep coming back from the dead?"
I'll always remember that.

Undead Warchief is my favorite Zombie lord. I know they aren't great by current standards, but I will always love that Undead Warchief gives Unholy Strength to all zombies, while the Daru Warchief gave Holy Strength to all Soldiers. Such fun flavor, even if Goblins kindda wound up with the best toys from that block.

Gravecrawler is my favorite Magic card of all time. Zombies are the BEST! I can't even tell you how many times I lost at FNM trying to get Endless Ranks of the Dead to go off for me. That and trying to cast Army of the Damned. Zombies rule.

There's a black enchantment that makes it so all lands only make black mana, but requires you to sacrifice a creature to keep it in play, with grave crawler and at least one other zombie, you effectively lock out most every non black playing deck, great way to get hated out of your friend group lol

Idk if it was on purpose or not but knowing you I think it was, but towards the end of the video when you talked about "zombie decks may rise again" I thought that was brilliant and hilarious.. cause ya know.. zombies dont stay dead and keep rising again 😂 great video even though its 2 years old at this point but still loved it! @@NizzahonMagic would be fun to see them in archetype videos that have some prehistory. For example some of the first Aggro death shadow actually appeared in the Eldrazi pro tour in the 21-23 point modern decklist. Might not be worth the effort to dig for though.

@@genesis4322 yeah my scarab god deck runs zombie master but not lord of the undead. there are a million 3 mana zombie lords at this point, and in that deck you don't really want to be returning them to your hand, you want them in the yard to reanimate

One note! Black actually has two characteristic races, according to MaRo... Zombies, and Vampires. It's the only color that has formally been assigned two. :)

Daru warchief's artist, Tim Hildebrandt, and zombie warchief, Greg Hildebrandt, are twin brothers, soooo... even if they weren't made by the same artist, it's more than possible that Greg made a zombie version of it's brother's soldier...
Fyi:
Greg made 3 of the warchiefs ( green beast, blue illusion, black zombie) and Tim made 2 of them ( red goblin and white soldier )

Yep, those are a thing, but it is incredibly difficult to talk about Commander in the same manner as I talk about other formats in these videos. The environment is very different, and there isn't like a specific Zombie deck that is the big one in Commander, there are hundreds!
