    The Hoto driver is a quality tool. The way they used magnets for everything is brilliant. It's so smooth in rotation. I was kinda laughing because I have the exact same model same color lying next to me on my knife maintenance tray. The last time I used it was to take the back off a wrist watch. I have given away at least 3 of these, they go on sale on Amazon often and when they do I buy one or two to just give as gifts.

      I'm sad to say I was completely unaware they existed but I wanted to try one and was expecting it to be just ok and nothing else. It looks lovely on my desk it works beautifully and for the price its stunning. That smooth action was the thing that got me smiling, for me that's the the main interaction between human and tool and it feels so nice. I just hope people don't think im shilling this tool I honestly love it and I've used a non affiliate link straight to the manufacturer. I did see it on amazon but I saw it for 10 bucks on Ali Express and got mine from there. So glad I did. Do you ever have to maintain any of the microtech knives? they used to drive me mad with the daft proprietary bits they put in the box. not sure if they still do that or use torx like everyone else now.

      @@TrailTrek I don't have any Microtech knives and so I don't know about the hardware. All the modern knives I have use Torx. I have some old Kershaws I have never worked on and they may have proprietary hardware. Knife manufacturers drive me as well as many others crazy using T6 hardware, they strip easily, the bits wear out quickly they are a mess to contend with.

      I used to have a nice Kershaw it had a blade that held its edge well. i ended up into the ZT and Spyderco stuff. I ended up giving a ton away and only kept a handful I had 2 boxes full it was getting out of hand.

    Wow I never noticed the difference in finish for the tip. You really are a man for details.

      ha ha I had to point it out. I sometimes get people annoyed when I mention tiny things but I want the buyer to know every fine detail of what they are thinking of buying. I think I must have useful eyes, I can spot wildlife miles asway without binoculars when im out in the woods and hills. We both know the slight difference wont effect the tool its still a cool and lovely tool.

    Hoto makes quite a few multi bit drivers now. Some are electric (the big kit has a metal handle, the cheap on uses plastics).

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I didn't know that thank you. I've had a quick look at the electric ones. They look sleek and attractive. If I get some down time I might try to get one.

    They look great, for me here in Aus this and the ifixit kit you reviewed are both just over $30, this looks like it has significantly better build quality, looks like a much better buy

      Have a look on Aliexpress I got mine from China for 10 bucks
      www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002033494045.html
      They also have a store coupon to take more money off. Although I realize location of the buyer changes the price and offers.
      I would rather get this for a third the price of the Ifixit.
      I will be looking at a larger Ifixit pack when I get time which has much better metal drivers with none of the issues I found in the Moray set. So I would get this driver and see what you think of the bigger Ifixit when I've stuck it through the wringer a bit.
      I'm definitely getting more of these HOTO for Christmas gifts this year. Or maybe get some and leave them at family members houses so when they ask me to do small jobs I don't spent 2 hours rooting through their draws and cupboards looking for a half decent driver to do the dam job with. :-)

      @JOZZIE52 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TrailTrek Thats the same link I found for just over $30, we do get ripped off over here. And the coupon only works for $170+
      I think this kit has enough bits, my wife just got glasses last week, and my current precision kit goes to ph00 and glasses are ph000 so want something around the house for when they need tightning.
      Might just have to keep an eye on it, for it to go on a good sale, for $10 I'd grab a few

      Been with me in my pocket, home and work, very nice for the price and im very happy I got myself one. It just goes to show you don't need to go and pray at the church of PB Swiss tools to get something buttery smooth that makes you smile. im very happy with this and will get more for gifts at some point.

    I bought some S2 single sided bits for $13 on Amazon and replaced 2 of the bits I my Hoto with a bigger slotted bit and a Phillips #2 bit. I love it. I got the green/blue one. My EDC is all about the same green/blue color, except for my pen, which is OD Green, so this is perfect. If I can get a green/blue pen, I'll have a matching EDC.

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Very nice. what make wore those bits? I was having a right mess about trying ton get some individual bits from Wiha but I would have to get a bit set in one of those plastic box things or a see through box of like 25 bits which I don't need as I have a few boxes like that of Milwaukee bits. IK wish there was a site you could go to and just pick any size bit from any manufacturer and they throw them all in a bag for you and then I can sort them where I want them and place them in each driver. The green color on the box sort of looks like a mix of green and blue but then having said that my driver looks orange in comparison to the one on the box which is supposed to be red :-) Green would look very smart. I went for the bright color so if its in the bottom of my tool bag I will be able to see it ha ha.

      @TrailTrek Hompower Precision S2 Steel 4mm screwdriver bit set 38pcs
      They are $13.99 right now. They come in small plastic cases and don't have a driver. Most sets have bulky cases and a driver, which I didn't want. They seem to be pretty good bits.

      Excellent! the thing is how on earth had I never seen or heard of them? I feel like I missed out and wasted money on more expensive options :-( How does the outside finish hold up over time? I mean I don't care if it comes off but just wondered if its a thick coating or relatively thin.

    • @patrickcallahan2210
      @patrickcallahan2210 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TrailTrek i heard about it from @lastbesttool (he finds some real gems!) Finish so far has held up well, but I tend to be kind to my tools.
      I did notice that some of the sets weren't quite as smooth in their spining action but by swapping between them I ended up getting 4 sets that spin smoothly. I ended up with 2 black and 2 orange and it makes for a nice color combo with them crossed up.

      Cheers for the channel recommendation it helps us all find good honest channels il take a look. Mine is still going strong I did lose it in the bottom of a bag for a week but found it again i was quite sad i though some idiot had 'borrowed' it which usually happens to me at work :-)

  • @John..18

    Looks great, but in the end, it's down to the quality of the bits, I've bought so many cheap screwdriver sets which went quickly in the bin, because the bits either twisted /rounded / or broke.. It's purely about the quality of the steel, and the hardening and tempering.. Everything else is secondary.. Imho..
    I'm very tempted, but, as they say, if it looks too good to be true, it usually is....
    Great presentation, but lacking some "serious" use content.. (ie, comparing to Wiha, or similar, for tip strength ..)

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh yes you are completely right. I have fallen many times for the deal on the sets and single drivers where the dam head grinds down to nothing after a few months and its a horrible feeling. I get you on the 'looks too good' that's exactly what I was thinking when I ordered one. I was very surprised how good this is though. in regards the long term resilience of the tips. I think for a 4mm head type that tends to matter to me slightly less as I don't use much torque on laptop screws and tiny screws in family members glasses and inside electrical computer boxes at work. But I have used terrible precision drivers even from well known names like Stanley that left me angry at how crappy the metal was over time. Il keep testing this but the issue im getting now is I have so many tools it means the wear they get is less as I have so many to choose from. Check out the viewer comment's above from people who also have one they all seem positive so far. I would expect side by side these tips to fall below a Wiha, PB Swiss, Wera etc in a head to head to destruction. But inspecting them up close they appear very carefully made with none of the silly burs and marks you see on cheap rubbish.

      Great reply,, this may be good for someone who doesn't have anything like this, but I think I'm covered with the Wera and Wiha bit sets, I've already got, which will last me out, (yep I'm an old codger, who recently found your channel,, 🤣)
      All the best,,, John...
      ps,, since I retired, I've built up a superb tool kit, which I could never have, when I was working, because of the thieving scumbags,, 🤯
      ha ha ha,, (or me losing them😢) 👍

      Nothing wrong with being older it means you have way more knowledge.
      Good point about tools i get mine 'borrowed' at work its very annoying! i do like the Were Wiha stuff. Have you tried any of the PB swiss tools stuff its rather a pleasure to use.

    I think I’m very unlucky. Mine (a grey one got for €10 on Amazon) doesn’t have half the free flowing spin (2-3 rotations max), in makes a grinding sound when it does spin, the bits move like hell when inserted and the top bit holder has a massive movement too. 😂😂😂 Still for €10 it works and there are a lot of bits. But I’m not impressed by the quality. I’ll see if I can make a video.

      Dam that's a pain mine is amazing and ive bought 4 so far, I have 2 and the other ive given for presents and they loved them. I wonder if it was a copy? Sometimes even on Amazon its possible to get copies. What is the name of the seller or was the order fulfilled by amazon its self? At least the one you have works but its a shame its not buttery smooth like mine mate.

      @@TrailTrek the seller is Hoto Direct, Shanghai QiWai Technology Co., Ltd., but sent by Amazon. The most annoying is the bits moving about like an old tooth. It could be a copy but it’s all identical to yours down to the stamped bits and yellow colour inside box. I’m not sure it would be worth anyone’s time to make copies of such a cheap product. Maybe I should return it and ask for a replacement. I noticed on Ali express they are about 3 times the price now.
