Thank you so much for this video! My A/C went out- while it's 100* of course- and I tested my thermostat before someone could come out to replace the A/C unit, and this was actually the problem!! You're a lifesaver!

Thanks for this! I changed my thermostat during the winter (it was definitely bad) but when I switched to AC today I got fan but no AC. Following your lead I discovered that the Yellow wire was broken (no doubt the result of my prior installation). I was able to strip the yellow back far enough to get get a good connection, and now I have AC!! Yay!

Thank you so very much. You helped me to avoid calling in a service repair. Check the system as demonstrated and bought a new thermostat. Returned a 3-month old defective one and system back on. Again TH-cam and people like you posting their expertise has saved me.

Mr. Chris Bond-YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!. My a/c just went out here in hot, humid Florida. I thought I was going to die. I did what you said and my a/c came on. Bad T-stat. You are a life saver. Keep up the great work!

Hello there. I just wanted to say thank you. Today is the hottest day of the year here in Michigan. My air conditioner wouldn't come on and I have two dogs... One with dense long fur. I I'm a female and I live alone with my dogs. I live in a condo which is an upper unit. My place got up to 87 degrees today. With $123 to my name, calling an HVAC guy was not an option. I did a search on TH-cam and followed your instruction on how to test my thermostat before tackling a major problem. Thank you so much! It was my thermostat that was faulty. I attached the red to the green to check the blower, then I attached the yellow (in my case blue) to both wires. I looked outside and was happy to see my AC fan turning. My dogs say thank you too. They are no longer panting. I'm on my way to pick up a new thermostat. Thanks for saving me money on a service call. Now I can buy doggie treats. Have a great day,,,!!! I'm subscribed.

Thank you! It is 25 degrees here and our old thermostat stopped working on the 3 floor zone .last night. Installed a new Honeywell programmable thermostat, followed all directions . We have only two wires, yellow and red. System would not turn on.
After many tries to fix it, your video explained how to test the system and using the white connection section on the thermostat with the yellow wire did the trick!!
    This old house.
    Thank you!!!!

Thanks for the help and info! My thermostat went blank, checked the wiring like you demo'd. Nothing was happening, so I figured the thermostat was good. Ended up being a blown fuse 5amp in my garage unit panel. But the testing and troubleshooting with the red+yellow, red+white test to see if I was even getting power to the thermostat. Also had a volt meter, so I was able to see no voltage to the thermostat anyways. But this way is great for folks that dont have or know how to use a volt/multimeter. a few cents for a fuse beats 50$+ for a new thermostat any day of the week! FYI... BE CAREFUL WHEN TRIMMING SHRUBS BY THE OUTDOOR A/C UNIT, you might accidentally cut the wire going from the thermostat to the a/c unit and have to re-splice and re-connect the wires and might end up with a blank thermostat! my story.... Thanks for the troubleshooting video!!!

Thank you. The guy from NVEnergy was out here to do an Energy Audit for us (at least just the rooftop package unit). He sort of forgot to turn the power to the unit back on. Thanks to your video I was able to determine it wasn't the T-Stat. The red wire had 0 volts. So I checked up on the roof and found he left the switch off. Problem solved, we have heat!

    • @gardensofthegods
      @gardensofthegods 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Selvage
Yeah but you know you should report that guy because you don't know how many people he did that too and it could be a little old lady that lives alone that can't climb up on the roof and we're done. Maybe having to pay all that money to someone who's dishonest and it's going to say they had to make a quick repair.

Thanks for the video… Our thermostat stopped showing anything on the screen a few months ago … I noticed it had a battery compartment so I added some. The outside drain was clogged as well because the safe T float switch pipe. Sucked out all the backed up water and then the batteries worked. Fast forward to today … the drain pipe was clogged again but the thermostat was showing a display but it wouldn’t kick on. So I’m wondering if the thermostat is going out

Thanks for the video. My thermostat screen started to mess up a few weeks before it went out then a few days ago the air wouldn't turn on. The guy who came to fix it was full of bs. He did something outside, told me to set it on 75 but somehow the inside went as low as 60 and it kept saying aux heat on which I thought was weird being that the air was on. The new day I didn't touch the thermostat, went out of town and came back to no air and it being 83 degrees. Anyways I figured it was the thermostat because the inside temperature was the only thing on the thermostat when it was set to cool and cool on would keep flashing (if it even showed up). Thank you so much for this video!!

I am having problems with the system not cooling enough. I raised the thermostat setting from 74 to 75, because the a/c will not shut down. It does show a 75 degree on both the setting and temp panels. Could I also have a bad thermostat?

  • @tomeutsler5461

I have to start Propane furnace with the SOP start up procedure , nothing happens.then hours later Furnace is running . When it reaches set Temp cuts off auto just fine . BUT ,when room temp Falls below set temp - Furnace never comes back on ?? So , If I understand this correctly ? Jump Red to White for furnace - if It comes on , then Thermo~ is bad . One thing , I don't think you want to connect Red to Yellow ? as there has to be a delay for the compressor ? Just curious . I'm no expert :-)
Audio is good on this vid as I can hear it just fine compared to other vids . Thanks for sharing ..

You either fried your T'stat or fried the 24volt side your transformer. If you have a transformer that has a reset button on it press the button.Take a digital meter and test the 2 wires coming from the 24volt side of the transformer and see if you're getting 24 volts . If you don't, you need a new transformer. If you do get 24volts , check to see if there is a fuse in line with the hot wire of the transformer on the 24volt side. Might be blown.
