So here's the list. I tried to mix in a couple lesser known series along with the big ones. Let me know what you guys think. (included the regions in the parentheses) 10. Vikings: Valhalla (all) 9. All the Light We Cannot See (all) 8. Versailles (arg, col, spa) 7. The Crown (all) 6. The Terror (us, more) 5. Rise of Empires: Ottoman (all) 4. Marco Polo (all) 3. Black Sails (us) 2. Vikings (almost all) 1. The Last Kingdom (all)
i have watched all except Versailles, The Terror, & Black Sails in australia it was disappointing not having those 3 series in australia so i downloaded versailles watched all 3 seasons the cast the storyline it was absolutely brilliant i will be doing the same with other 2.
Additions: Outlander (Scottish history around the Jacobean Rebellion) All Quiet On The Western Front (Germany in WWI) The Empress (1800s Austria, political intrigue & love) The King (1500's England & Henry V) The Outlaw King (Robert The Bruce of Scotland) The Secret River (Australia 1810s colonialism) The Last Czars (Russia early 1900s)
Absolutely loved The Last Kingdom. The characters were well drawn, the plot was engaging and it was infused with just the right amount of humour. The last episode was gut wrenching but satisfying. Practically perfect.
All 3 Spartacus series and Gods Of The Arena spin off in between Spartacus 1-2 about Gannicus are all unbelievably great i agree.. I always feel like a preacher telling people who haven't seen it, to watch. 😂
@@adi862 Pilot episode, they’re usually done on a small budget. Continue watching, the budget ramps up quickly and the actors find their characters fast. It’s absolutely worth retrying.
People can say what they want about marco polo but the kung fu was NEXT LEVEL. Jia Sidao vs hundred eyes is one of the best fights ive ever seen and its worth a watch just for that alone
“Age of Samurai;Battle for Japan” is an excellent mix of drama and documentary. There’s plenty of action, drama, and wonderful costumes and dialogue, mixed with experts on Oda Nobunaga and the unification of Japan. An absolute must see.
Absolutely, The Crown, as the best of all. Another series I have liked is Rise of Empires: Ottoman. I’ve always said that reality surpasses fiction. I very much liked Marco Polo as something different. I will watch the rest of the mentioned series.
While Vikings is entertaining, calling it “historic” is a stretch in the extreme. It’s fantasy Vikings age and when it occasionally overlaps documented history it seems to be more accidental than not.
Really enjoyed Marco polo ,, watched it 4 times. Black sails is really good. Banshee is a must, as is ozark. ive also enjoyed lost in space , white lines and outer banks.
ozark is trash. S1-S2 great, but after that, just drop the show, character plot lines completly forgotten, stories that went absolutly no where ( teen Wyatt in a relationship with a 70+ year old darlene, just because) its no wonder they were both killed off. The whole Blue lodge arc completly forgotten. Convulated plot lines, a terrible ending, ect. Ozark would not even hold a damn candle to breaking bad or better call saul. Plus arn't we taking about historical shows, neither of these are historical.
@@Artimes. Nice to have different tastes and views. I kept my choices to Netflix,, ive really enjoyed mandolorian , Halo , star wars rebels. Ashoka, Bad batch, ,, and of course serenity
I thought this video must be ancient, because of your inclusion of Marco Polo, which I watched many years ago. I've just done a quick check for Australia and 7/10 are available. Those that are not are Versailles, The Terror, & Black Sails. However, in Australia: Versailles is on Apple TV. The Terror is on Apple TV, Stan, & Fetch. Black Sails is on Apple TV, Stan, & Fetch Versailles & Black Sails are also available to stream free in the OnStream app for Android and Firestick.
i have watched all except Versailles, The Terror, & Black Sails and yes it was disappointing not having those 3 series isn't in australia so i downloaded versailles and watched all 3 seasons the cast the storyline it was absolutely brilliant i will be doing the same with other 2.
I literally just finished The Terror a few minutes ago and really enjoyed it, but I doubt many other women would like it. It's really more of a guy's show. I just happen to be a woman who doesn't care for chick flicks. Okay, I pretty much hate them...but that's just me. I'm funny that way. I much prefer action/adventure films.
I did read the novel the terror that was brilliant thieves of the wood is brilliant also Spartacus the best series ever I think strike back also very good pillars of the earth and the world without end
I have to agree with you on that even though I personally prefer TLK, Vikings production value and cinematography alone are just stunning! It's a much more grittier story as well. I like both series a lot and sometimes I find myself conflicted, but yes, Vikings should be No. 1 😁
All the Light We Cannot See has Germans speaking perfect English. I managed to put up with it for a while, but it got really annoying. Whatever atmosphere it has is pretty much destroyed by that. Loved The Terror and Black Sails (amazing series with a dumb ending).
Genuine question… Did you have a problem with Vikings speaking English or French speaking English? Ancient Romans speaking English? Do you only shows set in foreign countries if they have subtitles?
"Top 10 FICTIONAL HISTORICAL SERIES on Netflix Right Now! 2024" There fixed it for ya ;-) I'd say pretty much all of the series are more fictional than historical. Great fiction, but nonetheless fiction.
3/10 are Viking stories. Really? Is this all that film makers are interested in? Such a narrow topic, so overdone. How about Greco-Roman, Russian, China, India, American, German, or even Egyptian history?

add Shōgun
Please tell me what to do when I have watched all of them! I need a fix.
Ragnar lothbrok & Uhtred both characters are far and away the best. My favorite is Ragnar though.

I've seen most of these and they are indeed exceptional.
Seen all of these, all of them are great. I need more historical series
Same here. Love them all. Including Age of Samurai;Battle for Japan
Vikings and Marco Polo were absolutely amazing!
I wonder why nobody is talking about “Spartacus”. Only those who have seen it knows how bloody good it was.
Probably too far back? Loved that whole series
Spartacus is not netflix season
All 3 Spartacus series and Gods Of The Arena spin off in between Spartacus 1-2 about Gannicus are all unbelievably great i agree.. I always feel like a preacher telling people who haven't seen it, to watch. 😂
Last Kingdom it’s the 2nd best Vikings series after Vikings Of Ragnar.. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Nah the last kingdom is first
Agreed vikings is first
Vikings #1
Vikings valhalla
Age of samurai #2
Barbarians#3
The Terror is outstanding. Jared Harris (Chernobyl) is stupendous in this.
Just downloaded that , will start it off tonight
It was first available on Prime video and it was fantastic
Vikings Valhala .... Amazing one
Thank you for bringing "versailes" to my attention and Marko Polo.
Last kingdom ❤❤❤
The last Kingdom, forever in my heart!
The Last Kingdom is the most overlooked TV show in history. It’s absolutely fantastic and borderline perfect.
Destiny is All
i watched episode 1 and the acting seems kinda amateur… Decided not to watch it

Great recommendation!
Go watch shogun, best samurai tvshow afaik
The otomans and Roman reign of blood are my favorite so far. Very well produce and directed
The Terror... simply on an exercise of survival and the vanity of Man, is a must watch.
Absolutely, The Crown, as the best of all. Another series I have liked is Rise of Empires: Ottoman. I’ve always said that reality surpasses fiction. I very much liked Marco Polo as something different. I will watch the rest of the mentioned series.
Yes the last kingdom is the best
Additions
1. Medicii: Masters of the Florence
2. The Roman Empire
3. The Last Czars
Can you add another Netflix series called Barbarians. Very cool. Romans fighting Germanic tribes.
Outlander!
the last kingdom have my heart
The Last Kingdom 🔥
The story of Germans fought against The Roman Empire "'Barbarians''' historical drama series
Rise of Empires: Ottoman has to be the best narrated series! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Versailles & the crown and vikings are my best
Theeee Last Kingdom ❤

Can't find Versailles on Netflix. Found on Amazon Prime.
What about GAME OF THRONE? it’s best never seen like this
Is not historical
Honestly I feel Vikings should be #1 and the last kingdom #2
I wouldn't argue with that.

last kingdom is 'movie' worthy - extremely well written
I agree wid you Vikings is the best 🔥🔥⚔️
I second that 😁👍
Sir,
How did you miss the Witcher 😅
The terror
Deniz katedrali
Barbarians was also a very good series as well beautiful story as well
I loved the serie The Last Kingdom, although the books are way better, as most of the time is. But the movie was a major disappointment.
The terror not available Netflix
GOT 😢
The Terror was awesome. Really enjoyed it. Couldn’t get into Season Two though. Viking’s is obviously top 👊

Outlander???
Borgia
Ragnar lothbrook is the best character ever created and the job that actor did playing him was insanely intense
Boycott Netflix until restores Palestinian stories
The terror isn't in Netflix

Now watch those about to die
Versailles is not on netflix bro
Not in Your Country Bro
It is not realistic when German and French (etc) people speak English. For me a no go.
Marco Polo 😢what a lost

Calling any of these series history is a bit of a stretch, especially the ones about Vikings and Nazis.
Unfortunately Netflix have ruined most historical series with their woke quotas!
Huh? How does a streaming platform do that? Explain please.
Black Sails is not bad. But making Cpt. Flint a gay is too much, even for today's standards. 🤦♂Poor Stevenson.
