Can Reading with Prism Glasses Fix Your Neck Pain?

  • We know just how much you’ve been reading lately (or, to be more honest, watching videos on your iPad). Either way, your neck is probably feeling the strain, which is why we decided to test out Lazy Readers.
In this episode of Hack or Wack, we try on a pair of prism glasses-basically glasses with little periscopes over the eyes so your head can face forward while your eyes see everything at a 90-degree angle.
So is it a hack? Is it wack? Or, more specifically, will everyone think you look crazy for wearing these things?
Full disclosure: We shot this video before the global pandemic and social distancing put a halt to filming in our studio, but the subject matter seems more relevant now than ever.

I bought the improved version, where it doesnt block anything from your field of view, its amazing! You can text and work on your phone while laying down, you can look at your computer monitor and the keyboard at same time without moving your neck, I have no idea why people think this is for lazy people or why its called lazy glasses, if anything all they've done was make me more productive! They can laugh all they want but who's got the perfect posture at the end of the day? None of them ppl 💀

The only con with it was, the uncomfortable pain from the weight on my nose 😕 any suggestions?

The thing about these glasses (as a person who broke my back ) is that you can read/see use screens when lying down flat ,I had a pair of these in hospital in the early 90's they where very special ,lab crafted ,much prized ,guarded and expensive ,I was thrilled to find them available and affordable now ,if you or yours has back &/or neck pain or anyone who is immobile definitely worth trying ,absolute game changer for me

I bought this exact same product on Amazon. Uncomfortable when sitting up (as you guys observed) but not bad lying on my back, over my reading glasses. The FALSE claim is that it aids reading while lying on your back. The lookdown angle is FALSELY claimed to be 90° but it's actually 60° (I measured by laser). That means you can't lie on your back and read without tilting your head or holding the book in the air. Worse, the vertical field of view is too small to see a whole page of a normal size book! You have to keep tilting your head up and down (an effort when it's laying on a pillow), or move your book up and down to read it. It's OK for watching a stationary TV across the room while on your back, but for reading a book (or worse, a magazine), they are HORRIBLE.

So, this would be fine with contact wearers. And a little more flexibility and/or padding with the frame... voila!
Should market the ergonomic benefits, rather than the more comedic "Lazy"

It needs the eyes from those novelty x-ray glasses to REALLY freak people out

I had cervical surgery and this helps a lot. It’s worth to try it. It may be a bit exhausting after 30 mins, it’s not possible to adjust the angle. Not perfect but it works.

I got them for my wife who often rests her head on her hand to watch TV in bed. This position, over an extended period of time, has left her with pinched nerves in her neck.
When they arrive (soon) she will be able to lay down flat and watch TV without neck strain.
If they help, I may buy myself a pair.
