Dove Men+Care bar soap is my everyday shower soap. I also shaved with it to test their claim and had no problems. While not as thick and cushiony as my shaving creams and artisan shaving soaps, the Dove soap would definitely work in a pinch. As an aside, it is an excellent bath soap and doesn't dry out my skin.
I can see how it would work well as a body soap. Dial and Coast seem to dry my skin out and that doesn’t go well with shaving the face. Thanks for watching Bart!
Interesting video Matthew, lots of folks use hand bar soaps I understand, they can be more on the alkaline side on the PH scale. I use Dove Men + care as my shower soap and it works well IMO. Never used it for shaving but have used CeraVe hand bar soap and it kicks in a nice lather with a 10 second brush load. I prefer shave soaps and creams but CeraVe is top of the line pre-shave soap for myself.
@@lawrence1md Actually, I think they've all retired and/or died. The last one I had retired over ten years ago! lol It is as it is. I've resigned myself. Thanks for responding.
Nice shave Matthew, I have thought about using this soap multiple times. Your review certainly helps. I use an Alum based after shave gel that speeds up the razor burn/ bump based irritation.
The next day I did hit that area with my alum stick but the damage was already done. I know better, silly me. Let me know if you try this soap out. Thanks for watching Oakie!
You can shave with water only if you have the right razor. The gamechanger is fantastic. When I am in a hurry, I often shave with my OGX hair conditioner. It's actually more slick than most shave soaps, and it has great residual slickness. A lot cheaper than shave soaps as well ! However, I usually love taking the extra time and using traditional artisan soaps and scents!
Welcome and thanks for watching Brian! I can see that working well. I know this sounds silly but when the soap is clear I lose track of where I have shaved vs the thick fluffy shave soap lather.
Fantastic shave Mathew Ive often wonder 🤔 if ivory bar would give a good shave? Ive used ivory for years. When my mom was a child she told me she would wash her hair with ivory. I generally use arko or tabac.
I may do a future video with ivory bar soap. As a kid that’s all we used. I enjoy Arko too it’s a little reminiscent of the ivory scent. Thanks for watching Michael!
I'm not sure that Dove still makes that version, as on their website I only saw one with charcoal. I had recently gotten the silly urge to try one of my shavettes, but thankfully I came to my senses and decided to save my blood for better things, lol.
I'm at 1 minute into the video and I'm just going to nerd out and say Dove soap makes for a decent shave soap. I've used the sensitive skin version with good results. (Back to the video.)
Hi Matthew. Nice one. Glad the bar soap did okay. I remembered you have a dovo straight but I did not know you put your own edge on your straights. May I ask what stones do you usually use? By the way I can only do an upward pass on my neck with my straight for some reason. Have a good one.
Sometimes I get irritation in the lowest part of my neck. I would probably do a small upwards pass there. They stones I have are the Shapton 8k, a ILR 15k stone and a 30k diamond. Thanks for watching borbely!
proper shave soap makes a huge difference, regards Mr Straight Razor
Shave soap can make or break a shave. Thanks for watching!
Very interesting video. It caught my attention right away. Thanks Matthew!

Welcome and thanks for watching AppleFan! I like to try things out and see how well they stand up or even work at all.

Thank you!

Matthew, your flattop is looking awesome. I wish I could find a barber who can do a flattop like you do.
I’m sure they are out there, somewhere. Thanks for watching!

Very nice quick shave!😊
Thank you Robert!
Nice shave Matthew. A little hydrocortisone cream helps me when I have some irritation.
Thanks for the tip! I’m not sure why I haven’t tried that. Thanks for watching Matt!
Nice shave Matthew!! Oh boy… I can feel my sensitive skin tingling lol, good one you for being able to use something other than a shave soap.
Should I do one with Ivory bar soap? It’s fun trying things out as long as it goes well. Hehehehe. Thanks for watching Jmac!
@@lawrence1md I mean, at this point you might as well, I agree, fun
To try things if you know there’s a pretty good chance it will all work out.
@@JMac. I don’t think I’ll try whip cream or mayo though. Hehehehehe
@@lawrence1md I’ve done the condiment shaves…. Definitely would not recommend trying that lol.

Back in the days living in Mexico I didn't know anything about shave soaps I used regular soap
It does work. What do you use now? Thanks for watching!
I like the look of the bar, skeptical on the performance. Good luck Chuck! 😊

What is your favorite?
@@lawrence1md Time and Neutral liquis soaps and Helen bar soap. I use shaving soaps, creams and foams mostly.

Im expecting something close to sideways. Funny you say that
No, I'm actually sure it'll at least have decent glide. My wife only uses bar soap
@@Tobins_throwbacks I was pretty safe but wasn’t 💯 sure it would be.
Dove bars are No soap. Its a detergent. I got quite a bubly lather by using Dove beauty bar. But an excellent lather when I used palmolive soap bar.
Thanks for watching! I need to try the palmolive bar soap.
