They go through some of the routines that they do in training, whilst also discussing Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Williams. Yeah, it’s an amazing treat. Ruthlessly honest. But then again, Stephen Hendry truly has nothing to prove! Yet, this is what he chooses to do. I am blown away. Talk about being a man.
It's great to see someone of Stephen's ability still doing hits and decells, and almost going back to the basics. It gives the rest of us mortals hope.

It really would, but I think this attitude he seems to have of always dismissing the idea of getting back to the crucible and just saying, "Ah, it's only for fun." etc is psychologically blocking him from playing his best. He may not be able to get into the final stages of a world championship, but he could cut his way into the quarters maybe. But to do so, especially now he's struggling with age, would require total belief, confidence and serious focus and hard work in his practice and preparation. He just isn't doing that properly and he knows it, because subconsciously he seems scared of putting the full effort in and still not getting far in a major tournament.
He needs to drop that fear and ego about it all and just do it properly and see what happens. So what if he still doesn't get far? At least he'll know he tried properly and if age and stuff is just hampering his game too much then that's not his fault and shouldn't make him feel so bad. I think when he really does get old and literally can't even bend down to play shots or see clearly anymore he might really regret not having tried his hardest while he still could. For all us fans of his, it would only be a bonus and a total thrill to see him get anywhere into the world champs or any other major tournament again.
Really really enjoyed this. I've had snooker coach in the past as a amateur, always heard of Steve Finney so was amazing to hear his wisdom. You always make THE best snooker content. Thankyou ❤
i cant help feeling like he isn't teaching you anything you dont already know and so it comes off like when you miss you didn't quite do as he instructed but when you make a perfect shot he takes credit for the tuition when you probably would have played the perfect shot second time round even had he said nothing. Maybe that says more about me knowing sod all though haha. If the best guys in the world get value from a coach then who are we to say :) great content as always.
the top 100 golfers would have thrashed David Leadbetter on the course, even if he was playing his best. Good coaching has nothing to do with being a good player (well, very little).

Superb stuff. I’d love to see more of these sessions between Stephen and Steve. It’s a great insight into the elite in the game. I really hope Stephen can find the motivation and confidence to really apply himself to practice, to grin it out in the qualifiers and to get back to a level where he can beat anyone on his day.
I don’t play snooker but watching Hendry from 198xxx till now, he is pure legend and absolutely brilliant player.. wish him luck and find fun in his next adventure… we are same age but I play pool game and give second chance now.. it is hard but feel incredibly good… just keep hitting those balls!!!
It's fascinating to see the teacher and the student in action and when you miss you instantly know as with your coach what you did wrong great video Stephen happy new year with new cue.
Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho....great managers/coaches aren't necessarily great players.
I'm no snooker player, I'm a teacher, but even I can see (a) the technical improvement, and (b) how engaged Stephen is in the lesson. For me, (b) means Stephen is likely to achieve something good, and soon. On a teaching note, the eye contact is great from the instructor, always watching carefully to see that the advice is being listened to. He's a very very good coach, he's really on it, has the student's full attention, and knows how to engage him. He picks up on errors immediately, and gives good feedback, even allowing Stephen to work out for himself what went wrong.

Hendry has cued the ball millions of times. He's not going to make any instant adjustment that is going to pay immediate dividends. A change to his cueing action would take at a minimum weeks to incorporate into his game. Immediate results only happen with novices.
Sightright has been working for hendry for years and has done nothing to improve his game. SH isn't winning anything and will probably hang up the cue when his current wild card has expired.

It will never happen, he is sadly too old and way past his prime. Also, he hasn't been the same ever since his cue broke.

I played pool in my early 20s, had a long break and am back playing snooker as a 50 year old and have noticed how much my physical changes have affected my stance, not to mention my deteriorating eyesight. Having access to your channel helps so much.

This is absolutely fascinating. Watching a true great of the game and eternal legend of the sport be so intensely responsive and receptive to a coach like this as if he were a novice, truly sums up the fact that you can never stop learning and improving no matter how experienced you are - quality content.

I'm a romantacist and I wan`t to see Stephen back for the sheer *feels* of it. But, more than anything else, the man deserves it. He's the original godfather of modern snooker, an ice-cold scoring juggernaut - I absolutely believe that's bubbling just under the surface!

Really enjoyed that video, real behind the scenes look at practice to remove the flaws that have crept into your cue action. Next stop, the crucible!
In recent times I've gone back to square one and recreated my stance and walk-in.
It didn't make sense to me to start off standing off to the side as you can't see the line of the shot properly so deliberately started standing in the middle where my centre of vision and the line of the shot match.
I'd heard of the sight right method but wasn't aware that was what I was doing until a fellow pool player from the UK mentioned it.
Thanks @stephenhendryscuetips for a great video, it confirms everything that I've been working on in my game.
It is also extremely difficult to go back and relearn the techniques that you've always done in the past so you have my upmost respect for doing that. 👍

I sincerely hope you do qualify again Stephen... you obviously can... because you have!! The mind.. it's always the mind, get that truly believing and anything is possible especially for someone regarded as one of the best players the game has seen.. You are almost there already.

I've watched almost every CueTips video and I would say this is the best demonstration of how someone, who is so talented and humble, shows how he is working with an amazing teacher to try and get back to something near his best. This young man is beginning to flow 1992 world final. 2 centuries and then you needed one to win 18-14. You always had so much confidence and you were an adrenaline player. The combination was deadly. I don't think a coach can teach that. He can only teach you confidence in your technique.

When you watch interviews with veteran snooker players who aren't as active as they used to be, they all tend to say that they don't practice as often now. They say they used to practice 8 hours a day but now maybe an hour a day and get bored. I think this is what makes the difference in their current form. Surely, a proven champion of the game doesn't need coaching into changing how they play. Either way, I love the videos and love watching Stephen play, as well as chat about the game. Legend! 🙂

Now this is nothing more than my humble opinion but I believe i do make a valid point. I believe the fundamental element to Stephens success and consistently was his commitment to practice! It was his military like dedication to his 7 or 8 hours spent on the practice table that set him apart from the rest! He has often recalled times where he practiced so efficiently that he wouldn't miss a pot for hours at a time!! He knows in himself what he must do to achieve anything remotely close to his past ability!! There's no way round this, no short cuts or quick fixes!!! He openly admits he won't commit any time to practice so nothing will change!! I'd love nothing more than to see him play at the crucible again!! If he was to properly commit to it and practice consistently for 6 months or however long necessary then it would happen!!
Great insight to some of the training, although some of the terminology I didn't understand.
I think it is quite clear to see though, the only person stopping Stephen Hendry from going deep into any tournament, is Stephen Hendry.
It is all a mental block that he has. He is used to winning and can't handle defeat and playing poor. Rather than going in with an open mindset he is always using negative thoughts. It has come out in other videos. He often speaks about being beaten by someone that he could beat in his sleep - back in the day!!
All retrospective when he talks about getting pumped out of tournaments. "When I was a lad...." Adopt a new attitude and he will start to win again very easily. If you can smash it out in practice, then you can smash it out anywhere.
Hopefully he gets back and has a decent run. Would love to see him come out and play freely, show the youngsters of today just what kind of machine he used to be...

He has been talking mainly about technical coaching stuff trying to teach a certain "cue action" and eventually not knowing which cue action to use. Sight right doesn't seem to focus (too much) on the type of cue action you use, just getting you in the line correctly.

Fantastic insight into what Sight Right actually do with players. You hear a lot of the top players bigging them up in interviews, but a really good educational insight into what goes on behind the scenes. 👍

It does all sound a bit del boy. There was this bloke in a shoe shop once that used to watch customers jog towards him and then claim he could tell how they ran and what training shoes they needed 😂😂

I used to play in the same Norfolk snooker league as Stephen Feeney over 20 years ago, he was always very knowledgeable , methodical,and percentage player, but without being disrespectful he was only a average club player at best , interesting video!
If he applied his own coaching techniques to his own play, would he be a much better player ? Just wondering how can a mediocre player teach a former world champion how to play ?!
@quietman18 many coaches in many sports were average at best. But are successful in coaching.

@@ryanyates6761 the safety play is too much for him now and all the players can break build and win frames in one visit. If he misses a chance then the majority of players on the tour are going to punish him. In his day he could afford to give his opponent a chance or 2 and know he is likely going to out score them anyway.
I disagree entirely. When Hendry was younger his safety play was really excellent. If he finds some semblance of his old game he will be more than capable of winning through to the main draw. If he gets his old level back he would actually have more than a fair chance of winning, but I think that will be a bridge too far.
If John Higgins and Williams can get into finals there is no reason a properly prepared Hendry couldn't if he can find his cueball control and striking once again.
@@michaellarkin2044 He's older than them... that already is a hinderance... and the young players now won't fear him, yeah he can score but so can all the other players now. There are far far more good players around now than there were in his day.
His style of player is one visit snooker, after so long out it is so mentally draining to grind out long frames with lots of safety play and rolling up behind balls etc... that's not what he wants to play
That's the thing. When he was young he was not afraid to grind it out if necessary. Can he actually be bothered to put in the hard yards and get his safety game back the way it was at his best? I doubt it. With O'Sullivan the thing that took him up a level was working on safety with Reardon. It takes a lot of work.

A big part of this is the mental game- because if a player isn’t right mentally before or down on the shot then they wont pot the ball or get position no matter how good the technique

I can normally see the line of the shot pretty good while standing up but when I'm down it looks like I'm hitting off to the left. If I straighten up so It looks good while down then I hit the object ball on the right, if I just hit it all off to the left, that tends to get the ball in. On long straight shots it looks so wrong while I'm down but if I trust the decision I made while standing up and push through, even though it looks like I'm going to hit the left of the object ball, they often go in. I just can't seem to find a spot with my head while I'm down that looks straight and actually is straight. So hearing Mr Feeney talk about playing from the passenger seat really resonates with me, it's like every shot I play is all off to one side and I have no idea how to correct this or if it even can be corrected.

Stephen have ever thought about the footwear you are using in practice compared to smart shoes you would wear at a tournament? Could this also affect the body height by an inch or less?
