Check out the Live Paris version to this song. That drum set is still in therapy for what Bill Ward did to it.

Without doubt my favourite live performance of any song , genre , time . Bill ward put his soul into that performance and the drum kit still gets flashbacks to this day ✌️

Drummer Bill Ward is "The Swinging Wizard". There's tons of good songs from Sabbath. Some personal favorites for me are "A National Acrobat", "Supernaut" and "Into the Void"

Since you're new to Black Sabbath here's the real lineup. John "Ozzy" Osborne - Vocals, Tony Iommi - Guitar, John "Geezer' Butler - Bass and Bill Ward - Drums. All other subsequent lineups are pretenders to the crown. This band IS the birth of Heavy Metal, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple helped, but these four men really made it happen. Ozzy sang Geezer did most of the writing and laying down the bass, and Tony and Bill played their asses off, Tony minus a couple of finger tips due to a work accident, before he had a steady night job with the band, and Bill is just a monster in the back. The first four albums are all you really need to know what you need to know. Thanks for the reaction.

Dude, Dio was a beast and a perfect fit with Black Sabbath, I wouldn't necessarily he was a "pretender" with his time in Black Sabbath

What you have just witnessed is the birth of heavy metal. i said in a previous comment it would blow your mind. And think i hit the nail on the head.

Bill Ward was from a jazz drumming background, guitarist Tony Iommi is missing a couple of fingertips and bassist Geezer Butler wrote the lyrics!

Great reaction to a legendary group, and trust me their depth of masterpieces is unrivaled. They will be alongside Led Zeppelin in your bubble. Listen for the change ups, they are a very dynamic artist. So glad to hear you say you're going to dive deep. Please be sure to limit your first reactions to the first 4-5 albums before moving on.

SO totally glad you just listened to the audio and didn't play the video that EVERY other reaction channel always uses, which is a fan made video, nothing to do with the band and only distracts from the song. So yours is such a rare relief from that commonly used TH-cam clip. Black sabbath formed in 1968, their initial inspiration was from realising how many folks would queue up to be scared at a horror movie. The band are really down to earth guys, but adopted all the occult imagery for effect. You might know the lead singer Ozzy Osbourne from the reality show featuring his family. The band formed in Birmingham UK, (also where Robert Plant and John Bonham came from,) John Bonham and Sabbath's drummer Bill Ward knew each other well. 'Geezer' Butler is the bassist and primary lyricist of the band, he has been vegetarian since the age of 8, once he realised what the meat he was given actually was. (I only just found out that fact, and it mirrors exactly my own young childhood. It was in a time when the concept wasn't widely accepted. I didn't know anyone else who thought the same, and being made to eat meat was a constant upsetting battle with my parents every mealtime. I hope Bill's parents were more understanding). The guitarist is Tony Iommi, and, on the very day he was quitting his job at a metal foundry to go full time with the band, he had an industrial accident and cut off the end of two fingers. A friend told him about famous Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt who, in 1928, had also had a tragic accident severely burning two of his fingers, but he had adapted to the loss and relearnt to play without them. Tony made two leather fingercaps to replace his own lost digits, and was determined his injury wouldn't stop his dream either.

I saw Black Sabbath at Newcastle City Hall in England in 1971 when they were just becoming known - they were so loud on stage my ears were still ringing when I got home - incredible band.

  • @jackbackband7733
    @jackbackband7733 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Ozzy Osbourne a genious. Toni Iommi lead guitarist used to work in a metal fabricating factory in Birmingham England and accidently cut the tips of his fingers off which brought to an end his dream of playing guitar in a band but .... he was having none of that.
He fashioned out of metal some finger tips for himself later he woud make them out of leather. That's ditermination for you and thank the lord he was so determined or Black Sabbath just wouldn't have happened or if it had it would be very different.
When we first hear this band as teenagers we were blown away as there was nothing that sounded like this like anything like this at all coming out of anywhere. This was a totally new sound.

The minute I saw this I thought, "That bubble is about to get bigger." 😂 For me, there's John Bonham and Bill Ward; then everyone else. Ok, maybe Neil Peart (RUSH) for the third slot. RUSH will most likely be bubble-expanding as well.
Please check out Santana! Carlos &co. performing "Soul Sacrifice" live at Woodstock. Might have to upgrade to a bigger bubble.

Do yourself a favor and watch the live performance of War Pigs from Paris. (One of the first videos when searching) The drummer is amazing. Because I assume that most people that participate in these polls don´t know the band´s entire catalogue. Don´t get me wrong, I would also put War Pigs at or near the top of Black Sabbath´s catalogue, but truth be told, I have not heard many of their songs either.

@@maxis5650 I’m pretty sure these publications are very familiar with all their music. Music can be subjective and objective but ultimately it’s gonna come down to your personal favorite versus the consensus.

@@Esl1999 Ok, you´re now talking about Top 10, 20, 50 etc. lists, not polls, like Rolling Stone, Rock Hard etc. Agreed, you can assess what the consensus opinion is about a certain band´s output based on those.

I haven't heard this song before. The only thing I know about Black Sabbath is that Ozzy Osborne and Ronnie James Dio where two of their lead singers. I think. Who is lead on this? I think I know.
