      @@handlealreadytaken It is problematic to use lower resolutions than native resolution of your display. A native 1080p display would look much better than your 4k display with 1080p content in it. I think it would be best to buy a secondary monitor like 1440p for gaming purposes

      @@amex4453 My frustration was about 3000 mobile cards. We all know that Nvidia done a good job with desktop versions as they are free to increase chip size and voltage in a desktop case. In laptops it's bit different as Samsungs 8nm process is much inferior to TSMC 7nm node in watt/performance numbers. I think coming radeon mobile graphics cards will be better than RTX 3000 mobile cards. Thats why nvidia so scared of it and they secured orders for tsmc 5nm process 1 year ago.

Most hard core gamers connect to an external monitor at home and its ludicrous that we cant game at more than 60mhz at 4k for mid range games which would be able to produce more than 60mhz at 4k using an external monitor such as mmorpg titles. Taking into consideration that now students are forced to study from home and people have to work from home too, I find it hard to comprehend why Asus did not include a webcam too. Considering that the new razer blade 17 would most probably include a 120mhz 4k screen , hdmi 2.1 and a webcam, i find it hard pressed to pay a premium on top of the razer blade when the only win this laptop has compared to the razer blade 17 is the second display. Most but not all 4K laptops I've had in the past allowed you to easily set your games to 1440p as one of the available resolution options and I usually would settle on 1440p for better performance when gaming, but leave the desktop at 4K for everything else. Does this one make switching to 1440p in games easy without needing to create a custom resolution?
    TBH when people say "1440p on a 1440p display looks better than 1440p on a 4K display", that just hasn't been my experience. I've had both and a 4K display makes even lower resolutions look better because of the reduced screen door effect, while adding no notable blur from what I can see even side by side. Maybe older displays had poor resolution scaling but any recent displays I've used always handle lower resolutions great if not better than one with that as their native resolution. That's not to mention most modern games have resolution scalers built in that let you keep the UI at full 4K while rendering the 3D graphics at a lower res.

    • @TechCritter
      @TechCritter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are correct in this, the game engine can simply render the graphics in 1440p or 1080p then the scaler will intelligently scale to the screen. Heck, if the game engine allows, you can even try to render at 8K then scale down to 4K... well it is something people do on lower res display + high-end system, such as render at 1440p but output to 1080p monitor

    • @Zandercode
      @Zandercode 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TechCritter Yeah, so since 1440p is always still an option, I've never really understood gamers' aversion to 4K screens. You're not FORCED to render games at 4K. I guess the only drawback has traditionally been that most 4K screens were stuck at 60Hz but this one does 120Hz so it seems like the best of both worlds. 4K 120Hz on the desktop, videos, browsing, work, etc. 1440p or even 1080p 120Hz for games.

    I don't get these hardware configs asus is using. If you want a 3080 in the zephyrus duo you can't get the 1440p screen and are forced into getting the 2 x 1TB ssds. If you want the 5980hs in the flow x13 you have to get the 4k screen. If you want the 3080 and a 1440p 165Hz screen you have to get the Zephyrus g15 with the lower tdps and 8gb vram. Then the 300Hz 1080p screens are paired with 3070s and 3060s that can't sustain 300 fps in modern AAA titles while the mobile cpu is probably going to be a bottleneck for older games.

      Personally, I feel like the 4K display is more for stuff other than gaming and it’s meant to be turned down when playing games for the best experience. They call it the creators version on the website because the 4K isn’t necessarily meant for 4K gaming, and they have a 1080p 300hertz model for people who won’t use it for anything other than gaming.

  • @1337Games42
    @1337Games42 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m a first time viewer and I personally think that there was a lack of showing performance of different resolutions, like 1080p or 1440p, which is more realistic on a laptop, badly chosen settings for benchmarks (like Cyberpunk but especially for GTA V, as there is no way in hell that this machine, which has an even higher 3D Mark TimeSpy score than my desktop computer, performs that bad in GTA V at 4k Max. I doubt that that’s all down to the driver). I think there is also a lack of more CPU intensive benchmarks, thermal benchmarks and noise benchmarks. To me, this review seems a bit half-assed. Feels a bit like not much thought has gone into it. Your audio and video quality is good, now bring the same level of quality into the review, don’t try to rush your videos (even though this is a brand new product). Try to go more in dept. I would like to see an improvement with the aforementioned things in future reviews, even if that takes a bit of research on what would be best in those cases, but it would massively benefit your reviews and the amount of versatile and accurate information brought to us viewers.

      In reality this is true as a standard non-MaxQ 3080 is about equal to a desktop 3070 part in performance.
      But for this your paying for portability and size of hardware. 🤷

      It's not surprising actually. GTA V is an old game that relies only on traditional raster graphics rendering whereby Cyberpunk 2077 has DLSS.
      From our 8K gaming test, we know that DLSS is the key to enabling a smooth 8K gaming experience.

    Does this laptop have a display port for VR gaming?

      I don’t know about traditional VR gaming, but I’ve seen a review where they use oculus link on a Quest 2 on last year’s model. It does list an HDMI 2.0b port on the IO list so probably.

      @@zakarymcleod1850 I think the new line of Rog Asus laptops used display port functionality via a USB-C port; while that's cool that may cause issues with an oculus rift S that usually is used with a mini-display port adapter to allow it to work on laptops; yes you are right VR can work on HDMI; albeit with lower refresh rates so the experience will be slightly inferior.
