Pamiętam te szczęśliwe czasy, gdy chcąc dojechać z Chorzowa do Bytomia wsiadało się na przystanku przy rynku w "szóstkę" i po 20 minutach byłeś na miejscu. Teraz to wyprawa na pół dnia przez kilka miast i jeszcze trzeba pamiętać, żeby zabrać ze sobą torbę z jedzeniem i piciem 🤣. Obecnie najkrótsza droga tramwajem do Bytomia prowadzi przez Świętochłowice itd. 😂. Masakra, ale miło się jechało siedząc w domu przed monitorem 👍🏻.
No, this is not light rail. In Poland, we have only one railway system that can be considered light railway, and that is WKD - Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa (Warsaw Commuter Railroad), which uses "light" rail vehicles. The system in GZM (simply in Upper Silesia) is a tram - the speeds are not too high, the vehicle capacity and its configuration are clearly defined for short distances. Although we do have newer vehicles that could technically serve as a type of LRV. The video shows that some fragments are not located on city streets, but within the boundaries of individual cities - this is the specificity of our region. More importantly from a technical point of view, our trams do not use a separate traffic management system, separate tram signals are limited to a few indications, while when there are no slotted signals, trams are obliged to use traffic signals. The track geometry is also tram-like - almost exclusively the tram rail profile is used, and the turnouts and curves have a very small turning radius. I have observed that in many cases, if something is not a typical "train" or a typical "tram", it is almost always defined as a light rail vehicle, which is incorrect.

And it's a rubber band definiton anyways, many tram operators call their classic tram networks "light rail". Light rail was the English translation for the German "Stadtbahn" (which were initially high-floor high-platform systems running in tunnels in the city center and on tram tracks in the suburbs). Similar systems in the North America got called "light rails" (though those usually lack the tunnel parts). When low floor vehicles came up, the term was used for new networks with low floor trams too. The WKD would be called some kind of suburban or metropolitan railway (metropolitan standing for "metropolitan area" of a city, not metro like in Warsaw). In German it would probably be a "Regionalstadtbahn" akin to Karlsruhe or Kassel... In the socialist block light rail systems were called "fast trams". While only two "full systems" were built (Kryvyi Riy (Ukraine) and Wolograd (Russia)), several fast tram sections were built in various cities within the former communist block...

I agree that naming the WKD as a clear example of Light Rail is not precise but in Poland this is the nearest transport system to the LRVs. If we take Light Rail and say that this is a rail-based urban transport network with separation of street traffic and different signalling system we could not take any tram system in Poland as Light Rail. Light Rail term was defined to be substitunion for almost anything which is not heavy rail, and that lead to absurd situations where for example basic metro system is defined as Light Rail.

Niestety wladze Rudy Slaskiej (przynajniej poprzednie) nie sa jakos dobrze nastawione co do tramwaju przez to jest jak jest ,jakos sobie nie wyobrazam likwidacji jej ...ale wszystko mozliwe mimo ze jednak lekie poprawki byly i sa planowane. Np Chebzie -Kaufhaus. Samo Chebzie to nie wiem czy to bylo praktycznie otworzenie 1:1 tego co bylo no i zostaje liczyc ze przy remoncie trasy kolejowej na Chebzie - Pawla usuna waskie gardlo w postaci jednotoru. Tak samo miedzy Szombierki Kosciol a Bytom Zamlyni nic nie slychac o remoncie a tam jednak jedzi wiecej niz jedna linia :/ i ta wieczna jazda na przkrecenie kluczyka w skrzynce...
