Plenty of berries & nectar around for Tūī at the moment. Still keen on our cafe with the swimming pool it appears. Half natural speed for viewing pleasure. #wildlife #tui #birdbath #nature #aotearoa #newzealand
That ones lost his chin wattle, was he molting or old?..I didn't think they lost that in a molt, but maybe I'm wrong..or maybe its a youngster not even 6weeks old and hasnt grown it yet?
He had one still hanging on in this vid bro but this morn both have gone. The whole neck area seems light on feathers. We thought the same, re young or old. Its larger size indicates an older bird. We are unsure of the predicament & will be watching the situation closely. Appreciate your thoughts. 🙏
Yeah keep an eye on him bro, take notes... he could well have Mites, lice, bacteria, and fungal (yeast) infections, if he looses a lot of head feathers at once he cant replace them in a hurry..he may have been fighting another male,as they chase each other fast through the brush of trees and or he may even need a liquid drench too for parasites, & one which you can put in that necter he drinks so often, it wont hurt any other birds that drink from it either.. sometimes their diet can cause issue too if its not just a normal feather molt... as in say a mineral deficiency or over indulgence of something even.. can cause feather damages too, I read online somewhere that people feed birds & even native birds too much bread, this is bad for them, the siblings they feed it to arnt getting the right minerals and thus it makes weak feathers in the next generation, just something to be aware of & keep an eye on, @@ohaeman
